Clooney is (probably) on ER tonight

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 12th 2009 10:02AM
George ClooneyIf you've been watching NBC this week, you've probably seen all the promos for tonight's episode of ER. The episode is called "Old Times" and will feature former stars Juliana Margulies and Eriq LaSalle (joining Noah Wyle, who has been back for a couple of weeks). But one star who is supposed to be on the show before it ends in early April, George Clooney, isn't in the promos for tonight's episode. Does that mean he's not on until a later episode?

Probably not. Producer John Wells is telling fans to make sure they watch tonight's episode, and Margulies has already said that she has filmed scenes with Clooney, so it's a good bet that he's on tonight's episode. Also, if you notice that at the very end of the promo, the screen suddenly goes black when Margulies says hello to someone she sees. Above is a pic of Clooney on the set when he filmed his scenes in January.

What to Watch Thursday, March 12

ER'ER'
(10PM, NBC)
Is he or isn't he? That's the not-so-secret secret, as original series star George Clooney is rumored to make a cameo appearance.

What's confirmed: Clooney's fellow former co-stars, Eriq La Salle and Julianna Margulies return just weeks before the April 2 series finale, as La Salle's Peter pops in to visit Noah Wyle's ailing Carter. Margulies is back as Carol Hathaway, and the actress says she only agreed to visit when Clooney agreed to return as Hathaway's love Dr. Doug Ross.

As for what the on-screen lovers might be up to now, it's all very hush-hush, but producer John Wells has hinted that Hathaway-Ross fans will be happy with the storyline.

New TV on DVD releases this week

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 2nd 2009 6:03PM
My Two DadsHere are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

I should be happy when there are a ton of new DVDs but nothing I want to buy, because I'll save some money. But this has been happening a lot lately. I mean, there must be something being released soon that I must own. I might have to get the Return of the Man From U.N.C.L.E. movie if it wasn't included in the complete series set I have.

Kinda amazed that My Two Dads has been released on DVD, though I shouldn't be because it seems like a lot of shows are making their way to DVD now. It makes me hopeful that other sitcoms from that era will be released too.

  • 7th Heaven - Season 8
  • Chowder - Vol. 2
  • Doctor Who - The Androids of Tara, Key To Time, The Armageddon Factor, The Power of Kroll, The Pirate Planet, The Stones of Blood, and The Ribos Operation (all Special Editions)

Gilmore Girl set for ER finale

by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 1st 2009 9:00PM
ABI've been pretty hard on NBC of late, like calling for Jeff Zucker's head when NBC announced it will present Jay Leno every weeknight in prime time next fall, but I think I'm going to have to tip my cap to the network for how ER is coming to an end.

Not only have the producers lured George Clooney and Juliana Margulies back for a last go-round, they've also cast Oscar-winner Susan Sarandon for a guest turn. George, Julianna and Susan will all appear on ER on March 12.

I'm curious to see their appearances, but here's the casting that will have me definitely tuning in: Alexis Bledel is booked for ER two-hour finale on April 2.

Is ER going to kill off John Carter too?

by Bob Sassone, posted Feb 20th 2009 11:33AM
Noah WyleOh, ER. Not again, not again.

If you watched last night's episode of ER, you saw the return of Dr. John Carter. His wife is visiting family in Paris, and he's back in Chicago to...well, we don't exactly know why he's back yet, but he's actually going to be working part-time at County General again. That's the only good news about what happened last night (I thought this was just going to be a quick visit by Wyle for a few episodes, I didn't realize he'd be working at the hospital again) because the ending probably made longtime ER fans sigh and/or grit their teeth.

The last scene showed Carter hooked up to...well, I'm not a doctor, but I'm assuming it's a dialysis machine or some sort of cancer treatment? He had a haunted look on his face, and he had a rather somber attitude throughout the entire episode. Scenes from episodes coming up showed Carter saying that he came back to Chicago specifically to talk to Dr. Banfield (?) and we also saw a scene of Carter dropping to the floor in the emergency room looking really, really bad.

Are they going to kill off Carter a la Mark Greene?

Mrs. Garrett is all over TV again ... and you probably don't know it

by Joel Keller, posted Feb 19th 2009 9:03AM
Charlotte RaeIf you're a fan of '70s and '80s TV, you've probably been having a bunch of a "wha the?" moments over the last year or so. When this particular little white-haired older lady shows up on a show, she doesn't look familiar, but then you hear the matronly but deep voice, and you realize who you've just seen on your screen.

It's Mrs. Garrett! Only by the time you realize it, she's gone, leaving you to wonder if you were imagining things.

Don't worry; you're not going insane. We've been seeing a lot of Charlotte Rae, who played Edna Garrett on Diff'rent Strokes and The Facts of Life, on TV lately, mostly playing tiny roles that involve maybe a few lines at the most. In fact, just last night, she played a suspect's mother on an episode of Life.

What to Watch Thursday, Feb. 19

Jamie Pressly'My Name Is Earl'
(8PM, NBC)
It's been fun and all – seeing Joy trying to fit in with her 'Knots Landing'-ish cul-de-sac neighbors was a hoot – but tonight's 'Earl' may finally bring an end to Joy and Darnell, aka Crab Man's, Witness Protection Program jaunt, and it's all because of a visit from Darnell's long-lost papa.

Danny Glover plays the senior Crab Man, who pops up in Camden to make amends with his boy. But Earl and Randy (well, Earl, anyway) suspect he has other motives, and when they set off to find and warn Darnell, it leads to a father/son undercover mission and, hopefully, a return to the trailer park for Joy and her fam.

Best '90s TV Shows

by Kim Potts, posted Feb 9th 2009 1:00PM
We know, we know ... another "best of" list.

But this isn't any old list – our Top 40 TV Shows of the '90s is just the first in a new series of countdowns in which we'll put our AOL Television seal of approval on the top 40 series of every decade.

Every other month we'll tackle another decade, going all the way back to the '50s, to recall the best comedies (hello 'Lucy'), the best prime-time soaps (do you remember who shot JR?), the best cop shows, animated series and groundbreaking TV shows.

So kick off 50 years of silver-screen bests with the greatest shows of the '90s, including everyone from 'Beavis,' 'Buffy' and 'Simpsons' to 'Freaks and Geeks' and teens on the 'Creek.'

Her career may be thriving, but so far, love has eluded Liz Lemon. Luckily for her, she's getting three episodes to close the deal with her new neighbor – the handsome and newly single Dr. Drew Baird, played by 'Mad Men' star Jon Hamm.

The hapless-in-love is gonna need all three episodes, too, as, like usual, she doesn't exactly make a great first impression on the good doctor.

Meanwhile, Jack's got his own romantic woes, as he tries to convince Elisa's (Salma Hayek) grandmother that he's a good catch. Too bad granny can't stop thinking about how much the GE honcho reminds her of the villain on her favorite Spanish soap opera.
