Florence Henderson Remembers Her Time on 'Dancing With the Stars' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 11th 2011 12:15AM
Florence Henderson, 'The Rosie Show'Florence Henderson spent five weeks as a hoofer on 'Dancing With the Stars,' an experience she equated to her time on Broadway on 'The Rosie Show' (Weeknights, 7PM ET on OWN). It's a lot of hard work, and when the curtain goes up you either soar or you fall, but either way it's live.

"When they first asked you, did you say yes right away?" Rosie O'Donnell asked her.

Henderson admitted to being a huge fan of the show already by that point. "I was in the audience often," she said. "When they asked me ... I said, 'Oh yeah, thank you!'"

Kathy Griffin Calls Bristol Palin Fat, Is Booed by a Crowd of U.S. Soldiers (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Dec 6th 2010 8:21AM
Kathy Griffin Calls Bristol Palin Fat, Is Booed by a Crowd of U.S. Soldiers"Let's talk about 'Dancing With the Stars'!" comedienne Kathy Griffin yelled to the crowd. Oh, can we? What shall we discuss? How Carrie Ann Inaba is of mixed Japanese, Chinese and Irish ancestry? Do we want to talk about Derek Hough's record third win on the show? Should we gab about Florence Henderson's 'Brady Bunch'-themed tango? Or are we ... going to end up talking about Bristol Palin again?

"We got two words," Griffin continued. "BRISTOL ... PALIN." Ah. We see. Kathy was performing in front of a huge crowd of soldiers for 'VH1 Divas: Salute the Troops.' (Sun., 9PM ET on VH1). But as soon as she mentioned the dreaded words "Bristol Palin," the boos started rolling in from the troops. Wait. What are we booing again? Bristol? Kathy's sailor outfit? ... Kathy's comedy routine?

It turned out that the troops were jeering Ms. Griffin's routine. "You're gonna like this," she continued gamely. "[Bristol is] the only contestant in the history of the show to actually gain weight. ... She gained like 30 pounds a week. I swear to God, it was fantastic -- she's like the white 'Precious.'"

After the finale, TV Squad spoke to the winner and runners-up Kyle Massey and Bristol Palin; their respective pro partners, Derek Hough, Lacey Schwimmer and Mark Ballas; as well as returning contestants about the rollercoaster that was season 11.

On the 'DWTS' Scene: Flo, No! Florence Henderson Reacts to Her Shocking Exit

by Michael Maloney, posted Oct 20th 2010 1:00PM

Florence Henderson and Corky BallasIt was the biggest "WTF" moment on 'Dancing With the Stars' since Kate Gosselin danced to 'Paparazzi': Bristol Palin and partner Mark Ballas, who scored a mere 18 points for their performance on Monday, were called safe on this week's results show.

Gasps of shock and amazement erupted from the backstage press viewing area when Palin and Ballas advanced to week 6. Even Ballas had predicted the pair would be standing under the dreaded red light, but they, along with Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer, the second lowest-scoring duo, were called safe in the first few minutes of last night's show.

Instead, lovable 'Brady Bunch' mom Florence Henderson and partner Corky Ballas got the boot.

"When the two lowest scoring people were called safe, I said, 'Corky, we're in trouble,'" ejected celeb Florence Henderson told reporters after the show. "I was a little surprised, but I've watched this show from the beginning and have seen absolutely shocking things happen on it."

'Dancing With the Stars' Results : Who Got Voted Off? (VIDEO)

by Sharon Knolle, posted Oct 20th 2010 1:35AM
Was Bristol Palin's gorilla-suited 'Monkee's theme her last dance? The teen activist, who's had a wobbly time of it so far this season on 'Dancing With the Stars,' has constantly been in jeopardy and this week was no different; she and partner Mark Ballas earned the lowest combined score.

In typical reality-show style, we'll save the reveal of who went home until after we tell you who performed: Shakira and Jason Derülo.

The show's comic highlight: Faux ads for how to dance like Bruno Tonioli, another offer that included a free dancer (Derek Hough, limited time only). And, in a return appearance, David Hasselhoff as "The Sledgehammer," a lawyer out to get cash settlements for fellow ousted dancers Margaret Cho and The Situation.

Keep reading to see who went home in week five.

On the 'DWTS' Scene: Florence Henderson Remembers the Late Robert Reed

by Michael Maloney, posted Oct 19th 2010 11:00AM
Florence Henderson, Corky BallasLast week, 'Dancing With the Stars' producers weren't sure if they could get the rights to 'The Brady Bunch' theme song for Florence Henderson (aka Carol Brady) and pro partner Corky Ballas to use during their TV theme week performance.

As viewers saw last night, the song was approved. While it wasn't perhaps the best tune to tango to, it did have great sentimental value to Henderson.

"The reason I really wanted to dance to the 'Brady Bunch' theme was because I wanted to dedicate it to Bob," Henderson told TV Squad on the post-show press line, referring to the late Robert Reed (who played her TV husband Mike Brady.)

"To lose him to AIDS [in 1992] broke all of our hearts. The fact that Barry [Williams, Greg] was here and knows how close we all were to Bob ... that was my dedication tonight."

Bristol Palin Wears a Gorilla Suit on 'Dancing With the Stars' (VIDEO)

Bristol Palin Wears a Monkey Suit on 'Dancing With the Stars'It's TV theme song week on 'Dancing With the Stars' (Mon., 8PM ET on ABC). Tonight, one dancer really went bananas. She monkeyed around. She was the gorilla-of-our-dreams. (Okay, we're done with the puns now.)

Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas came out in monkey costumes, and did a jive dance to the theme from 'The Monkees.' Bristol has been criticized for not showing enough personality on the dance floor. But when dressed in a full bodysuit, she was a lot less uptight.

[Warning: Spoiler alert.]

On the Scene: Will Florence Henderson Dance to the 'Brady Bunch' Theme on 'DWTS'?

by Michael Maloney, posted Oct 12th 2010 1:00PM
Florence Henderson on 'Dancing With the Stars'More about this week's performance show of 'Dancing With the Stars' in a bit, but here's a great reason to already get excited about next week's performances: The stars and their dancing pro partners will be performing routines to hit TV show theme songs.

A few couples revealed what song they'll be dancing to on the post-show press line, but it's up in the air if the most natural choice, Florence Henderson and Corky Ballas twirling to the theme song from 'The Brady Bunch,' is going to happen. First, the duo has to survive tonight's elimination show. Second, the song needs to go through certain legal clearances so it can be used on the show.

Henderson told TV Squad, "We're hoping [we dance to 'The Brady Bunch' theme]. I can't imagine that they would not [clear it.]" Of course, as her partner, Ballas, pointed out, "But first, we have to get saved."

Florence Henderson Says Bruno Tonioli Had "PMS" When He Criticized Michael Bolton (VIDEO)

Florence Henderson: Judge Bruno Tonioli Had 'PMS' When He Criticized Michael Bolton'Dancing With the Stars' contestant Florence Henderson decided to weigh in on the whole Bruno Tonioli vs. Michael Bolton controversy. And she got a little catty while doing so.

On 'The Tonight Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC), Henderson discussed the feud between Mr. Tonioli and Mr. Bolton. The judge and the contestant have been bickering ever since Michael's dismissal on week two of the dance contest.

"Was Bruno too harsh on him?" asked host Jay Leno. Florence tried to be even-handed in her reply. First, she stood up for Tonioli's actions. "Judges are judges," she said. "You gotta take the criticism." But then, Henderson smirked and said this: "I do think Bruno may have had a little PMS that night." Ouch!

On the Scene: Are the 'Dancing With the Stars' Judges Getting ... Nicer?

by Michael Maloney, posted Oct 5th 2010 10:30AM
Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli Were the 'Dancing With the Stars?' judges a bit kinder on Monday night's week 3?

The stars and dancers think so, but not because Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli were trying to make up for being extremely harsh on Michael Bolton last week. (Bolton was ejected after dancing a disappointing jive that Bruno called the worst in 11 seasons of 'DWTS.')

"Last week some of the comments were definitely harsh," said Anna Trebunskaya. "This week everyone got scared of those comments so they worked really hard and we had a great show as a result. We [all] did our absolute best."

Dancing With the Stars Cast
The first night jitters are officially out of the way. Twelve stars and their celebrity pro partners took to the dance floor and performed either a Cha-Cha or a Viennese Waltz on the 'Dancing With the Stars' season 11 opening night show. Actress Jennifer Grey, singer Brandy Norwood and athletes Rick Fox and Kurt Warner performed well -- as expected -- but the surprise of the night was teen actor Kyle Massey, who brought to mind a young Warren Sapp (Kym Johnson's season 7 partner) when he performed a dynamite dance with Lacey Schwimmer.

TV Squad was on the post-show press line to get reactions from all 24 participants. For one unlucky couple, alas, it's their second-to-last interview, because tonight one duo is going home.

'Dancing With the Stars' Season 11, Episode 1 (Season Premiere) Recap

by Michael Pascua, posted Sep 21st 2010 6:45AM
Derek Hough and Jennifer Grey practice their foxtrot.['Dancing With the Stars' - 'Week 1 Performances']

After having had mixed feelings on 'So You Think You Can Dance', I was excited that 'Dancing with the Stars' had finally returned. The band, the flashy lights and the ballroom floor were just enough to get me excited. The premiere episode didn't disappoint.

Sadly, there were no real train wreck performances. Even The Situation's five-day Cha-Cha showed potential. The first few weeks boil down to viewer support. If Kate Gosselin could survive the first few weeks with scores in the 15-16 range then anyone with a solid voting block can do the same.

As the stars walked down the even-flashier stairs, Margaret Cho tried her best to bring a fierce model face and tripped on a stair. Whether it was part of her act or an unintentional fall, we'll never know, but it was certainly a harbinger of her performance. It was interesting watching Ray-J, Jamie Lee Curtis and Vera Wang sitting in the audience and either supporting the stars or hawking their goods. Sadly, there was no Snooki.
