When 'Harry's Law' returns to NBC for a second season (yep, that's happening), it'll be missing two of its young stars.

According to TVLine, Brittany Snow and Aml Ameen have left the show as series regulars in what is reported as a "mutual decision." The two may guest star during the second season.

'Harry's Law' stars Kathy Bates as Harriet "Harry" Korn, a patent legal eagle turned defense attorney. The dramedy comes from David E. Kelley, so you know there's a quirk: Harry operates out of an old shoe store.

'American Dreams' veteran Snow played Jenna, Harry's secretary. Ameen, known for the UK series 'The Bill,' played Malcolm, a client-turned-paralegal.

Alan Alda is donning scrubs once more.

The onetime 'ER' actor has booked a guest role on Showtime's 'The Big C' as Dr. Atticus Sherman, an oncologist whom Laura Linney's Cathy consults after her first cancer treatment fails, the network announced today.

Also joining the half-hour comedy: British actor Hugh Dancy, who has signed on for a recurring part, Deadline reports.

'Futurama''s second life will be even longer, thanks to the two-season renewal Comedy Central is about to give the series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the animated show is close to being picked up for two more 13-episode seasons, with one to air next year and another in 2013. The show's season premiere in June saw 2.9 million viewers tuning in.

In February, star Katey Sagal told Vulture that the show had been picked up for another season, but there is no official word from the network yet.

Ready for more 'Futurama'? You should be, because Katey Sagal -- Leela herself -- is saying season 8 is a go.

According to Vulture, the recent Golden Globe winner spilled the beans at the Directors Guild of America Awards.

"'Futurama' just got ordered again for another season," Sagal said. "I don't know if I'm supposed to say that yet. But it just did."

While Comedy Central has not made an official statement, Vulture reports the show's studio, 20th Century Fox TV, has been talking to voice actors to make sure they'd be on board. However, no official negotiations have taken place.

Comedy nerds everywhere cheered when Comedy Central announced it was bringing 'Futurama' back to the tube. But after a series of hit-and-miss DVD movies (that also aired on Comedy Central) and talk of recasting the show's lead voice actors (luckily, that never happened), fans started feeling nervous about the relaunch of Matt Groening and David X. Cohen's sharp, bitter and hilarious ode to the future.

As our own Danny Gallagher pointed out in his recaps of the show, the comeback started out on a rocky note with Groening and crew tying up the loose ends from the final DVD movie ('Into the Wild Green Yonder'). But the new season started to hit its stride around the halfway point with episodes about "robosexuality" -- the love that sprouts between a robot and a human -- and managed to end on a high note with an all-out mutant revolution.

['Futurama' - 'The Futurama Holiday Specatacular']

The last season of 'Futurama' left me wanting a lot more, an even more amazing feat considering it started on such rocky ground and ended up being one of the funniest and most touching season-enders in my lifetime. Try not to read that while thinking about the fact that the show literally came back from the dead, or you'll blow your brains clear out of your skull and all over your computer.

Like all good things, it had some ups and downs, but it felt complete, and it was a fitting way to celebrate a show that had long uttered its last hurrahs well into the previous decade. Still, parts of it felt incomplete, like they had missed some of the traditions and arching story lines that make each season such fun to watch, long after the scripts are burned into the files of my "useless information lobe."

For instance, where were the annual "Xmas" traditions of stringing lights over a palm tree and diving under mistletoe to escape from Robot Santa's "T.O.W. Missile"? Where was the "Tales of Interest" anthology episode that turns hypothetical situations into deadly tales of tragic humor-terror (I call it "humerror")?

Thursday night was a double-whammy for 'Futurama' (Thu., 10PM ET on COM): it was the season finale and the series' 100th episode.

The episode revolved around the Planet Express team's 100th delivery and the subsequent celebration, during which Fry accidentally outs Leela as a mutant, fomenting a revolution and banishment.

The season finale snuck up on me. It wasn't until a couple of days ago when I pitched a feature idea to the editors at TV Squad HQ about how this season was shaping up to be one of if not the best of the entire series run.

Then it dawned on me, this IS the last show of the season. Not only that but it's the 100th episode of the entire series. This thing that has been on the air just by the sheer force of the will of the fans who helped breath life into it and then brought it back to life, has reached one of the holiest milestones of television.

How does a show about the insignificance that time imposes on man make me feel so alive?

'Futurama' usually finds the funny by delving into scientific and mathematical principles that could make a GED graduate's head explode.

Whenever a character references some in decipherable gobbledegook, my tired brain just imagines some overworked Ph.D laughing his head off that someone would take the time to work a "Coulomb's Law" reference into a major network comedy (and we wonder why they were canceled by Fox).

This week, the jokes were written for my people and me: the entertainment nerds. Sorry, Stephen Hawking, maybe they'll thrown in a saucy reference to Hoyle and Narlikar's theory of gravitation next week.

The creator of 'The Simpsons' guest-starred on the new 'Futurama' (Thu., 10PM ET on Comedy Central). Matt Groening is the artist who came up with the Simpson family. He also happens to have created a little series called, um ... 'Futurama.' Matt has had some bumpy times with the Fox Network -- and tonight, he mocked and satirized his employers.

During the episode, the 'Futurama' cast appears at "Comic-Con 3010." Groening is also in attendance, to premiere a new show called "Futurella." But before the opening credits can even finish, Matt's show is instantly canceled by 20th Century Fox. "Wow," Groening says. "Fox has really streamlined the process."

On 'Futurama' (Thu., 10PM ET on COM), Leela and Fry proved the heat between them wasn't just physical. After swapping bodies with a couple of ugly friends, an initially revolting dinner date became an aphrodisiac.

Fry, as the lobster-like Dr. Zoidberg, emitted a hideous burp that fluttered through several layers of neck skin. The act "only makes you more attractive," insisted Leela, who'd body-swapped with the Professor. She countered by dropping her (his) teeth into her wine glass.

"Oh, did my bodily infirmity embarrass you?" she asked. Fry replied, "I'm as attracted to you as I've ever been!" The pair then leapt onto the table and started making out, to the horror of other patrons. And the date didn't end there.

(Season 6, episode 10) The staff writers and show runners for 'Futurama' aren't your typical batch of comedy nerds or egghead wordsmiths.

They are a level-up in smarts and braininess. Their frontal lobe contains deep, complex knowledge on scientific and mathematical concepts that could make even the smartest AP calculus student switch his major to English.

Their scripts and sets contains tons of hidden "in-jokes" that only a handful of mathematicians and physicists would find remotely interesting. Tonight's episode took an entire theory and wrapped it completely around the plot and the truly genius part of it was that even a dumba** like me could enjoy it.

It's always nice when a television sitcom can manage to be funny and still have something interesting to say. It's like getting a delicious ice cream cone and discovering a healthy stalk of broccoli inside of it.

Last night's episode of 'Futurama' took on the never-ending heated debate between science and creationism in a way that not only got in a couple of good swipes at either side, but did so in a way that didn't detract from the meat of the meatbags' main conflict.

'Futurama' is one of those rare shows that can find a lot of common ground in silliness and sweetness.

It can mine great humor from sheer cartoon insanity and still manage to turn into something that can warm your heart and make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, like your organs have been fitted with their own custom Snuggies (Snuggans? Orggies?).

It even managed to be just as entertaining and sweet this week, despite the fact that most of the episode centered around the cult-like ways of cats and general cat-dom.

Anyone who has ever said that the new 'Futurama' episodes could never live up to the epic awesomeness of their seasonal predecessors can officially (according to the National Endowment for the Bureau of Determining Who Can Suck It) suck it.

Last night's time-tripping paradox through the ends and beginnings of time and back again had everything that make a 'Futurama' episode great: lots of heart, deep and complicated plots and jokes that don't suck.

It also finally addressed the slowly building love affair between Fry and Leela, something that felt like it should have been doing from day one (more like day 1.3). The wait, however, has been worth it. Instead of rushing into the relationship like so many cheap prom dates, its absence helps build the tension to a nice simmer in order to present the very sweet and silly story I was treated to last night.
