When Jon Stewart announced before a studio full of deafening cheers and Stephen Colbert's deafening silence that Barack Obama would become the 44th President of the United States, the show seemed to be in an interesting pickle.

Could the show be just as funny as it had been under an administration that didn't blur the line between setups and punchlines? Could Stewart and friends find the funny in a president who inspires more love and fear in people than a teddy bear with a switchblade?

So let's grade The Daily Show's first 100 days under socialism President Obama report card.

This is the craziest rumor of the week. The New York Daily News is reporting that Rosie O'Donnell might be getting her own show on a cable news network, maybe even Fox NewsChannel. That's right: F.O.X. Of course, that has to be mere speculation on the part of the Daily News, right? It seems like an odd pairing and the people who watch Bill O'Reilly probably won't watch Rosie.

Another possibility is MSNBC, which is what some professor at Syracuse University suggests. He says that MSNBC would be smart to give Rosie her own show and put it up against Bill O'Reilly. First of all, I wonder what Keith Olbermann would have to say about being pushed out of his time slot where he frequently throws punches at "Bill O". Secondly, I agree that would be a smart move on MSNBC's part because Rosie gets a lot of press and MSNBC... doesn't.

I guess this is what the "media" gets for hyping every single opinion that she spouted during her time on The View.

News anchor Keith Olbermann just signed on to four more years with MSNBC. His show, Countdown with Keith Olbermann, has seen a steady rise in ratings lately, most likely due to his contempt for the Bush administration and his "Special Comment" segments that are popular with like-minded folk. Olbermann's Bush smackdowns are particularly popular on YouTube. He's also pretty well known for his campaign against Bill O'Reilly, who shares the same time slot over at Fox NewsChannel. "Bill-O", as Olbermann calls him, is frequently on the list of "Worst Person in the World" for something he has said. Despite all the goofy business, there is some actual news value to his show. Olbermann often runs reporters' packages from NBC Nightly News and then analyzes (as cable news networks like to do) events with various experts.

If politics shift in this country after the 2008 presidential election, it will be interesting to see whether Olbermann can keep the wind in his sails.

Fox Newschannel has gotten its hands on some footage from the ABC fictional mini-series, The Path to 9/11, and is planning to air it tonight. The mini-series, you may remember, aired back in September and had members of the Clinton administration pretty ticked off because the script essentially blamed them for 9/11 because they failed to capture or kill Osama bin Laden. Edits were made before it reached air.

But now Sean Hannity will air some of the original content on his program tonight at 9 pm. Fox got the footage by recording video of an unedited scene that producer Cyrus Nowrasteh played during a speech at California State University earlier this month. Fox will air the scene and interview Nowrasteh, with the reasoning that the American public deserves to see what the Clinton administration was opposed to.

If it were the other way around and the Bush administration had pressured ABC to change its script, do you think Hannity would still air it?

Tonight is the night, people. Set the TiVos and send the kids to bed early... Bill O'Reilly and Stephen Colbert will be guests on each other's shows.

It all starts at 8 pm when Colbert goes to the mothership Fox Newschannel to be interrupted and talked over on The O'Reilly Factor. How will O'Reilly handle it? Will he pretend he doesn't get Colbert? Or, will he be a jerk? Will Stephen be able to hold his own or get a word in edgewise? Oh, I think so. And I think he'll be stroking Mr. O'Reilly's ego the entire time.

Then, at 10:30 11:30 pm the fun moves over to Comedy Central where 'Papa Bear' will be a guest on The Colbert Report. It'll be interesting--to say the least--to see how Colbert handles O'Reilly's attempts to hijack his show (because you know he will).
