Comedy troupe recreates Studio 60 sketches
by Chris Thilk, posted Nov 15th 2006 6:02PM
One of the constant complaints from both fans and critics of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip is that we never get to see much of the actual sketches that make up the show-within-the-show. I always felt this was kind of a silly complaint since we also never saw much of the actual show-within-the-show on Sports Night but I guess expectations are different for Studio 60. Bob disagrees with me but points out that shows like Entourage, which is about a great actor who we never see actually acting, have the same issue. Well, if you've been wondering about what those sketches mapped out by Matt Albie, Harriet Hayes and others might look like, the Employee of the Month sketch comedy troupe in Los Angeles is trying to provide a theoretical glimpse. They've taken the snippets of "Crazy Christians," "Nancy Grace" and others from the fictional show and expanded them to full length form. Check out "Employee of the Month Celebrates The Comedy of Studio 60" starting Friday the 17th.
If any of our LA readers go see this be sure to send in reports.
Andy Dick does Martha, all hell breaks loose
by Bob Sassone, posted Oct 12th 2006 11:30AM
Oh, I wish I had this on tape.
Andy Dick was the guest on Martha Stewart's show today, and it was...surreal. When she announced that he was on the show, the first thing I thought of was, who booked him? She's actually going to have a conversation with Andy Dick? They're actually going to let him handle sharp knives and glue guns? This was going to be some interesting daytime television.
Again with the Dane Cook: comedian hosts SNL premiere
by Joel Keller, posted Sep 20th 2006 6:04PM
In the press release announcing the cast for the 32nd season of Saturday Night Live (which, of course, by process of elimination, announces who isn't coming back), NBC has also announced that ultra-hot ("hot" as in popular) comedian Dane Cook will host the season premiere. This is the second time that Cook has hosted the show; he hosted last December, making this as quick a turnaround between hosting stints as I can remember. But there's three good reasons why Cook is back so soon: 1) He's even more popular with SNL's current college-student demographic than he was last year, 2) He's starring in a movie with Jessica Simpson called Employee of the Month, and 3) He was in one of the more memorable sketches from last season's forgettable run. If you remember the line "It's like a wookie raping me!", you'll know which sketch I'm talking about.
The season premiere, with musical guest The Killers, will be on September 30.
