'Gossip Girl' Season 5, Episode 10 Recap: Top 5 OMG Moments in the Midseason Finale (VIDEO)

by Laura Prudom, posted Dec 6th 2011 1:00AM
Chuck and Blair['Gossip Girl' - 'Riding in Town Cars with Boys']

'Gossip Girl' just can't get enough of those dramatic car crashes -- it's like 'Vampire Diaries' and their obsession with balls, or 'Gilmore Girls' and their weekly town-wide festivals of yore. And when it comes to ending a midseason finale with a bang, few things can beat the sound of twisted metal and one of our main characters in critical condition.

There were plenty of shocks, twists and longing looks in the final episode of 2011, so hit the jump for our top five OMG moments, and come speculate with us in the comments.

Chuck and Blair['Gossip Girl' - 'Rhodes to Perdition']

They say blood is thicker than water, but on the Upper East Side, few things are thicker than money -- a lesson that the artist formerly known as Ivy learned all too well this week. She misguidedly seems to think that the Rhodes name has earned her a bulletproof vest, but in reality, it's only painted a bigger target on her back.

While far too much of this week's 'Gossip Girl' was concerned with Chivy drama, it was nice to see Nate at the center of his own storyline for once (even if said storyline was still kind of a snooze), and the scenes between Chuck and Blair were both touching and tragic. Finally, we saw Chuck admit what we already knew; now it's just a matter of time before Blair comes to her senses, right?

The episode was somewhat lacking in twists and turns this week, so instead of struggling to find our top five jaw-dropping moments, we narrowed them down to three instead. Join us after the jump for our favorite scenes.

Serena and Blair['Gossip Girl' - 'All the Pretty Sources']

No-one throws a soiree like Serena van der Woodsen, but it wouldn't be an Upper East Side shindig without a healthy heaping of scandal. This week's 'Gossip Girl' once again brought all of our favorites together, but despite the verbal fireworks, it still felt like a spark was missing (perhaps because so much time was spent on Chivy and her snoozeworthy boy drama).

Still, some progress was made between Blair and Louis, and Queen B's dashing prince is turning out to be a right royal pain; when he was being sweet, he was simply dull, but now that he's trying to scheme, he's just plain irritating. Alas, we've been promised a royal wedding, so we sadly haven't seen the last of Louis yet, but it looks like we might get a break from Elizabeth Hurley's scenery chewing, after Diana's reluctant exit ...

'Gossip Girl': 10 Things to Know About the 100th Episode & More

by Crystal Bell, posted Nov 21st 2011 6:00PM
gossip girl 100th episode Spotted: Manhattan's favorite Upper East Siders (and Brooklynites) celebrating the 100th episode of 'Gossip Girl' at Cipriani on Wall Street in New York. As always, it was a fashionable affair for the cast -- Leighton Meester, Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, Chase Crawford and Ed Westwick were all on hand -- but the real guest of honor, according to executive producer Josh Schwartz? The celebratory cake!

"We've talked about the cake for a long, long time," Schwartz told AOL TV. "'The OC' went to 93 or 92 episodes, so we were close but no cake. It's really a testament to Stephanie [Savage] and her leadership, guiding the show to 100 episodes. We birthed it, but Stephanie's really raised this child. I just send an alimony check."

But it wasn't all cake talk. The cast also teased the highly anticipated 100th episode, and all we can say is OMG! Orgies, dance sequences, a royal wedding and a potential runaway bride? This is one episode you can't miss. And from what we hear, the first 10 minutes see the entire cast doing something they've never done before.

What can it be? Let the gossip commence ...

Blake Lively and Elizabeth Hurley['Gossip Girl' - 'The Big Sleep No More']

Ah, a masquerade, a staple of CW storytelling and a delicious excuse for all manner of identity-switching shenanigans; it was only a matter of time before 'Gossip Girl' exhumed their stock of fancy facewear and started a new scandal or two.

The episode had more than a passing resemblance to last season's masked ball outing, 'The Witches of Bushwick,' another installment in which Serena and her fabulous blonde locks were the subjects of identity theft. (At least this week's episode didn't see her roofied and unconscious in a grimy motel in Queens.)

Diana proved herself to be a master manipulator capable of rivaling even Blair Waldorf, while our stubborn Queen B. found herself too fixated on Chuck's nonexistent scheme to recognize her own feelings.

Blair - I Am Number Nine['Gossip Girl' - 'I Am Number Nine']

After a two week break, 'Gossip Girl' was most assuredly back with a bang last night, bringing all of our favorite Upper East Siders (and their enunciation-challenged significant others) to one scandalous shindig, where sparks began flying before the coats were even checked.

Louis and Eliza's nefarious scheme was revealed, Nate got more than his fair share of action, Serena hit a new career low and Dan became a literary has-been in the space of a week. And that's not even touching on Blair's grueling bridesmaid competition -- Pippa Middleton made it all look so easy!

Bubble Trouble: Why 'Pan Am,' 'Parks and Rec' and 12 Other Shows Could Go 'Pop!'

by Chris Harnick, posted Oct 28th 2011 11:00AM
Bubble Shows 2011For producers of underperforming television shows, this is the scariest time of the year -- and it's got nothing to do with Halloween specials. By now, the glow of premiere season has long since worn off, and shows we couldn't wait to see just a few short months ago are in serious danger of getting the hook.

Truth be told, the majority of broadcast shows are floating precariously atop the cancellation bubble. A world without 'Fringe'? An NBC Thursday night without 'Community'? Folks, it could happen.

Take NBC: the struggling network is aggressively developing new shows, desperate for a hit. Can old standbys like 'Parks and Recreation' survive when big dogs Sarah Silverman and Dane Cook are all developing new shows at the Peacock network?

A few notches away on the dial, CBS's 'CSI' franchise is starting to fizzle and the network has its eye on new comedies. With three different 'CSI' shows, it's safe to say one will probably go.

Who will survive this season? Only time will tell, but any of these shows could be goners by May.

'Gossip Girl' Season 5, Episode 5 Recap: Top 5 OMG Moments

Louis and Blair['Gossip Girl' - 'The Fasting and the Furious']

You'd think with all the fashion flying around the Upper East Side, those skinny socialites would be used to starving themselves -- but apparently any time there's a fast, the VIPs forget to mind their Ps and Qs, leading to some serious social faux pas (in front of a tabloid journalist, no less).

This week's 'Gossip Girl' found our Queen B. in a right royal predicament, as her baby drama threatened to capsize her burgeoning relationship with Louis' high-maintenance family. We knew Sophie was taking the impending visit from the stork a little too calmly -- and we were feeling distinctly uncomfortable at the possibility that we might have to start thinking of her as a nice person -- so the appearance of a ridiculous pre-nup was a welcome relief that downgraded her straight back to Wicked Witch status.

Chuck and Blair['Gossip Girl' - 'Memoirs of an Invisible Dan']

Lonely Boy definitely lived up to his nickname this week; Dan may be on the cusp of literary greatness, but with friends and family feeling stung by their fictional portrayals, our budding Hemingway found himself alone in a room full of people, and his Amazon ranking certainly won't make waffles with him in the morning.

This week's 'Gossip Girl' was firing on all scandalous cylinders, elevating itself above guilty pleasure viewing to recapture some of the sparkle of its glory days. The whole gang got together, which always guarantees fireworks, and there were moments to tease both the loyal Chair and the Dair fans. Serena's selfishness was back with a vengeance, and Ivy got herself a new ally -- or did she?

Elizabeth Hurley and Chace Crawford['Gossip Girl' - 'Jewel of Denial']

Welcome back, scandal seekers -- the Upper East Side is soaked with secrets this week, which, I hope you'll agree, is a welcome relief after last week's snoozeworthy installment. There was hardly a stilted European accent in sight, and it was refreshing to see the show get the Carol/Charlie dilemma out of the way up-front instead of dragging it out for months of near-misses and dropped calls.

This week, the gasps kept on coming, which harkens back to the 'Gossip Girl' of old: Blair's in denial, Dan's dancing with destiny, and Nate is slowly developing some semblance of a storyline -- I'm clutching my pearls as we speak!

With that in mind, join us after the jump for the five biggest OMG moments of the episode -- I bet you can guess what took the top spot ...

'Gossip Girl' Season Premiere Recap: Top 5 OMG Moments

Blair Waldorf['Gossip Girl' - 'Yes Than Zero']

Another summer gone, another scandalous season of 'Gossip Girl' ahead, but many of last year's burning questions still remain unanswered: Who's carrying a little extra baby weight? Who is crazy cousin Charlie Ivy really? Will Chuck and Blair ever work things out? Will Nate finally get a storyline of his own?

Surprisingly, the Season 5 premiere sheds a little light on at least some of those quandaries, and for all the questions we don't get answered, there's a fabulous dress to distract us.

Still, we can always rely on 'GG' to provide an OMG moment or two, so hit the jump for our Top Five most gaspworthy moments from the first episode.

Who's Expecting on the 'Gossip Girl' Premiere? (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 26th 2011 11:30PM
'Gossip Girl' season premiere - 'Yes, Then Zero'It took the length of the entire episode, with several misdirections and false leads to finally get to the answer, but we did learn who was pregnant on 'Gossip Girl' (Mon., 8PM ET on The CW). It's Doroda.

Well, that's disappointing, but she fessed up when Eleanor confronted Blair about a copy of 'What to Expect When You're Expecting.' So that's the answer ... or at least as far as the rest of the cast goes, that's the answer for now.

For us at home and one seamstress, we know the truth. She guess Blair was about six weeks long when measuring her for her wedding dress, which of course Blair denied.
