Swardson scores sketch series

by Danny Gallagher, posted Oct 29th 2009 6:30PM
The man might have terrible taste in comedy special titles, but it's helped him score on his own little corner of the TV dial.

Comedian Nick Swardson has scored his own sketch comedy series on Comedy Central. The show will hit the air next year and feature a lot of digital shorts and animation, some of which will be based on almost Python-esque "Gay Robot" character. Swardson and Adam Sandler actually shot a pilot for his "Gay Robot" character years ago and thanks to the magic of YouTube, you can also enjoy it. Warning: if you're easily offended by jokes of a sexual nature, please get over yourself and grow a sense of humor before watching it.

gay robotIn 2005, a series called Gay Robot, based on a track from an Adam Sandler comedy album, was pitched to Comedy Central. The titular character was voiced by comedian Nick Swardson and the series was produced, in part, by Swardson and Sandler.

Comedy Central passed on the pilot, but new scuttlebutt has it that the series may see the light of day after all, but as an animated series rather than a live-action one. There hasn't been any official announcement in regards to this, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Gay Robot coming to Comedy Central

by Adam Finley, posted Mar 20th 2006 6:06PM
gay robotIf you've been bothered by the absence of mechanized automatons with a penchant for same-sex relations on television as much as I have, you'll be happy to know that the series Gay Robot has been picked up for the 2006 season. The live-action show will focus on a group of frat brothers, including Nick Swardson of Reno 911! who will also voice the robot as he did on Adam Sandler's album "Shh... Don't Tell." Sandler's Happy Madison will be producing the new series. You can watch a clip of it on YouTube here.
