Jeff Zucker Signs New Three-Year Contract

The man who brought us the 'The Jay Leno Show,' led NBC into last place, but built a powerful cable empire in the process, has been given a new three-year deal.

Indeed, Jeff Zucker has just been re-upped and will remain as CEO of freshly purchased NBC Universal, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

TNT's giving us more Leverage

While this off-network summer season has reached a fevered pitch after last with the return of Mad Men, not to be overlooked is that other cable shows have also been delivering the goods. Shows like Burn Notice and Leverage, for instance. Regarding Leverage, there's good news to report. TNT will air two extra Leverage episodes in the weeks ahead.

Lauer extends Today contract

matt lauerThere's been a whole lotta talkin' about Katie Couric leaving Today, and Meredith Viera replacing her. While all that was going on, however, Matt Lauer quietly extended his contract with the program through 2011. Originally, he was to leave the show in 2008 (he replaced Bryant Gumbel in 1997). Lauer revealed the contract extension in an interview with the New York Times, and his statement was later confirmed by NBC.  

Despite being an early riser, I don't watch Today very often, but Lauer always seemed like the sort of guy anyone could get along with. Well, maybe not Tom Cruise. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how he and Viera work together.
