Oprah Sends Wendy Williams a Letter to Clarify She's Still BFFs with Gayle King (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Nov 30th 2011 2:00PM
When Gayle King left her show on OWN to become the host of the new, reformatted CBS morning show, Wendy Williams wondered if the move might signal a behind-the-scenes rift between besties Oprah and Gayle King. She delivered a monologue urging the longtime friends to remember the good times and stay close. And apparently Oprah heard her plea. Or at least her people did, anyway, because Williams received a letter from "Oprah" reassuring her that Gayle and Oprah were still best friends.

Wendy read a copy of the letter Wednesday on 'The Wendy Williams Show' (weekdays, syndicated on Fox) and joked that she was keeping the original in a locked vault in her office. "There is only happiness for Gayle and this wonderful opportunity," the letter clarified. After the letter ended with a "Love, Oprah," Wendy added her own post-script: "stay black."

Charlie Rose and Gayle King to Host 'The Early Show'

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 11th 2011 7:40AM
Gayle KingLast December there was a veritable bloodbath over at CBS when 'The Early Show' axed anchors Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez, plus meteorologist Dave Price, in a major reshuffle of CBS News on-air talent. Now it's been reported that early 2012 will see the show receive another makeover including a new set, maybe a new name, and two new hosts: PBS veteran Charlie Rose and Oprah's BFF Gayle King.

According to 'The New York Times' CBS will announce the planned revamp in New York on Tuesday. The network is expected to reveal a shift in direction away from the coffee klatch feel of most morning talk shows and towards a focus on hard news with the panel format of shows like MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' and ABC's 'The View.'

Current co-host Chris Wragge will reportedly lose his job in the reshuffle, but Erica Hill and Jeff Glor will keep theirs. Hill -- who was promoted when Smith et al. were fired -- will anchor the 7-8AM hour with '60 Minutes' contributor Rose. Meanwhile King will take on the 8--9AM slot with the aid of featured correspondents and contributors.

Gayle King Talks About a 52-Year-Old Virgin Who'll Be on 'Ask Oprah's All Stars' (VIDEO)

by Stephanie Opella, posted Oct 14th 2011 7:30PM
Gayle King is a busy lady, but not too busy to come on 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC) to talk about her two OWN shows, 'The Gayle King Show' and 'Ask Oprah's All Stars.' When Sherri Shepherd asked her about the changes she's made to 'The Gayle King Show,' she said it would remain a radio and television show because it's still on Sirius XM, but she promised that "you will see more guests. It's true."

One guest Sherri was particularly interested in was a woman who'll be on 'Ask Oprah's All Stars', which will be hosted by King and feature Dr. Phil, Suze Orman and Dr. Oz. The woman is a 52-year-old virgin who has finally met the right man. Sherri wondered how she made it that long and Gayle seemed to be suspicious that it was even possible, much less healthy. "I don't think it's good to be a virgin when you get married ... I just don't think it's good to have sex with one person your whole life," she said.

Gayle King Relives Her Favorite Moments From 'Oprah'With the end of 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' drawing near, Gayle King relived some of her favorite moments from the long-running talk show on 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM ET on ABC).

King cited Oprah Winfrey's 1988 show where she pulled a wagon of fat behind her to mark a 67-pound weight loss. She also recalled performances by Tina Turner and the Black Eyed Peas, which King said one viewer described as "joy rising." "I think that was really such an accurate portrayal," she said. "People literally started weeping after that."

Stedman Surprises Oprah and Gayle With Taped Interview (VIDEO)

Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show'Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King are longtime friends, and it isn't surprising when King guests on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' (weekdays, syndicated). What was a surprise today for both Winfrey and King was when Winfrey's significant other, Stedman Graham, made an appearance on the show via a taped interview. Graham spoke about Winfrey and King's friendship, calling them "sisters."

"She gets to the point," said Graham of King, "and Oprah's the kind of person where she wants you to get to the point. Stop beating around the bush, get to the point." Graham said he cared for and respected both women, and was happy they are friends.

Neither Winfrey nor King knew the interview had happened, much less that the producers would play it for them on the episode. Graham did say both women have made their living doing what they like to do, talking. Which may be why he taped his interview, to make sure he could get to the point.

Russell Brand & Gayle King, 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon'Gayle King asked for it when she turned and asked Russell Brand's opinion on 'Late Night' (Weeknights, 12:37AM on NBC). They'd just been showing a fun clip from her new talk show on OWN. In the clip, we could see King's leg as she greeted Lady Gaga to the studio.

"When Gaga entered the studio I was in my one-piece spanx and my fishnet pantyhose," she said in the clip Jimmy Fallon showed.

Lady Gaga complimented King, saying she has a "smoking body." But when King asked Brand how he thought people might respond to her doing that bit, he echoed Gaga's sentiment. "I think they'll tell you you look bloody gorgeous," he said.

Gayle King Talks OWN, Twitter, Chris Brown, Charlie Sheen & Lindsay Lohan

by Pat Gallagher, posted Mar 30th 2011 3:30PM
Gayle KingThere's a new talk show in town, but it's not really a talk show in the traditional sense. 'The Gayle King Show' (10AM ET on OWN) invites Gayle King's radio show listeners to become her TV show viewers in a live behind-the-scenes look at her successful Sirius/XM gig.

And, despite what her boss might think, we love the theme song as much as King does: "I like it, I think it's happy ... and it's a catchy little ditty," King giggles, acknowledging that BFF Oprah isn't crazy about it. "We're trying to figure out how to make it a ringtone."

At the top of the show, King discusses the topics of the day including music, politics, pop culture and current events. She prides herself on talking to her audience, not at them, evidenced by her question of the day segment, which she opens up to callers. And then there are her fun, in-depth celebrity interviews, with everyone from Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Diane Sawyer to James Earl Jones, John Legend and Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz.

Hot on the heels of today's news that Oprah Winfrey would be following up 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' with a new prime time series titled 'Oprah's Next Chapter' comes word of an entire new lineup of shows from the media powerhouse. And headlining the list? None other than country sensation Shania Twain.

According to a press release issued by OWN (The Oprah Winfrey Network), the network, which is scheduled to begin airing programming on Jan. 1, has lined up five new shows, including 'Why Not? With Shania Twain,' which will follow the country star's comeback attempt reality-show style.

Now that talk show queen Oprah Winfrey has announced she's stepping down in 2011, rumors are flying about who might replace her.

Among the rumored replacements: Gayle King, known to many daytime fans as Oprah's best friend.

King responded to the reports on Monday in Manhattan, telling Access Hollywood, "That's a very good rumor. That is not true. I haven't had one conversation with CBS about taking over that 4PM slot."

Aha! So, does that mean she's in talks for a different time slot? Probably not. "I don't know anybody that could take over that slot," she added.
