Where Does Ines Sainz Fit On the Sports Reporter Spectrum?
by Joel Keller, posted Sep 14th 2010 4:30PM
The dust-up between TV Azteca reporter Ines Sainz and the New York Jets, where Sainz claimed there were some joking around and inappropriate remarks directed at her, yet again brings up the subject of what exactly the job of a TV sports reporter should entail.Sports isn't news. In fact, sports has often been referred to as the "toy department" of various news organizations because of its relative uimportance compared to wars, famines, and natural disasters.
So there's always been a debate on whether those reporting it on television, especially the women who are doing it for a living, should act as serious, professional journalists or if they can play up the entertainment factors of their jobs. That may mean they can emphasize on their looks or have a shtick or do something that would make a big-time news correspondent like Lara Logan or Chuck Todd look foolish.
Where does Sainz fit on this spectrum? After the jump, I'll break down the different types of TV sports reporters into categories, and we'll try to figure out where she stands. We'll keep this list to sideline reporters and correspondents who interact with teams on a regular basis.
'College GameDay,' 'Good Morning America' Book Erin Andrews
by Sharon Knolle, posted Jul 12th 2010 2:20PM
"America's Sexiest Sportscaster" Erin Andrews is waltzing into two new gigs: The sports reporter, who finished in third place on the last season of 'Dancing With the Stars,' will host ESPN's 'College GameDay' and also make regular appearances on ABC's 'Good Morning America.'We'll see both Andrews' "lighthearted" and serious sides on GMA, she promises USA Today. "Some [segments] will be fun and lighthearted," she says. "I don't take myself too seriously and like to have a good time."
But the host -- who was famously targeted by a stalker who videotaped her in the nude without her knowledge -- also plans to strike a serious note in focusing on crimes against women. "With what I've been through, I want to talk to women who are victims. ... And people haven't seen I can have a serious tone. We feel it's important to start off with serious issues so people take me seriously."
She had her share of offers after 'Dancing', she she told USA Today in her first interview about her new contract, but opted to stay on at ESPN. "The biggest reason I wanted to stay was because they'd expand my role," said Andrews. "It's time for me to try new things. ... The hosting stuff is what I'm really looking forward to."

by Michael Pascua, posted May 26th 2010 2:00AM
(S10E19) The finale of 'Dancing with the Stars' had the smart notion of mixing in new routines with unnecessary fluff instead of just silly group dances or musical guests. We get to see the return of Buzz Aldrin and Kate Gosselin even though both don't get close to the final three contestants.Finale starts off with a big group opening. I found it funny that Buzz and Kate stood with each other and didn't move much. It's like the Miss Universe pageant where the bad dancers are stuck in the back.
Niecy has a minor solo while all the pros have intense spins on the main stage. Kate is the most awkward during the soul train section. She couldn't even get walking and holding a fan right. Five bucks says she never practiced. Chad had a football related injury, but it seems like because of time constraints, we never get to talk to him again.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck issued a public apology to 'Dancing With the Stars' contestant and ESPN reporter Erin Andrews on 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC) after the comments she made about Andrews' costumes. Yesterday, Hasselbeck said Andrews was dressing too provocatively, especially since she was recently the victim of a peeping tom. However, she said she came to realize her words hurt Andrews' feelings. Hasselbeck said her daughter, Grace, asked her why she looked so sad, prompting her to rehash to story for the 5-year-old. Then Grace said, "Mommy, why don't you just call Erin and tell her you're sorry!?" And that's just what Hasselbeck did.
