Ugly Betty season premiere moved up

by Allison Waldman, posted Oct 4th 2009 11:15AM
Betty_uglyIf you had the return of Ugly Betty in your datebook -- or PDA -- for Friday, October 9, it's time for an update. ABC has moved the season premiere of Ugly Betty to October 16. It'll be a double shot of Betty, two-hours instead of just one. After the premiere, Ugly Betty will fall into its regular slot of Friday at 9 p.m.

Unfortunately, a double dose of Ugly Betty won't be enough to pump up the ratings. ABC isn't doing Betty any favor by plunking it on Friday nights when there are less people watching TV. Sure, there are lower expectations, but what does it say about the network's faith in the show? Why not just put it on Saturday when even less viewers tune in? (What happened to programming for Saturday night anyway? Once upon a time, great shows actually thrived on Saturdays!)

Adult Swim now on seven nights a week

by Adam Finley, posted Jul 4th 2007 1:42PM

astro boyGreat news for Adult Swim fans who wanted an extra night to watch episodes of Family Guy and Futurama for the three-hundredth time: the late night block of (im)mature cartoons now airs on Friday evenings, which means you'll never be without it again, shivering cold and alone in the corner praying for tomorrow to come so you can watch all your favorite shows again.

Basically, there won't be anything new on Fridays, just the usual repeats and anime. Saturdays will still be anime night (with episodes of Astro Boy starting July 14) and Sundays, as always, will be home to original series and premieres. Look for the final two episodes of Harvey Birdman July 15 and 22, new Robot Chicken and Frisky Dingo in August, and the premiere of Lucy, Daughter of the Devil in September.

Six Degrees returns Friday, March 23

To update Bob's strange news item from Thursday: Six Degrees is back on the schedule. Bob noticed a quick reference in an article that the J.J. Abrams drama is still filming, even though it's been off the schedule since early November. Now it's scheduled to return to a new timeslot on Fridays at 9 pm as of March 23rd.

It's a crappy time slot, no doubt. Especially compared to Six Degrees' original spot after Grey's Anatomy on Thursday nights. The show, about six people whose lives all intersect, struggled during its first few episodes, getting a maximum of 9.6 million viewers (less than half of the Grey's audience stuck around). Possibly because it was boring and pointless.

Whether or not Six Degrees has been retooled, we'll just have to wait and see. It looks as though the casting remains the same.

Battlestar Galactica moving to Sundays starting Jan. 21

by Joel Keller, posted Nov 21st 2006 10:55AM
Battlestar Galactica Maureen Ryan of the Chicago Tribune reports that the SciFi channel will be moving Battlestar Galactica from Fridays to Sundays, starting when it comes back from its hiatus on January 21. The show will air at 10 PM ET. This was a move that had been in the rumor mill for a while, so it's not completely unexpected.

(FYI: Keith called his contact at NBC Universal and they confirmed the move. So it's official.)

Of course, they could be moving the show because of the lower ratings it has been getting compared to last year. But Sunday might be a good night for BSG, since the competition (like Brothers & Sisters) doesn't exactly attract the same fan base. It's a move that's not unprecedented; The X-Files established itself with its sci-fi core audience on Fridays before FOX moved it to Sundays and a bigger audience.
