CBS wants more of The Good Wife and NCIS: LA

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 8th 2009 5:02PM
The Good WifeCBS must be pretty happy. They've been dominating the television landscape for the past several years. And their spin-offs policy continues to work very well. In it's premiere week, not only was NCIS: LA the top-rated new show of the season, but it pushed its parent series all the way to number one on the week, achieving its highest ratings, too.

Those strong ratings have helped boost Julianna Margulies' The Good Wife to the top as well. As a show of thanks and support, CBS has ordered full-season pick-ups for both The Good Wife and NCIS: LA. As much as I complain about procedurals dominating the CBS landscape, people want to watch these shows. CBS does them better than anyone.

So that's one more night locked in and secured for CBS to dominate. If America ever does get tired of procedurals, though, they're in big trouble!

FOX full of Glee, offers a full season pick-up

GleeIt may be the "duh!" pick-up of the season as FOX ordered a full season of Glee today. Co-creator Ryan Murphy says in the press release announcing the move: "It's fantastic to be the first show picked up and that this underdog series, like its characters, will get the chance to keep singing." Okay, I'm on board with being happy that Glee got that full season pick-up. It's got such a unique vibe that I fully expected it to crash and burn on a television landscape of NCSISL&O spin-offs. But "underdog?"

Isn't Glee the most hyped premiere, other than Jay Leno, we've seen in years? The critics have been talking about it like it was the second coming of [insert your choice for greatest show of all time] all summer, many based solely on the pilot. You have to have been living under a rock for the past four months to have not known about Glee.

That said, I hope Glee keeps growing by leaps and bounds. We need something positive and uplifting on the air, and these kids are going to make me feel good through May, until we get that second season renewal.
