Gloria Estefan to Play Santana's Mom on 'Glee'?

by Catherine Lawson, posted Dec 1st 2011 6:45AM
Gloria EstefanGloria Estefan is in talks to play Santana's mom on 'Glee.' How perfect a piece of casting would that be?! According to 'Entertainment Weekly,' Estefan will appear in the same January episode as Ricky Martin, who's reportedly playing McKinley High's Spanish teacher.

Martin is slated to headline two musical numbers in the episode, which will also feature Estefan's music and some other bilingual tunes. A source told 'EW' that the entire cast is "really really big fans of hers and we love her music and her husband's music."

This week on 'Glee' Santana came out of the closet only for her grandmother to disown her. However, Santana told her classmates that her (as yet unseen) parents were supportive of her coming out. So now the question is, if Glora Estefan is Santana's mom, then who's her dad?

The Struggle to Discipline on 'I Hate My Teenage Daughter' Premiere (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 1st 2011 1:00AM
'I Hate My Teenage Daughter' - 'Pilot''I Hate My Teenage Daughter' (Wed., 9:30PM ET on FOX) has been one of the worst-reviewed shows of the season, and yet FOX gave it easily their best time slot for its first several episodes. Coming out of 'The X Factor,' it's certain that plenty of people will at least sample the sitcom. But will they agree with the critics?

Our own Maureen Ryan called out the show for its incessant meanness to the two leads, which is entirely deserved, but I wasn't so quick to say there isn't hope for the show in the future. Yes, it needs to make some serious changes if people are going to want to watch, and that is the key phrase.

'The X Factor' Recap: The Top 7 Perform Michael Jackson Songs (VIDEO)

by Laura Prudom, posted Nov 30th 2011 11:10PM
X Factor judgesCan you feel it, 'X Factor' fans? I'm not so sure that Michael Jackson's kids did -- the poor moppets were trapped front row center as the contestants cycled through some of their father's greatest hits, but it seemed like Blanket was not at all amused by their shenanigans. (Grandma Katherine Jackson, on the other hand, seems to be the series' biggest fan).

Thankfully, now that we've trimmed a few of the extraneous acts -- and thirty minutes of the show's airtime -- I was feeling it, for the most part (except for the part with 'Can You Feel It,' I wasn't feeling that). The M.J. love was infectious, and though some of the acts hit a few sour notes, by the time we reached the end of Melanie's powerhouse performance, it was hard to be grumpy; even L.A. found complimentary things to say this week.

Hit the jump for our verdict on the Top 7, and weigh in with your own reactions in the comments.

Pitching Inventions to Andrew Dice Clay on 'Raising Hope' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 30th 2011 2:00AM
Andrew Dice Clay, 'Raising Hope' - 'Bro-Gurt'Andrew Dice Clay and Patton Oswalt partnered up to provide a memorable guest appearance on 'Raising Hope' (Tue., 9:30PM ET on FOX). Ultimately, it turns out Clay was little more than the Great and Powerful Oz to Oswalt's Wizard. Yes, it was as weird as that sounds.

The premise was simple enough: The family decided to try to create investments that Clay would endorse and help them take to market. But it turned out the entire thing was a scam, so nobody was getting a fast ticket out of their lives.

Nick and Schmidt's Fight Gets Out of Hand on 'New Girl' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 30th 2011 1:30AM
'New Girl' - 'Bells''New Girl' (Tue., 9PM ET on FOX) continues to find its voice, and live up to the potential of its pilot. Who knew that the loss of Damon Wayons Jr. would throw the entire show into a tailspin for a bit, but it's great to see them righting the ship.

Suddenly, Winston has some personality traits to build from and they fit with who he is and what he's done with his life. Plus, everybody loves a good feud. But for as much as we loved Schmidt and Nick fighting over money (essentially) we loved even more Jess' reactions to it.

'Glee' Season 3, Episode 7 Recap: Santana Comes Out and There's a New Class President

by Crystal Bell, posted Nov 29th 2011 10:45PM
glee season 3 episode 7 recap['Glee' -- 'I Kissed a Girl']

Uh. Maybe it's time to bring the leprechaun because 'Glee' could really use some magic. Sure, every season has its good episodes and its not so good episodes -- unfortunately, 'I Kissed a Girl' was one of the not so good ones. In fact, it was down-right frustrating.

The story lines were all over the place, the music was awful -- which was especially upsetting because I happen to really like chick rock -- and the worst part? It made me stop caring about these characters. Not to mention that I think I fell out of love with Blaine. This could be a problem.

In fact, the only character I sympathized with this episode was Santana (and Coach Bieste, but I'll get to that). The one thing I think 'Glee' does consistently well is demonstrate how gay teenagers feel about coming out. This episode featured an emotional scene between Santana and her grandmother -- her beloved abuela.

Not everyone is as accepting as Burt Hummel, and Santana learned that first-hand.

According to TVLine, Martin will play a Spanish teacher. Naturally, Martin will headline two musical numbers on the hit Fox series.

Could 'X Factor' Judges Nicole Scherzinger and Kelly Rowland Swap Shows?

by Laura Prudom, posted Nov 29th 2011 7:20AM
Nicole ScherzingerOn this side of the pond, 'X Factor' judge Nicole Scherzinger has become known for her questionable song choices, rambling critiques and the ability to make every comment she gives to contestants somehow relate to her own career.

Needless to say, there are some viewers who would be glad to see her gone from the judges' table.

According to British tabloid Now, they may soon get their wish, with rumors swirling that Simon Cowell is considering a job switch between Scherzinger and former Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland. Rowland joined the judging panel on the UK version of the show this season, but audiences have failed to connect with her the way they embraced the exiled Cheryl Cole.

Wilson Tries to Trap House While Searching for Guns on 'House' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 29th 2011 12:30AM
'House' - 'Perils of Paranoia'A patient with a massive stockpile of guns led to a fun cat-and-mouse between House and Wilson on 'House' (Mon., 9PM ET On FOX). Wilson was convinced/concerned that House had a gun, which would be a clear violation of his parole, while House insisted he did not.

The ensuing traps and pranks throughout the episode were very inventive, as was the moment when Wilson finally succeeded in trapping House. Even though House gave props to his friend in that moment, Wilson ultimately didn't find the truth ... though we think a lot of that had to do with Wilson not wanting to find out the truth.

Taylor and Mira Must Join Forces to Survive Dinosaur Attack on 'Terra Nova' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 29th 2011 12:00AM
'Terra Nova' - 'Now You See Me'Taylor mused about a parallel universe where he and Mira were allies on 'Terra Nova' (Mon., 8PM ET on Fox). He's right in thinking they would make a very powerful team running things on Terra Nova. Alas, they are on opposite sides of this political issue.

But things escalated beyond their control, forcing them to set aside their differences and take on a pair of young predator dinosaurs at the base of a waterfall. There, they proved that they're really quite alike in a lot of ways.

Unfortunately, their feud is quickly coming to a head, with Shannon narrowing the field of traitors within camp, and Taylor's son coming close to solving the equation that would allow them to open portals back to the future.

Peter Goes to War Against the Amish on 'Family Guy' (VIDEO)

'Family Guy' - 'Amish Guy'When Meg found herself falling for an Amish boy, it sparked a feud between his father and Peter on 'Family Guy' (Sun., 9PM ET on FOX). When the Amish father actually did Peter's chores for him, to rob him of the joy, it was time to bring out the big guns.

Unfortunately, Peter learned that as fast as you can blow up a barn, an Amish community can raise another one in its place. Sure, it was one of the more obvious gags, but it was nevertheless funny watching that same footage play over and over again as Peter tried different ways to blow up the barn.

Marge Simpson Finds Herself Getting Seduced in 'Mad Men' Spoof (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 28th 2011 2:30AM
'The Simpsons' - 'The Man in the Blue Flannel Pants'In a spoof of 'Mad Men' so sharp, you'll swear it's 2008, Homer Simpson took a job as an account man for the nuclear power plant on 'The Simpsons' (Sun., 8PM ET on FOX). While it was a charming enough episode, there were no stand-out moments of clever satire or unexpected twists.

That said, we did enjoy the scene where Marge went to confront the man who held the job before Homer. Clearly a Roger Sterling type, we loved how during her conversation, she found herself suddenly sitting on his bed, and then standing outside the shower while he washed up. That's the 'Mad Men' seduction that washes over women so fast they don't even know what happened until it's too late.

Glee I kissed a GirlIt seems the 'I Kissed a Girl' episode of 'Glee' (Tues., 9PM ET on Fox) will be very Santana-centered and we couldn't be happier.

In the episode, Santana and Finn deal with the repercussions of their hallway confrontation and the other students rally to help Santana come to terms with sexuality.

The show takes on songs from leading female musicians such as Katy Perry, Melissa Etheridge and more. Plus, Coach Beiste gets her first solo, covering Dolly Parton's 'Jolene.'

Nigel Lythgoe Says No Big Changes Planned for 'American Idol' (VIDEO)

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 25th 2011 8:00AM
With the Season 11 premiere only a few weeks away, 'American Idol' boss Nigel Lythgoe has released a new promo video (watch it after the jump) and talked about his plans for the show.

After all the upheaval surrounding Season 10 after the departure of Simon Cowell and the most of the judging panel, Lythgoe says he's done changing the show around. He told the AP "I think we made a lot of tweaks last year. I'm not sure that we want to make too many more tweaks this year."

Lythgoe acknowledged that the biggest change he made to the show in Season 10, which was to stop making contestants sing in styles other than their own, had been a game-changer. It produced the first country winner since 2005, and made it possible for contestants like Casey Abrams to go further in the competition than they might have done otherwise.
