King of the Hill: The Peggy Horror Picture Show

king of the hill(S11E01) What's this? A new season of King of the Hill has begun and they're actually going to air the episodes in a decent timeslot? It's not going to be buried early in the evening where it will be easy to forget about? What hath we done to appease the Gods of TV that they have favored us with this gift? I don't know, but I'm glad to see this series get the timeslot it deserves.

Monk: Mr. Monk Makes a Friend

andy richter(S05E11) Tony Shalhoub has garnered a few Emmys for his role as Adrian Monk, and I know some have complained that at this point it's almost as if he's given the award automatically. I don't care whether or not Shaloub "deserves" to be nominated year after year, but I do know that it's Monk that makes Monk worth watching. I don't watch this series because of the complex plots, because they're rarely complex. Clues to the suspect's identity are made more obvious than hints in an Encyclopedia Brown story, especially in this episode when a mysterious man strangles his lover in the opening scene, a man who is clearly Andy Richter even though they try to obscure him.

Deal or No Deal winner speaks

howie mandelI don't know how many of you out there are fans of Deal or No Deal, but TV Filter has an insightful interview with Thorpe Schoenle, who is apparently the show's biggest winner so far. Now, usually interviews with game show or reality TV contestants aren't that interesting, but it just so happens that Raoul, who conducted the e-mail exchange with Schoenle, is actually a close friend, so it's less like reading an interview and more like eavesdropping on someone telling their friend all about being on this cool new game show. As it turns out, Howie Mandel is actually a pretty cool guy. Of course, we already knew that.
