'Glee' Season 3, Episode 8 Recap: It's Sectionals Time! And the Winner Is...

['Glee' -- 'Hold on to Sixteen']Say what you want about 'Glee,' but any show that can actually pull off an amazing 'Man in the Mirror' cover is OK in my books, and that's exactly what the New Directions did in 'Hold on to Sixteen. 'But it was more than just 'the Sectionals episode.' It actually gave me some hope for the rest of the season, hope that the writers had not forgotten about their characters.
Crazy Quinn? She's gone ... Hooray! It's been a rough few seasons with Quinn, but here's hoping that her crazy spell is officially over because I happen to really love Dianna Agron.
I don't know what I enjoyed more in this episode: Sam's anticipated return, the Troubletones awesome 'Survivor/I Will Survive' diva mash-up, the New Directions' Jackson family medley or Rachel and Quinn's surprising character developments.
But let's get back to Sectionals. It was a battle for show choir dominance, and in the end, only one glee club could advance to Regionals. And the Sectionals glory goes to ...
'Glee' Star Harry Shum Jr. On His Biggest Dance Number Yet
by Chris Harnick, posted Dec 6th 2011 4:37PM
Harry Shum Jr. has had one heck of a year on 'Glee.' His character, Mike Chang, had his first solo, taught the rest of New Directions how to dance like pros and had a meaty storyline with his parents. And all of that in just the first half of the third season.
"I think the storyline with the dad and the family is kind of an ongoing thing," Shum told AOL TV during a phone interview in early December. "I don't know when we'll see it actually wrap up and move on to something else."
After two seasons as a background player, Shum is getting his chance to shine in the spotlight. But he's not the only one getting some love from writers in upcoming episodes-- he's rooting for his on-screen girlfriend to get the same treatment.
"I'm hoping that more is happening with Mike and Tina that we'll get in deeper with, but more focused on Tina, which I'm happy about," he said. "It's been a long time coming since we actually saw a storyline with Tina."
McKinley High School's two glee clubs, New Directions and Trouble Tones, face off, New Directions and Trouble Tones, face-off in Sectionals, and the underdogs have an ace up their sleeve: returning member Sam Evans (Chord Overstreet) and a Jackson family medley. Yep, Jackson 5, Janet Jackson and Michael Jackson all get the 'Glee' treatment.
