Who Is the Winner of 'The Next Food Network Star'? (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Aug 16th 2010 4:20AM
Who Is the Winner of 'The Next Food Network Star'?'The Next Food Network Star' (Sun., 9PM ET on Food Network) is a fairly self-explanatory show. It's nice when a title pretty much explains it all. The winner of the contest gets to be the next ... star ... on the Food Network. And then they get to have their own series on the cable channel. (Along with such stars as Emeril and Rachael Ray).

Slightly shockingly, the guy (or girl) who wins tonight has to start filming their own cooking show the next day. After that, they only have a week before it airs. Wow! That's some pressure! Nice.

At any rate, this is the season finale. The three final contestants are: Aarti Sequeira, Herb Mesa, and Tom Pizzica. And your winner is ...

[Spoiler alert.]

Six Sitcoms Even a Sitcom Lover Would Hate

by Bob Sassone, posted Apr 26th 2010 4:33PM
Small WonderI have a high tolerance level for sitcoms. Unless a sitcom is painfully bad, I can actually get some enjoyment out of it. So yes, that means that if I were to make a list of the worst sitcoms of all-time, even shows like 'According To Jim,' 'Yes, Dear,' and 'Joey' wouldn't make the list. They just wouldn't. They're not among the best sitcoms ever made, but they also aren't the awful, painful, boy-was-that-a-bad-idea sitcoms we could all name.

Like these six shows. They're not just unfunny, they're not pleasant or interesting or "cute" or any other word we try to use when trying to find something good about a sitcom either. They're just...bad. Not even someone who loves sitcoms could like these shows.

by Chris Jordan, posted Jan 7th 2010 6:12PM
The Scripps vs. Cablevision battle rages on, but at least New York City area viewers will be able to see a battle of another kind this weekend.

The 'Super Chef Battle: An Iron Chef America Event,' which NYC viewers couldn't watch because Food Network and HGTV programs are no longer being carried on Cablevision, will be rebroadcast 8 p.m. Sunday on WPIX-TV, Channel 11, in NYC and WTXX-TV, Channel 20, in Hartford, Conn., both free channels.

Problems with Parks and Recreation?

by Joel Keller, posted Mar 23rd 2009 11:36AM
Parks and Recreation
When I first saw the headline from this Nikki Finke report on NBC's Parks and Recreation, the highly-anticipated collaboration between Amy Poehler and the folks who write and produce The Office, I thought the story might be about set tension or significant rewrites or even those ever-so-useful "notes" from the network.

But it turns out that the article was about notes the network got as part of a "Consumer And Market Intelligence Research Summary." Basically, the pilot went through audience testing, and the test audience saw some problems. In the 12-page report (nine of which are charts and graphs, as Finke takes pains to point out), the test audience liked a lot of the pilot, but thought it dragged in parts, was too similar to The Office in tone, that Poehler's character needed to have "more energy and enthusiasm," and that there are "there are no 'datable' men in the cast."

To that, I say: who gives a flying crap?
