WWE Superstar The Big Show Talks About Comedy And Kissing Guys

by Ryan McKee, posted Oct 1st 2010 4:30PM
WWE fans know the 7-foot, 400-plus pound Paul Wight as The Big Show -- one of the most dominant wrestling superstars of the last 15 years.

But through the years, Wight has shown he's not just a looming ogre. He is also a gentle giant with a knack for comedy, appearing regularly on 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien' and stealing scenes with cameos in movies and TV shows.

The Big Show has his first starring role in the upcoming film 'Knucklehead,' the first comedy produced by WWE Studios. To promote the film as well as 'WWE Friday Night SmackDown's' move to the SyFy network, The Big Show talked to TV Squad about getting laughs, his favorite Conan O'Brien moment and kissing dudes.

'Friday Night Smackdown' Moving to Syfy

by Andrew Scott, posted Apr 13th 2010 3:30PM
Friday Night SmackdownLeave it to Syfy to come up with something this bizarre.

According to a network press release, Syfy has picked up the popular wrestling series 'Friday Night Smackdown,' which it will begin airing on Fri., Oct. 1 at 8PM ET. In turn, Syfy will move its Friday-night dramas over to Tuesday.

Meanwhile, things aren't looking too good for 'WWE NXT': The show will officially leave the network in October to make room for 'Smackdown,' but is already said to be in talks with Bravo, according to the Baltimore Sun.

MyNetworkTV adopts a new model

by Brad Trechak, posted Feb 10th 2009 10:33AM
My Network TVMyNetworkTV is changing its game plan by dropping some of its original content and airing syndicated programming including movies. They call it a "hybrid model".

In effect, MyNetworkTV is doing what other cable networks and/or independent stations have been doing for years. That is, paying the fees for syndication rights and having little to no original programming. Even their ratings superstar, WWE Friday Night Smackdown!, isn't owned by the network.

Obviously, this is due to the economic downturn as it is much cheaper to buy someone else's programming than create your own. Still, if this persists nobody will take MyNetworkTV seriously as a network. You need original programming to become a name brand in that business. Ask AMC.

With this model, MyNetworkTV better not lose its deal with World Wrestling Entertainment. If it did, the network would have nothing really unique to offer and would possibly become all Law & Order: Criminal Intent, all the time.

Watch The CW or it could be gone next year

by Bob Sassone, posted May 16th 2008 4:21PM

The CWI know, I know -- a lot of you are shrugging and saying "so?"

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that if ratings don't improve for the last place network, buzz is that The CW could actually vanish next year. Ratings in the 18-49 demographic are down 28%, and the ratings for the May sweeps are down 22%. I guess Gossip Girl just isn't enough to prop up an entire network, and they just lost Friday Night Smackdown, not to mention that Smallville, Supernatural, and Reaper are probably going into their last seasons.

Smackdown gets a new home

by Bob Sassone, posted Feb 26th 2008 2:23PM

Smackdown!Wrestling fans can breathe a sigh of relief today: you'll still get your Friday fix of power drives and folded chair smashing.

MyNetwork (aka "the network no one is quite sure they have on their local cable system or not") has won the rights to air Friday Night Smackdown. The show had been on The CW (and before that UPN - remember those days?) since 1999, but the rights ran out on January 31.

The CW gets out of the ring with WWE

by Jason Hughes, posted Feb 8th 2008 11:31AM
WWE Friday Night SmackDown!Never fear all you wrestlemaniacs. While WWE has abandoned renegotiations with The CW to bring Smackdown back to the network, it has announced that it is already in negotiations with other networks to carry the long-running Friday night staple. Smackdown has delivered solid ratings for The CW (and UPN before it) since 1999, but has at times been an awkward fit for the demographics and perception the network has wanted to put out there.
