by Chris Harnick, posted Dec 2nd 2011 3:40PM
Brian Frons Leaving ABC DaytimeBrian Frons is leaving his post as president of ABC Daytime.

Frons will be replaced by Vicki Dummer, currently the senior vice president of current series and specials.

Frons, who became a reviled figure to many viewers after canceling 'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live,' will exit when his contract ends in January. His departure comes as ABC restructures under the new division Times Square Studios. Times Square will handle all daytime and syndicated productions.

"While my decision to try something new was not arrived at easily, nine years is a long time in television terms," Frons said in a statement. "I'm proud of the performance of ABC Daytime over that time, and of all of the accomplishments that our team achieved along the way. I'm especially pleased by the early results for 'The Chew' and excited for the launch of 'The Revolution,' which will be one more positive step in transforming ABC Daytime for our viewers. I'll miss my colleagues and the wonderful talent that makes our shows, but know they are in very capable hands with Vicki going forward."

Jonathan Jackson Quits 'General Hospital': Report

by Crystal Bell, posted Nov 7th 2011 6:20PM
jonathan jackson leaving general hospital Sad news for 'General Hospital' fans: Four-time Emmy winner Jonathan Jackson may be leaving Port Charles for good, according to a report by TV Guide. The magazine reports that Jackson will shoot his final scenes as Lucky Spencer on November 17, which means Lucky will say his final goodbyes in mid-to-late December.

TV Guide quotes sources who say that Jackson was exhausted from his busy work schedule and the heavy subject matter his character endures, including the death of Lucky's son and his battle with drug addiction. Jackson reportedly met with the 'General Hospital' execs to try and get them to lighten his load, but they weren't able to reach an agreement.

The magazine is also reporting that Jackson tried to rekindle a romance for Lucky with Liz (Rebecca Herbst), but he struck out there as well. It looks like there's no room for happiness in Port Charles.

According to E! Online, Franco, who plays the murderous performance artist named Franco, will return just in time to wreak havoc before Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and Samantha McCall's (Kelly Monaco) marriage.

James Franco Previews His 'Apes' and 'Oz' Prequels on 'Today' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Aug 1st 2011 2:10PM
Matt Lauer and James Franco discuss 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' on 'Today' James Franco's been busy lately. Between his work on 'General Hospital,' hosting the Oscars and his frequent talk show appearances, we sometimes forget that he's also a movie star. Franco took a break from his varied activities to talk to Matt Lauer Monday on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC) about two upcoming prequels in which he stars -- 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' and 'Oz, The Great and Powerful.'

Lauer said when he saw the original 'Planet of the Apes' decades ago, he didn't sleep for three-and-a half years. He asked Franco how high the "freakout factor" is in the new installment. "Actually, it's not a freakout movie," said Franco, struggling to hit on the right description. Lauer suggested "thoughtful," which Franco thought was apt. "It's a little bit of a character piece with feeling," he said.

Married to the Mob? Jason Proposes to Sam on 'General Hospital'

by Michael Maloney, posted Jul 20th 2011 11:00AM
Steve Burton and Kelly MonacoHe's had unsuccessful marriages to Courtney and Brenda, but the third time may be the charm for Jason (Steve Burton) on 'General Hospital.'

The hunky mobster is going to put on his best black t-shirt and propose to long-time girlfriend Sam this week.

In the past, the couple's agreed to keep things the way they are given their adventurous lifestyles -- he's a mobster and she's a private eye. Thanks to some prodding from Maxie and, of course, some deep reflection on the potential groom's part, Jason appears ready to take the plunge. Tune in on Thursday to see if marriage-shy Sam will accept the proposal or shoot him down. (Figuratively speaking, of course!)

Genie Francis' Genevieve Confronts Tristan Rogers' Colin on 'The Young and the Restless'

by Michael Maloney, posted Jun 10th 2011 9:00AM
CBSPort Charles' loss has been Genoa City's gain.

In case you hadn't heard, Genie Francis (whose 'General Hospital' character Laura Baldwin Spencer was so wrongly left off my recent list of Top 15 Memorable Female Soap Opera Characters) is back on daytime as manipulative Genevieve Atkinson on 'The Young and the Restless.'

'Y&R' reached out to the Emmy-winning star after she appeared on a soap opera reunion show on 'Oprah' earlier this year, offering her the part of Cane's narcissistic mother -- the polar opposite of the long-suffering Laura. Watch for a dramatic showdown today between Genevieve and Colin, played by Francis' former 'GH' co-star Tristan Rogers (ex-Scorpio), that will prove that Cane's mama, in fact, is nobody's patsy.

AOL TV chatted with the fan favorite about a variety of topics including who else she'll be sharing screen-time with on 'Y&R,' a 'GH' storyline that blatantly ignored the show's rich history, which 'Y&R' leading man reminds her of the late, great Jimmy Stewart, and which Aaron Spelling series once wanted to sign her to a contract.

What's the Future of 'General Hospital'?

by Michael Maloney, posted Jun 7th 2011 9:00AM
General HospitalABC's announcement today that it has signed Katie Couric to a multi-platform deal -- which includes a daytime talk show -- wasn't great news for fans of 'General Hospital.'

But it could have been far worse. ABC said in its statement that it "continues to support 'General Hospital.'"

Couric's show is set to take the 'GH' 3PM ET time slot in Sept. 2012. The network has already announced that 'The Chew' will replace 'All My Children' this fall, and 'The Revolution' will fill 'One Life to Live''s timeslot next year, but this doesn't necessarily mean that 'GH' is going to that great soap opera in the sky.

Josh Duhamel to Make Farewell Appearance on 'All My Children'

by Catherine Lawson, posted Jun 7th 2011 7:04AM
Josh DuhamelSome good news for soap fans already mourning the loss of ABC stalwart, 'All My Children' later this year. Josh Duhamel, who got his big break playing con artist Leo du Pres on the soap, has agreed to return for a cameo appearance this summer.

According to 'Entertainment Weekly,' Duhamel will appear in an episode in August, and there's a chance that he could even appear in a second episode before the veteran soap bows out in September.

Leo died (or did he?) back in 2003 trying to save Greenlee (Rebecca Budig) in a waterfall accident. However, death -- as we all know -- is no impediment to soap opera comebacks and as Leo's body was never found, we'll now get to find out what he's been up to all these years.

Soap News: Ingo Out of 'GH,' Hearst to Recur at 'B&B' ... and More

by Allison Waldman, posted May 26th 2011 4:00PM
ingo_rademacher_jax_general_hospital_abcActor Ingo Rademacher, a 15-year vet on 'General Hospital,' has been let go. Recently, Rademacher, who plays Australian business tycoon and playboy Jasper Jax, had warned fans via Twitter that his time on screen had been reduced, but the soap's decision to drop him entirely is a stunner.

That means that in the past few months, two major hunks -- Rademacher and Tyler Christopher (Nikolas) -- have been released. It's an ominous sign for a soap that has been rumored to be close to cancellation.

Today, Rademacher issued a statement about his change in status. "It is with mixed emotions and regret that I write this note to you, my fans and colleagues. ... I'm fired." He added that he was grateful to ... 'everyone at 'GH,' the producers, directors, crew, my fellow actors and ABC/Disney.'

In an interview with Soaps In Depth, Rademacher reported that new 'GH' scribe Garin Wolf wants to bring the actor back for a better exit than he'd been given by former head writer Bob Guza. Rademacher agreed to return, adding that he believes there's still hope for bringing Jax back in the future because the character remains viable. Nothing's impossible.

Soap News: Matthew Ashford Returning to 'Days,' 'General Hospital' Gets New Head Writer & More

by Allison Waldman, posted May 19th 2011 4:00PM
matthew_ashford_days_of_our_lives_nbc_2011'Days of Our Lives' is bring back one its most popular stars to the show: Actor Matthew Ashford will return to 'Days' to play Jack Deveraux.

Jack, a character who has been on and off 'Days' for more than two decades, will be interacting with his wife, Jennifer ... if she hasn't divorced him by the time he reaches Salem.

Ashford shared the news on his Facebook page, posting this note: "I wish to make an announcement. I am happy to report that I will be returning to NBC's 'Days of Our Lives' as the character of Jack Deveraux sometime later this month. [I] do not know any real specifics but look forward to this opportunity to play Jack and work with old and new friends."

During recent episodes, Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) has been falling in love with Dr. Daniel Jonas. Jennifer came home without her husband. Jack, an intrepid reporter, was on an Australian "walkabout" and hadn't been in touch with Jennifer or their children for months.

Jack was a no-show during some pretty big moments in Jennifer's life, like the time she had her heart harvested when she tried to stop a black market organ-donor ring. He didn't even drop an email to Jennifer. With that said, he should have a lot of explaining to do when he finally shows up on Jennifer's doorstep in late June or early July.
