Modest Mouse and MTVU make their own greenscreen challenge

by Adam Finley, posted Apr 13th 2007 4:25PM

modest mouseThat Stephen Colbert is quite the trendsetter: first he had fans create their own Star Wars videos featuring himself, and later the hyper-literate indie band The Decemberists had their fans also create a music video for one of their songs, which culminated in the great guitar shred-off on The Colbert Report.

Now, Modest Mouse, another indie band --actually, I'm just going to call it a "rock band" and drop this whole "indie" thing if you don't mind-- has teamed up with MTVU and is asking aspiring video music directors to create their own video for the song "We've Got Everything" off the band's recent album We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank (which, despite being a huge Modest Mouse fan, I have yet to purchase).

Stephen Colbert vs. The Decemberists

by Annie Wu, posted Dec 1st 2006 2:45PM
Stephen ColbertOkay, so... Colbert called the band out in an episode last week, accusing The Decemberists of riding on his coat-tails. He then instructed the Colbert Nation to enter The Decemberists' contest, but work in his green screen footage from the first Challenge to tear down the band. Oh snap! But wait. There's a second, unexpected snap...

Colbert + greenscreen + lightsaber = fun -- VIDEO

by Richard Keller, posted Aug 23rd 2006 10:06AM

Stephen Colbert as Luke SkywalkerBoy o' boy, you can't click into TV Squad anymore without having Stephen Colbert's mug staring you right in the face. First, Colbert fans attempted to add fake information to Wikipedia, then someone decided to create an electronic version of Stephen's "On Notice" list and finally, to complete the Colbert trifecta, Stephen asked his viewing public to vote online to name a Hungarian bridge after him.

We thought that would be the end of that. But, no. He decided to top himself. Taking an example from the popular Star Wars Kid video on YouTube, Stephen grabbed a lightsaber, went in front of a greenscreen and put on moves so smooth and dangerous that they would make Obi-Wan cower in the corner. Why did he do this? Well, to let fans create their own video mixes.
