Joe Scarborough is Giddy That His 'No Labels' Movement Bothers Both Frank Rich and Rush Limbaugh (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Dec 21st 2010 12:50AM
Joe Scarborough is one of the most prominent members of the just-launched 'No Lables" political movement, which aims to present bipartisan and centrist solutions to America's problems.

Over the weekend, liberal thinker Frank Rich used his New York Times column to dismiss No Labels as a "bipartisan racket," and influential conservative voice Rush Limbaugh has also railed against the movement on his radio program.

This critisicism of No Labels has pleased Scarbarough, as he explained on 'Morning Joe' (weekdays, 9 AM on MSNBC).

"(No Label's founder) Mark Mckinnon, has done somethign incredible, and I congratulated him yesterday, he has brought together Rush Limbaugh and Frank Rich."

While most assume that No labels' aggresive centrism is the cause of Rich and Limbaugh's shared disaproval, what if they both just don't like recording artist Akon, who has inexplicably written an auto-tune heavy theme song for the nascent poltical movement? We're just throwing that out there.

Rachel Maddow Blasts Afghan War-Based Reality Show 'Bomb Patrol' (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Aug 26th 2010 4:46PM
The new reality show 'Bomb Patrol: Afghanistan' was a topic of discussion on last night's 'Rachel Maddow Show,' (weeknights, 9 PM ET on MSNBC) and Rachel is not a fan of the concept.

The ten episode reality series, which will follow a bomb squad unit in Afghanistan and run on G4, is being produced with the blessing of the U.S. Navy. Still, Rachel worried that packaging the war as entertainment is a dangerous line to cross.

'Saturday Night Live' - 'Zach Galifianakis/Vampire Weekend' Recap

by Annie Wu, posted Mar 7th 2010 1:45PM
zach galifianakis vampire weekend
(S35E16) This was definitely one of the weirder installments of 'Saturday Night Live' in a while, but for fans of Zach Galifianakis, it was a real treat. It's very rare that the entire tone of the evening so perfectly fits the host. A lot of hosts, be they athletes or singers or professional actors, use 'SNL' as a platform for showcasing other talents that they have (or think they have) and that can often lead to strange, near unwatchable territory.

Galifianakis knows where's his strong points are and confidently played those up all through the episode. He is not at his best with cue card-heavy parts, but rather when he forces the audience to bask in his glorious, beardy, unsettling presence. So we got a lot of that. A lot. Response to this episode will probably be highly divided (well, more so than other weeks) but, speaking as a long-time fan of Galifianakis, it worked.

HBO signs... a NY Times columnist?

by Brett Love, posted May 22nd 2008 11:21AM

HBOThis one just struck me as a bit odd. HBO has signed long time NY Times columnist Frank Rich on as a creative consultant. The two are tight-lipped about what projects he may or may not be working on already, but his new position is described as contributing to original program development. Apparently there will also be the opportunity for Rich to become a producer of projects that he helps with.

He's going to keep his gig at the Times while working with HBO, although he will avoid writing about the network, or their corporate overlords (and ours), Time Warner. Hiring creative consultants isn't the usual modus operandi for HBO, and programming group president Richard Plepler added that "it is not something the network is looking to do on a regular basis." Odd as it sounds on the surface, Rich did spend 13 years as the Times' chief theater critic, so he has some background for the gig. And anything that gets us closer to Jay Black, creative consultant to The CW, has to be a good thing, right?
