ABC Strikes New Deals with Netflix, Amazon

by Chris Harnick, posted Oct 31st 2011 11:30AM
ABCNetflix seems to be combating its bad press by striking up partnership deals with TV networks. Hot on the heels of its deals with The CW and AMC, Netflix and Disney-ABC Television Group have reached a new agreement, extending their existing licensing agreement.

As part of the new deal, episodes of new seasons from Disney-ABC shows will be available on Netflix 30 days after the last episode of each season airs.

'Alias,'
'Switched at Birth' and 'Kick Buttowski' will now be available on Netflix. The new deal extends to the previous seasons of 'Lost,' 'Brothers & Sisters,' 'Ugly' Betty,' 'Grey's Anatomy,' 'Private Practice' and 'Desperate Housewives' that are currently on the streaming service. Five ABC Family Girls Who Could Be Your New BFF

by Jean Bentley, posted Jun 14th 2011 2:15PM
Nine Lives of Chloe KingIt's doubtful a mysterious stranger is blackmailing you and framing you for your best friend's murder, but isn't it strange that somehow it feels like the 'Pretty Little Liars' girls could be your real-life BFFs?

The same goes for the title character on 'The Nine Lives of Chloe King.' So you're not the most powerful member of a feline-like ancient race with nine lives -- you get the same butterflies when a cute guy flirts with you at your after-school job.

ABC Family has always done a good job at creating shows around likable teenage girls who you can identify with even if your life is nothing like theirs. In honor of tonight's 'PLL' return (8PM ET) and 'Nine Lives' premiere (9PM), I've rounded up five of ABC Family's most relatable characters -- ones I'd totally hang out with if I could (and they weren't fictional).

Tearing Down the House on the 'Greek' Series Finale (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Mar 8th 2011 5:16AM
'Greek' - 'Legacy' series finaleSometimes the idealism of youth and the reality of adulthood come crashing together and you suddenly find yourself a different person. The place for that transition for most people is college. And the place to find it on television the past four years has been 'Greek' (Mon., 9PM ET on ABC Family).

But idealism wasn't the only thing that crumbled in this finale, though don't call it sad. Despite their hopes for a miracle, the KT House wasn't spared the demolition.

But college is more than a building, and fraternity is more than a house. While showing us that you don't always win the good fight, we got to see that they all came out victorious in that they've each grown into the kinds of people they can be proud of.

'Greek' Season 4, Episode 3 Recap

by Elena Cox, posted Jan 18th 2011 7:58AM
Greek['Greek' - 'Cross Examined Life']
Casey began her first day of classes bright eyed and bushy-tailed as usual. But in case the thought hadn't crossed your mind -- did you ever wonder how a full-fledged sorostitute like Casey Cartwright could ever be taken seriously in law school? That's right. She can't. In a storyline plucked straight from 'Legally Blonde,' Casey was ridiculed on her first day after she accidentally outed herself as the girl who got in due to a technicality. Bad move, Cartwright.
Like our favorite Harvard Law student, Casey was shunned from study groups and her ex didn't even try to stand up for her. Rude! Casey then went to complain to the professor. Seriously? The prof told her to grow a pair (well, not in those words exactly). Thank goodness ... Casey really needs to stop being so whiny and hiding herself in the home she's made for herself in ZBZ.

'Off the Map' Earns Respectable Ratings, 'Desperate Housewives' Want Raise and More

by Jean Bentley, posted Jan 14th 2011 2:30PM
Off the MapLooks like ABC's decision to re-air the pilot for its new medical drama, 'Off the Map,' paid off for the network.

According to TV By the Numbers, more than 6 million people tuned in to the re-broadcast of the premiere episode, scoring a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic -- just a 13% drop from Wednesday's debut.

President Obama's speech shuffled around Wednesday's prime time lineup on the broadcast networks, so ABC decided to re-air the 'Off the Map' premiere in a prime post-'Grey's Anatomy' spot.

In other TV news ...

You don't want to get on 'Millionaire Matchmaker' Patti Stanger's bad side. A lawyer who recently appeared on the show got a cease and desist letter from NBC after complaining to the press about his unflattering portrayal. All participants must sign non-disclosure agreements, Stanger said. [E! Online]

An upcoming episode of 'Greek' will tackle a very serious subject. One of the show's main characters will wind up taking the morning after pill after a wild Homecoming night. "I read a lot about it and wanted to make sure that we were accurate and respectful to the circumstances," said creator Sean Smith. [TVLine]

Several 'Desperate Housewives' want a pay raise. Terri Hatcher just signed a new deal, and now fellow Wisteria Lane residents Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria want in on the payday. All of the main ladies' contracts expire at the end of the season. [The Hollywood Reporter]

'Greek' Season 4, Episode 2 Recap

Greek['Greek' - 'Fools Rush In']

It's Rush Week at Cyprus Rhodes! And with the semester officially starting, everyone seems to be finding their new roles within the Greek system.

We left last week with Rusty bowing out of the running for KT president in favor of Cappie. This episode, Rusty was announced as the new rush chair (a step above his former gig as pledge educator), and he decided to take the role seriously and actually try this semester, something unheard of by the other KTs.

Meanwhile, pledge educator Tegan came to make sure new ZBZ president Rebecca was abiding by the new rules and even Dale decided to rush a fraternity.

'Greek' Season 4, Episode 1 Recap

by Elena Cox, posted Jan 4th 2011 2:30AM
['Greek' - 'Defending Your Honor']

Last season we left the on-again/off-again Casey and Cappie very much off, after Cappie dumped Casey for not having enough faith in their relationship. Meanwhile, trust-fund babies Rebecca and Evan put aside their respective issues and decided to make things official. So the burning question of this premiere was -- would Casey be able to cope with being single, and would the heartless Rebecca be able to have a healthy relationship?

An Election About the Real Issues That Matter in College on 'Greek' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jan 4th 2011 1:45AM
'Greek'It's their final year for the seniors of 'Greek' (Mon., 9PM on ABC Family), and the last year of the show. Casey decides to start that year by facing off against his friend Cappie for presidency of the house.

This is a college frat house, so it's not like there are big issues to debate, though a debate between the two of them espousing their particular platforms would have been incredibly entertaining.

Cappie's was all about fun: "Is it even possible to have more fun?" he asked his brothers. "I think not. Therefore, the only alternative is to have less fun. And we all know that less fun is not as fun as the fun we're already having." A well thought out argument. How would Casey counter it?

By getting to the root of what it's really all about: "If elected, I promise I will get you all laid." What more need be said? Let the first truly intellectual debate of the new year ring out. Who shall stand triumphant? And why can't they just agree that both ideas are winners?

TV Goes to College: 10 Memorable Shows Set on Campus

by Jane Murphy, posted Nov 16th 2010 4:50PM
'Conan' isn't TBS' only big premiere this month. Tonight at 10PM ET, you can tune into the first episode of 'Glory Daze', a one-hour comedy set among the crushed beer cans and hand-me-down sofas of a fraternity house ... in 1986. (Read Maureeen Ryan's review of 'Glory Daze.')

The cast is full of fresh faces; the most famous name among the regulars is former 'Saturday Night Live' player Tim Meadows, as the awkward Professor Haines.

But can 'Glory Daze' succeed where other college comedies and dramas -- many others -- have failed? Though series set in leafy quads would seem to be limiting themselves to a four-year run, it could take the Hayes University screw-ups of 'Glory Daze' a decade to graduate.

Let's review some of TV's most memorable attempts to bring higher ed to the small screen. You'll be tested on this later.
