In celebration of the day (sadly, it's not a national holiday), we drew up a list of some of our favorite hackers, forensics specialists, mad scientists, and gadget-wielding experts. They have all, in their own heroically geeky way, saved the day from serial killers, demons, vampires, global conspiracies, rogue spies or just boring old computer meltdowns.

Read on for our list of the smartest, savviest (and occasionally ass-kicking) techies to ever grace the airwaves. Don't see your favorite techie listed? Tell us your own!

Big Bang Theory: Where to find Sheldon's shirts

by Joel Keller, posted Jun 9th 2008 11:41AM
Sheldon on The Big Bang TheoryIf you're a fan of The Big Bang Theory, you've probably wondered at some point where they get all the fun nerdy t-shirts that the character of Sheldon wears on the show. Well, I'm sure most of you, being internet-savvy and resourceful, have probably Googled each and every shirt and already have a spreadsheet up on Google Docs that is cross-referenced by episode and topic. But what about the lazy among us, who'd rather eat glass than stare at a spreadsheet all day?

SheldonShirts.com comes to the rescue. It shows screen shots of every shirt Sheldon wears in each episode and where you can get that particular shirt. It also shows where you can get the shirts that the other main character, Leonard, wears, as well as the the belt buckles worn by their perverted buddy Howard. They also make some suggestions for shirts the nerd heroes should wear in the future, as well as provide links to some other stuff that was shown on the program. It's a good way to waste a couple of hours, whether you're a nerd, a geek, or neither. It's especially good for those who are need to find their favorite geek or nerd a birthday present. To those people, you're welcome in advance.

New magazine dares to take 80s cartoons seriously

by Adam Finley, posted Dec 6th 2006 7:04PM

he manThose of us who grew up in the '80s tend to look at cartoons from that era in two different ways: we remember them fondly because they were a part of our childhood, but at the same time the '80s signified a significant decline in the quality of animation. While toys and games based on cartoon characters were certainly not an '80s invention, many of the cartoons from that era were essentially half-hour toy commercials weighed down by bad animation and stilted dialogue. Some may argue that televised animation never fully recovered from the rote quality that ruled most of the animation from that decade.

MythBusters' Kari Byron in FHM

kari byron of mythbustersMyth: Kari, the hot-in-a-way-that's- hard-to-describe MythBuster girl will do a tasty spread for FHM magazine. Myth Confirmed.

I've been a fan of MythBusters for a while now, and I can't help but admit that there's just something about Kari. Most likely it's the fact that here we have a cool, hip chick who loves downing beers with the guys and pierces things without getting overly pin-cushion on us, while at the same time loves science and getting down and geeky. Being not so bad on the eyes doesn't hurt either.

The Five: Reasons why I'm afraid to give Grey's Anatomy a chance

by Keith McDuffee, posted May 17th 2006 12:36PM
grey's anayomyNow that Grey's Anatomy is over and has officially been picked up for a third season by ABC, it's  time for me to make a decision about whether or not I want to finally bite the bullet and catch myself up with this show.

I've been hearing from several people -- TV Squaders included -- how great this show is, that I just have to watch it, that I'm missing out. So, why have I been putting this off for so long? Why haven't I just sat down and watched the show? Even just one episode? I'll tell you why.

Short-Lived Shows: Welcome to Eltingville

by Adam Finley, posted Jan 9th 2006 6:26PM
welcome to eltingvilleThere are varying degrees of "geek" it would seem. There are people like myself whose brain is packed with some of the most useless, trivial knowledge of comic strips and pre-WW II era animation, and then there are those who surpass my meager geek knowledge by leaps and bounds. Welcome to Eltingville was an animated series that celebrated the uber-geek, and it was damn funny. It's just too bad the show only lasted one episode when it aired as part of Adult Swim. I guess that means the word "series" doesn't really apply, but let's move on.
