Grammys: Tina Fey vs. Betty White!?

by Chris Harnick, posted Dec 1st 2011 12:10PM
Tina Fey Betty White GrammysThe Grammys have always put some of our favorite artists up against one another, but the latest batch of nominations is giving us one very epic battle: Tina Fey vs. Betty White. Say what!?

Both funny women have been nominated for Best Spoken Word Album, Fey for her reading of 'Bossypants' and White for 'If You Ask Me (And Of Course You Won't).' We can't wait for the (hopefully) hilarious split-screen reactions from the actual ceremony.

White and Fey aren't the only TV stars to pick up nominations.

Seth MacFarlane picked up a few noms, one for the 'Family Guy' original song 'Christmastime Is Killing Us' and another Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. Over in the Best Comedy Album category, Kathy Griffin, Louis C.K. and Lonely Island are up against one another.

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 1st 2011 2:30AM
Lady Gaga, 'Grammy Nominations Concert Live'Why just announce the nominees when you can do it with a concert instead? That's exactly what the 'Grammy Nominations Concert Live' (Wed., 10PM ET on CBS) did. And while it didn't go off perfectly, we did get to see at least one surprise that got the on-hand crowd on their feet.

After opening the show with her new hit 'Marry the Night,' Lady Gaga returned to perform an unexpected duet with Sugarland. Their voices went together beautifully on 'You and I.' We love that country continues to collaborate with other musical genres, as when Jason Aldean paired with Ludacris on 'Dirt Road Anthem.'

Jimmy Kimmel's Guillermo Teases Celebs on the Grammys' Red Carpet (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Feb 15th 2011 5:10AM
Guillermo Rodriguez, Nicki Minaj at the GrammysJimmy Kimmel's parking lot security guard hilarious sidekick hit the red carpet of the Grammys to schmooze with the stars. More precisely, Guillermo teased and tormented them. The resulting footage was on full display on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC). Since Valentine's Day was around the corner, he handed roses to the ladies (such as Miley Cyrus) and a few coupons for a free massage that "expires in one minute." He offered a rose to a long-haired Megadeth member, saying sweetly, "A rose for the lady?" It was thrown back in his face.

Wearing a Justin Bieber-esque wig, he was asked by Nicki Minaj, "Do you see how crazy you look?" This, coming from a woman with her hair fashioned after an animal print and topped by a beehive reminiscent of Bride of Frankenstein. He replied, "No. Do you see how crazy you look?" She burst out laughing.

The real Justin Bieber then passed by. Guillermo said, "Wow, he smell like cookies!" Marc Anthony roughed him up a little for giving Jennifer Lopez a rose, and Guillermo had just one question for Jamie Foxx: "How do you make babies?"

To his credit, sources told TMZ that Sheen said he would work beyond the scheduled wrap date, plus weekends, to make sure all eight episodes are filmed.

Did CBS Reporter Serene Branson Have a Stroke On-Air?

by Jean Bentley, posted Feb 14th 2011 11:45AM
Serene BransonA video of CBS journalist Serene Branson flubbing her words while reporting on last night's Grammy results has gone viral -- but not for the reason you might think.

The 17-second clip shows Branson completely unable to pronounce any of the words she's trying to say as she slurs her way through the incomprehensible report. The Telegraph reports that Branson was hospitalized out of concern she might've suffered a stroke on-air, while the New York Daily News reports that she was examined by EMTs and sent home.

UPDATE: CBS 2 posted a statement about Branson's condition, saying "Serene Branson was examined by paramedics on scene immediately after her broadcast. Her vital signs were normal. She was not hospitalized. As a precautionary measure, a colleague gave her a ride home and she says that she is feeling fine this morning."

According to Branson's biography on the CBS Los Angeles site, the Los Angeles native is a two-time Emmy nominee. Watch the video after the jump.

Grammys 2011
This is TV Squad. We don't pretend to have a deep understanding of music and the hottest new artists. However, when the music industry decides to fill three hours of television time with their awards show, we feel an obligation to offer our opinion about it.

The performances were mostly great and the presenters were as awkward and cheesy as always. What follows is a recap from TV writer's point of view, someone who finds pleasure in watching huge television events and making snarky comments to an empty living room.

TV Stars Contending for Grammys

by Jane Murphy, posted Feb 13th 2011 11:00AM
The Grammys hand out its awards tonight at 8PM ET on CBS, and if you scanned the humongous nomination list (109 categories, hello!), you found a lot of TV favorites there.

Some of them are in niche categories that will probably not be featured on tonight's broadcast. But we expect to see at least a few of the following stars in their Staples Center seats, if not bringing it on stage

"Dancing with the Stars' is surprisingly well-represented on the Grammy list. Season 2 contestant Tia Carrere -- also known as Cha Cha on 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' -- contends in Best Hawaiian Music Album for her CD 'Huana Ke Aloha.' And last season's 'DWTS' resident comic hoofer Margaret Cho (photo) is represented in the Best Comedy Album category for 'Cho Dependent'.

Patrick Carney, Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys on 'Colbert'Both The Black Keys' 'Brothers' and Vampire Weekend's 'Contra' have been nominated for the Best Alternative Music Album Grammy. Stephen Colbert can't decide who will get his vote. May as well let 'em fight it out on 'The Colbert Report' (weeknights, 11:30PM ET on COM).

Ezra Koenig, Vampire's lead singer/guitarist, grabs a baseball bat and tells drummer Patrick Carney, "I'm gonna bash those ironic glasses right through your skull!" Carney's Black Keys bandmate Dan Auerbach grabs a chain and yells, "Bring it on, Cape Cod!"

"My Grammy vote goes to whoever has teeth left!" says the host, before an official of the awards joins the scene and threatens to strip Colbert of the Grammy he won for Best Comedy Album. The host doesn't scare him: He breaks a bottle and threatens to "cut your face!"

Stevie Wonder Names the Grammy Nominees for Best Album of the YearThe 53rd annual Grammy Awards are just around the corner! Last night's 'Grammy Nomination Concert' (Wed., 10PM ET on CBS) revealed who would compete for the top musical award in the nation. The biggest prize: Best Album of the Year. Legendary performer Stevie Wonder read off the list of nominees -- and he gave us a little history lesson, which included himself.

Stevie said that in the past, the Best Album award has gone to the greatest performers. The award went to some true geniuses, "from Frank Sinatra, to the Beatles, to Michael Jackson, to U2, to Stevie Wond ... " Whoops. There was a brief surprised pause, and then he added: " ... Stevie Wonder?"

Okay, we know that Stevie wasn't reading from cue cards -- so he had his remarks memorized, and wasn't actually surprised. But if anyone's won the right to plug himself a little, it's Stevie. The singer-songwriter has won 22 Grammys in his lifetime, tying him with U2, and placing him 5th on the all-time list of winners.

And now, your list of Grammy Best Album nominees are ...

Yes! That's exactly what it felt like. And of course, it allowed Pink to do something really cool: "I wanted to get all the famous people wet." Yeah, there's that, too.

Jamie Foxx on Taking his Daughter to the Grammys (VIDEO)

David Letterman, Jamie Foxx, GrammysYou'd think that it must be pretty cool to be Jamie Foxx's daughter. Even if you think your dad is the lamest thing on the planet, hey, at least you get to go to the Grammys and hang with all the cool people like Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga.

Then again, we're not sure how cool it would be to do that and have your dad break into a chorus of 'Bad Romance' on the red carpet. Foxx stopped by 'Late Show with David Letterman' (weeknights, 11:30PM ET on CBS) to talk about the experience of taking his daughter Corinne -- who's in the 'Oh my God' stage -- to the Grammys.
