Alton Brown Talks 'The Next Iron Chef,' Retiring 'Good Eats' and Why He's Not Cool Until He Appears on 'MythBusters'

by Crystal Bell, posted Oct 28th 2011 4:30PM
It's hard to imagine the Food Network without thinking of Alton Brown. For 13 years, viewers of all ages invited Brown and his Peabody Award-winning show 'Good Eats' into their homes. After nearly 250 highly entertaining and deliciously appetizing episodes, Brown decided to hang up his apron and retire his popular show.

But the self-described "mastermind" (or at least that's what it says on his business cards) has a few more tricks up his sleeve, including several 'Good Eats' specials, continuing to offer smart commentary on 'Iron Chef America' and returning as host of Season 4 of 'The Next Iron Chef' (premieres Sun., Oct. 30, 9PM ET on Food Network).

We caught up with Brown to talk about the upcoming season, saying goodbye to 'Good Eats' and why you should never call him a chef -- unless you want to insult him.

If You Like (Show X), You Should Try Watching (Show Y)

by Bob Sassone, posted Nov 21st 2010 2:00PM
America's Test KitchenThere are so many channels and so many shows now that a regular television guide can be more confusing than helpful. Sometimes you just want to watch shows that are similar to ones you already watch.

Here are six TV shows and related recommendations you may enjoy. Now, doing something like this isn't automatic -- for example, just because you like a sitcom like 'According To Jim' doesn't mean you're going to like a comedy like '30 Rock' -- but these shows have a lot more in common than genre.

If you like the first show, you'll probably like the second.

The 10 Best Food Network Shows

by Allison Waldman, posted Nov 13th 2010 10:00AM
food_network_logoFor a network that began just 17 years ago, the Food Network has become a cable television fixture and a pop culture sensation. Its cooks and chefs and foodies of Food Network have become celebrities.

Since its debut on Nov. 23, 1993, Food Network has expanded like mad. It launched food products that fill our supermarket shelves. There's media exposure via a website and monthly magazine ... and that doesn't include Rachael Ray's talk show and Guy Fieri's game show and Alton Brown's grape juice commercials. And it launched a secondary outlet in The Cooking Channel.

But the key to all the success is the Food Network itself.

Alton Brown On 'The Next Iron Chef' and Jumping Through Flaming Culinary Hoops

by Allison Waldman, posted Sep 30th 2010 2:00PM
alton_brown_good_eats_food_networkThere's no more ubiquitous and beloved star of the Food Network than the Peabody-award winning host of 'Good Eats,' Alton Brown. In addition to his 12 years as the host and creator of 'Good Eats,' Brown has also hosted 'Feasting on Asphalt,' 'Feasting on Waves,' is the expert commentator on 'Iron Chef America' and host of 'The Next Iron Chef America.'

'The Next Iron Chef America' begins its third season Sun., Oct. 3 at 9PM on Food Network. In anticipation of the competition, Alton shared his thoughts about the show, as well as a few other revelations. For instance, how did Emmy-winning TV chef Ming Tsai end up in 'The Next Iron Chef'?

What will be different about this season of 'The Next Iron Chef'?

You know what? A lot. It's a happier show, in a lot of ways, than it's been before. Season 3 had a real positive vibe to it, even for a show that's incredibly grueling. And it is more grueling from a competitive standpoint than either season that came before. The tasks are much harder, but for some reason if felt like a friendly shoot.

Slashfood picks the ten greatest cooking shows of all-time

by Bob Sassone, posted Dec 31st 2009 6:01PM
Graham KerrI'm sort of a cooking show geek. I can watch Martha Stewart bake a pie or Alton Brown explain how a convection oven works any time of the day, even two in the morning. And it's not like I just started watching cooking shows in the past several years because it was hip to do so, I've been watching them since I was a kid. I was rather addicted to The French Chef and The Galloping Gourmet when I was younger.

Both shows make it to our sister site Slashfood's list of the ten greatest cooking shows of all-time.
