by Chris Harnick, posted Nov 16th 2011 4:15PM
While 'Pan Am' is giving audiences a dramatization of life at a prominent airline of the past, TLC is about to tackle the present with a reality series about Southwest Airlines. In the new series, which doesn't have a premiere date or title, viewers will get a behind the scenes look at one of the biggest airlines in America. The show will also feature personal customer stories.
"Air travel has become incredibly accessible, and as a result, millions of travelers navigate the challenges of the airport, especially during the upcoming holiday season," Amy Winter, GM of TLC. "Southwest is a beloved brand, and their customers and employees will reveal the passion, commitment, and fantastic payoff of 'getting there' that helps keep us all flying."
EXCLUSIVE: 'Extreme Couponing' Season 2 Sneak Peek
by Jean Bentley, posted Sep 27th 2011 1:15PM
TLC's latest reality hit, 'Extreme Couponing,' returns Wed., Sept. 28 at 10 PM ET for its second season. Judging from AOL TV's exclusive sneak peek at the episode, the conscientious couponers profiled this time around will be even more extreme than those featured in Season 1.April, a stay-at-home mom of seven teenagers, stores her goodies in her basement, which she refers to as "the bunker." Though her 500 jars of pasta sauce and 300 bottles of barbecue sauce are out in the open, the junk food is stacked in a locked room she calls "the cookie jar."
Lest you think April's shopping habits parallell that of a hoarder's, she outlines the difference between her organized stockpile and a hoarder's -- a layer of dust. "Dust is the dividing factor," she says.

'Bachelorette' Ashley Hebert's Sister Chrystie Says She Was Wrong About J.P.
by Catherine Lawson, posted Aug 4th 2011 8:00AM
One of the more memorable parts of this week's 'Bachelorette' season finale was when prospective husband J.P. Rosenbaum faced a tough grilling from Ashley Hebert's family.Especially big sister Chrystie Corns, who even made Ashley cry with her assessment that J.P. is, well, a bit boring and definitely not a good match for her.
Now, in an extraordinary about-face -- brought on by a really awkward family reunion, perhaps? -- 'Extreme Couponing' alum Chrystie says she's had a change of heart.
She's even gone so far as to label J.P. her sister's "knight in shining armor."

Exclusive 'Extreme Couponing' Preview: Coupons and Kids Don't Mix (VIDEO)
by Maggie Furlong, posted May 11th 2011 4:15PM
'Extreme Couponing' has an extreme message for you aspiring savers out there: coupons and kids don't mix.In this exclusive clip of tonight's episode (Wed., May 11, 9PM ET on TLC), mother of four Amber is stressed when the babysitter cancels, forcing her to take the children along for her big grocery store run.
Yes, we all realize that kids love to grab sugary cereals and treats -- things that may not be discounted -- but they also appear to slow down the entire process of shopping and saving in bulk, even when they get their own baskets.
Take a look and tell us: Do you have time to make grocery shopping a babysitter-worthy event? Is it worth the savings to have to schedule a run to the store?
What 'Extreme Couponing' Is Really About: Jerks and Organized Hoarders
by Joel Keller, posted Apr 13th 2011 4:32PM
If something about TLC's new reality series 'Extreme Couponing' makes you uneasy and fascinated at the same time, join the club.As I watched last week's premiere -- as well as the special that aired a few months ago -- the feelings that I got weren't "Yay, bargain hunters!" or "Wow, if you really put your mind to it, you can live pretty well in this crummy economy!" No, it was just that turbulent combination of emotions that makes you ashamed you're watching this spectacle unfold on your flat screen but unable to turn the channel.
That's when I realized that 'Extreme Couponing' really isn't about frugal Americans at all. In fact, the feeling I got when watching the show was pretty similar to the feeling I get when I come across two other shows on the cable dial: A&E's 'Hoarders' and TLC's 'Hoarding: Buried Alive.'
TLC's 'Extreme Couponing' Stars: Paying Full Price For Anything is 'Completely Ridiculous'
by Maggie Furlong, posted Apr 6th 2011 6:00AM
I love a good deal as much as the next person ... just not if it requires any sort of legwork. Yes, I'll admit it: I'm a retail snob.In fact, a few months ago when I saw my best friend pull a small coupon binder out of her purse, I laughed. At her! For wanting to save money while shopping for her family of four!
I'm taking it all back now, because TLC's 'Extreme Couponing' (premieres Wed., April 6, 9PM ET) has made me see the blue light special. Sure the previews show a woman talking about spending time equivalent to a full-time job clipping coupons each week -- hence the "extreme" -- but the louder message is that every little bit makes a difference.
What's that saying? A penny saved is a penny earned? Even Benjamin Franklin realized there's nothing wrong with stashing your cash away for a rainy day. So why is there such a stingy stigma attached to using coupons?
I caught up with two of the show's couponers, Nathan Engels and Jessica Hacker, to hear a little bit more about how and why they started couponing, and they shared a few tips and crazy coupon success stories with me.
Top 10 Thriftiest TV Families
by Kim Potts, posted Apr 3rd 2011 12:01AM
Sure, TV land has always been filled with characters who live in impossibly large New York City apartments ('Friends' gang, we're looking at you!). But there are also TV types who represent their more modest salaries in a realistic way.

For example, no one could turn a lump of cheap meat into a hearty meal for a family of five like Roseanne Conner, and few look cuter clipping coupons than 'The Middle''s Frankie Heck. And, with our shaky economy these days, it was only a matter of time before reality TV caught up -- enter TLC's 'Extreme Couponing' (premieres Wed., April 6, 9PM ET).
In honor penny-pinching pioneers and frugal mamas everywhere, we proudly count down our 10 favorite thrifty primetime families.

With a Stockpile of Food Already, 'The Crazy Coupon Lady' Dumpster-Dives for Coupons on 'Extreme Couponing' (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 30th 2010 2:31PM
Hey, we're not going to argue that everybody loves a bargain. But is there a point where it's gone too far? Stay-at-home mom Joanie Demer was one of the featured savers on 'Extreme Couponing' (Wed., 10PM on TLC). She collects more than 500 coupons a week and is absolutely obsessive about them; as well as thorough in gathering them."People definitely throw away money when they're throwing away their newspapers," Demer said. "And so I've got no shame jumping in after to get what I need." That's right, Demer collects coupons from other people's recyclables, and presumably trash. She even took her son and pregnant friend on a dumpster diving mission.
