Are Networks Saving the Best New Shows for Midseason?

by Maggie Furlong, posted Sep 13th 2011 9:00AM
Terra NovaHere we are: Fall TV premiere week.

There are some exciting shows slated for fall, including 'Person of Interest' (CBS' Michael Emerson-Jim Caviezel procedural with a twist), 'Up All Night' (NBC's relatable new comedy starring Will Arnett, Christina Applegate and Maya Rudolph), 'Pan Am' (ABC's swinging '60s drama set in the world of mile-high espionage), 'Secret Circle' ('The Vampire Diaries' boss Kevin Williamson's answer to witches) and 'Terra Nova' (Fox's ambitious time-travel dinosaur drama, pictured), just to name a few.

But some of the most buzzed-about shows are being held for January 2012 and beyond, and we're not the only ones taking note.

We gathered a group of esteemed critics to pick their favorite new dramas and comedies -- check out all our videos here -- and the conversation changed completely when we opened the selection up to include midseason offerings as well.

So, as much as people are probably over this common fill-in-the-blank statement, I'm saying it: This year, midseason is definitely the new fall. Check it out ...

Kristin Chenoweth Is a 'Good Christian Belle'

by Rae Votta, posted Jun 19th 2011 5:00PM
Kristin ChenowethKristin Chenoweth is returning to TV full time early next year as part of ABC's mid-season comedy 'Good Christian Belles.' In the meantime, the multi-talented actress took time away from her busy schedule this week to visit New York to co-host 'Live! With Regis and Kelly' as well as support Wendy's and their fifth annual Father's Day Frosty Weekend (June 18-19) where 50 cents from every Frosty sold benefits the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. We chatted with Chenoweth about the campaign, plus her role on 'Glee,' her upcoming TV show and her new album.

You're set to star on a new show, 'Good Christian Belles.' What other TV show would you compare it to?
I'm glad I can't think of another show to compare it to. It takes places in a world I haven't seen before on television -- the church. You know all these women no matter what religion you are. And this is a world I know really well, growing up in the Bible Belt.

You work with Annie Potts on 'GCB,' what's she like?
She's a dream come true, exactly the kind, wonderful sweet southern woman you expect her to be. She reminds me of my aunts. I miss all my girls, we filmed the pilot and then we got picked up and we don't start filming again until the end of July.

We know it's easy, but any dream guest stars for the show?
I'm a big fan of Debbie Monk and Shawn McBride, actors who just take stuff and run with it. I also think of my friends like Molly Shannon, it would be fun to work with old friends, but also fun to make new friends.
