See Reno: 911 Miami free today in Seattle, Phoenix and Boston

by Adam Finley, posted Jan 30th 2007 4:53PM

reno 911Reader Amy asked us if it was true that an early screening of Reno: 911 Miami was showing in Seattle. I immediately checked every site I could think of to find information, and came up empty. Thankfully, our sister site Cinematical did find some information, and yes, RENO: 911 MIAMI IS SCREENING FOR FREE TODAY in Seattle, Boston and Phoenix. Click here to see where exactly. According to Cinema Blend, all showings are at 7:00pm, and one deputy from the series will be at each event. I recommend you call the theater to make sure that time is correct, though.

Apologies for getting this news to y'all at the very last minute, but my typically awesome online detective work left me empty-handed this time. I have failed you, and to punish myself, I'm going to watch nothing but the Oxygen Network for the rest of the day.

Oh yeah, one last important thing: to get into these free showings you'll need to show up with a print out of your MySpace page. It's easy to sign up for one, so if you live in any of those cities, get crackin'. Then come back here and tell me how awesome it was.

Season premiere of Extras free on iTunes

by Adam Finley, posted Jan 14th 2007 2:29PM

extrasApologies for being a few days late with this news, but I thought you'd all like to know that the second season premiere of Extras is available for free at the iTunes music store. The new season kicks off tonight on HBO at 10pm, too, but if you're like me and love Ricky Gervais but don't have HBO, this is a nice option. Actually, it's pretty much the only option. I actually prefer to only have one option, as it makes it easier to make decisions. Someday I hope to open a restaurant that serves only one dish, but that's neither here nor there.

The second season of the popular series will feature guest stars such as Orlando Bloom, Daniel Radcliffe, David Bowie, Chris Martin, Sir Ian McKellen and Jonathan Ross.

Charlie Rose Show is free on Google Video

by Adam Finley, posted Jan 4th 2007 11:11AM
charlie roseI don't know how long this has been going on, but Mark Evanier points out that episodes of The Charlie Rose Show are now available for free on Google Video. The episodes had been available for some time, but at a cost. You can check out the episodes here. Skimming through the list, I found episodes with Donald Rumsfeld and Noam Chomsky, so there's something for both heartless war-loving conservatives and elitist liberal hippie bastards. Yeah, I know, what many of you are thinking: what about handicapped Whig Party members? Am I so bent on using this blog to tout my political views I won't even give them equal time? You're damn right. Screw those limping, Zachary Taylor-lovin' bastards.

Sundance on iTunes

by Adam Finley, posted Nov 8th 2006 1:28PM

ipodSo I was poking around the ol' iTunes yesterday, and what do you know, they had just added shows from the Sundance Channel.

"Hey, ma!" I yelled, "we done got ourselves some Sundance programming on the iTunes!"

"Yee ha!" she screamed, tossing off her bonnet and almost knocking over her butter churner. As soon as Bessie Ellie Mary Ellen May gets back from the Maple Syrup and Baptism Festival we'll download ourselves some episodes!"

"If only pa were alive to see this," I sighed. "Why did he have to taunt that rabid goat with a stick?"

At any rate, you can now find a few Sundance shows on iTunes. The shows are all of the "reality" variety, including documentaries The Hill and One Punk Under God, and investigations into real-life dramas such as The Staircase and The First Amendment Project.

In2TV launches Halloween Channel

by Adam Finley, posted Oct 14th 2006 4:01PM

draculaIf you're looking for some spooky online viewing, you should check out the recently-launched Halloween Channel from AOL's In2TV. The free online channel features some old school horror films like House of Wax, The Mummy, Horror of Dracula and Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed. There are also some spooky cartoons featuring Bugs Bunny, Batman, The Flintstones and Casper, as well as episodes of Freddy's Nightmares, The Nightmare Room, and Night Visions. Fans should also check out the Heroes and Horror section of the site for more scary stuff, including Godzilla, which I suppose isn't really all that scary, but still, Godzilla will never be not cool.

AOL is the parent company of TV Squad.

ABC offering free iTunes show downloads

by Anna Johns, posted Sep 14th 2006 7:48AM
free downloads
Good morning! Before you check your e-mail, you might want to head on over to iTunes. As of midnight, ABC is offering free downloads of some of its hottest shows. Don't freak out too much-- it's just the season finales for Lost, Desperate Housewives, and Grey's Anatomy. The network wants viewers to get caught up and ready for upcoming season premieres. All three shows undoubtedly ended with big time cliffhangers (I assume because, of the three, I only watch Lost). The episodes are available on iTunes right now to the first one million customers.

The new season of Grey's Anatomy starts Thursday, September 21st; Desperate Housewives starts Sunday, September 24th; and Lost premieres on Wednesday, October 4th.

Watch many popular TV channels online for free, illegally?

by Adam Finley, posted Aug 22nd 2006 11:45AM

tvOur fearless editor Keith hepped us to a site he found via Digg that claims to offer free online feeds of over 150 channels. That's true, sort of. First of all the site seems to be running intermittently, so you may be able to see something and you might not. Second of all, some of the content, such as Comedy Central, MTV, and VH1, is simply a link to those networks' free broadband content. It also appears that many of the channels aren't the American versions. In other words, it's probably not as cool as it sounds, and even then the question is whether or not you'll be able to see the programs. Some of the comments on Digg suggest that, despite the free content, the video quality is rather weak, anyway. So feel free to check it out, but that other video device in your home called a "television" has content on it all the time, and there's very little load time.

CBS to stream prime-time shows on Innertube

by Joel Keller, posted Aug 16th 2006 11:29AM
innertube logoWhen CBS announced the creation of their online video site innertube, the network mentioned that they'd eventually start streaming their prime-time content, but they didn't say which shows would go online, besides the new drama Jericho. Yesterday, CBS revealed the returning shows that will be streamed for free: Survivor, NCIS, Numb3rs, and all three CSIs will stream, with a few breaks for fifteen-second spots. Every show will begin streaming the day after the show airs and stay online for four weeks, except for Jericho and Survivor, which will remain up until the end of the season.

So this means that two of the four major networks are now streaming prime-time shows for free; ABC announced their expanded roster of shows earlier this month. NBC? Fox? You going to join us in the 21st century?

The Simpsons: Homie the Clown

by Adam Finley, posted Aug 11th 2006 10:41AM

simpsons(S06E15) This episode opens with Krusty the Clown's signature bicycle trick in which he rides in a loop and swallows the tiny bike in the end. The kids go crazy for the stunt, but Krusty has other things on his mind, like spending all the money he's making. He tells his assistants to hire Kenny G to play for him in the elevator, to put flowers on Bea Arthur's grave (he doesn't know she's not dead) and to purchase him a new house since his old one is dirty.

His MC Hammer-style of spending money concerns his accountant, who tells Krusty he's broke. The only way for Krusty to make money again is to open a clown college that will train men to pretend to be Krusty and appear at parties and openings the real Krusty wants nothing to do with.

Cut to Homer driving down the highway, excited that it's the first of the month and the new billboards are finally on display. Ever the obedient consumer, Homer obeys every billboard he reads because they each have to do with food. He ignores Krusty's clown college billboard, however, because, "you can't eat that."

Watch every episode of South Park online

by Adam Finley, posted Jul 18th 2006 5:31PM

south parkI wouldn't expect this to last very long, but for the time being you can go to ALLSP.com (that's All South Park Dot Com) and watch every episode from season one through season ten. Essentially, it's just links to videos on YouTube and similar sites, so I'm probably just spurring the inevitable demise of these clips by even mentioning them here, but South Park fans should dig in while this particular fruit is being dangled before them. Based on a 2003 FAQ from the official South Park site, Matt Stone and Trey Parker aren't too concerned with folks downloading their shows off the Web, but those who want to take a more legitimate route should know that all those seasons are also available on iTunes, and unlike these free episodes, those probably aren't going anywhere.

A bunch of free television shows now on iTunes

by Anna Johns, posted Jun 22nd 2006 11:22AM
it's always sunny in philadelphiaThere are all sorts of free previews on iTunes right now. You can see the pilot for the new ABC Family series, Kyle XY, about a guy who has no belly button (seriously- he's lifting up his shirt in the promotional photo).

There are also three free episodes of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the FX comedy about four friends who own a bar. It co-stars Danny DeVito and looks pretty darn funny. There are also some 'Extras' and other episodes of Philadelphia for the usual $1.99.

I also found one free episode of Invader Zim, an old new cartoon from Nickelodeon that I can't even begin to explain.

And there's a rap music video called Rollin' with Bob Saget.

Oh, and there's video of Brian Williams talking to Bono in Africa. Wahoo.

Get ready to ride the Toonami Jetstream

by Adam Finley, posted Apr 26th 2006 3:59PM
samurai jackThis could be the coolest news I've heard all day. On July 17, Cartoon Network and VIZ Media will launch Toonami Jetstream, a free broadband service where you will not only be able to watch shows from the networks Toonami block, but also awesome anime and adventure series the network doesn't air. The initial launch will include the following shows: Naruto, Samurai Jack, Hikaru No Go, MÄR, and The Prince of Tennis. Other shows to follow include IGPX, Megaman NT Warrior, and Zoids Genesis. Now, to be honest, I never got into Toonami all that much, despite having a lot of friends in college who would drop everything they were doing and rush to the TV when Dragonball Z was on. Nevertheless, it's cool to see Cartoon Network once again taking advantage of streaming video. I'm definitely checking this one out come July.

ABC to offer four shows for free on its website

by Joel Keller, posted Apr 10th 2006 6:52PM
Desperate HousewivesABC announced today that it will offer episodes of Lost, Desperate Housewives, Commander in Chief, and Alias on its web site for free. The episodes will have ads that cannot be fast-forwarded through, but they won't cost the $1.99 that the ad-free version -- available from iTunes -- would cost. The experiment will start in May and run through June; the entire season of Alias will be available, as will current episodes of the other three shows, which will be put on the site the day after they air.

It really is getting to the point where you don't even need a TiVo if you miss something, doesn't it? Just go online and watch it on your computer. Not a bad second option, despite the ads (and smaller screen)...

It's okay, Betty Boop is here

by Adam Finley, posted Jan 7th 2006 2:25PM
Hey, it's Saturday, are you bored? Yeah, me too. If you're a fan of "old timey" cartoons like I am, the Internet Archive has a collection of over twenty Betty Boop short films to help you kill the daytime (or nighttime) boredom. They're all public domain, and free to view online. I've been an admirer of the Fleischer brother's distorted, kinetic animation style for some time, and these shorts are both engaging and fascinatingly surreal. Also included in the archive are some of the Fleischer's Popeye shorts.
