Nine TV Characters Who Should Have Their Own Prequels

by Chris Harnick, posted Apr 15th 2011 11:20AM
Prequel SpecialsLet's face it: no matter how much screen time our favorite TV characters take up, we're always hungry for more.

Take Sam Axe on 'Burn Notice,' for example. He's played by a lovable, veteran actor, Bruce Campbell, and nails every scene. 'Burn Notice' fans are getting some extra Sam Axe this weekend when the character's backstory is explored in the prequel movie 'Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe' (Sunday, April 17, at 9PM on USA).

But not every beloved character is that lucky. In our dreams where we're network programming heads (what, you don't have those?), here are a few of the prequel/flashbacks we'd green-light in a heartbeat.

The 'Everybody Loves Raymond' star is guest starring on not one, not two, but three shows at the end of this TV season.

"Patty and I go head to head once again," Roberts told EW. "I still think I'm right about her kid and she still thinks I'm evil and mean."

The actress made her first appearance in the season 2 premiere.

Sara Ramirez Shines, But 'Grey's Anatomy' Musical Gets Mixed Reviews

by Catherine Lawson, posted Apr 1st 2011 8:22AM
Sara Ramirez (Dr. Callie Torres), 'Grey's Anatomy' Musical EpisodeSara Ramirez's performance in last night's musical episode of 'Grey's Anatomy' set the Twitterverse afire. But, while she garnered positive reviews all-round, the much-anticipated episode itself had a more mixed reception.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ramirez rocketed into the Top 10 trending topics on Twitter as fans immediately Tweeted their reactions to her performance. A typical one reads: "This is gonna be HUGE for Sara Ramirez. She's a freakin superstar!"

However, Twitter lovers were less unanimous in their assessment of the episode as a whole, with opinions ranging from "Major #fail," to "disappointing," via "BEST EPISODE EVER!!!!!!."

Some, coming late to the party, wondered if the whole thing was an early April Fool's prank.

'Grey's Anatomy' Musical Episode Recap

by Denise Warner, posted Mar 31st 2011 11:30PM
'Grey's Anatomy' - 'Song Beneath the Song'['Grey's Anatomy' - 'Song Beneath the Song']

Let's get what happened in the 'Grey's Anatomy' musical episode out of the way.

Arizona asked a pregnant-with-Mark-Sloane's-child Callie to marry her, but before she could answer, they were hit by a truck.

Dr. Torres was thrown through a windshield, leaving her bloody and clinging to life. (Bad idea to be eating right now!) During the trauma, Callie has an out-of-body experience where she and everyone around her sings. (And inexplicably, when they are not around her, too.)

All the doctors band together -- including Addison, in a random cameo, and the mention of the long lost Dr. Burke -- to save her life and the baby's. She wakes up and says yes to Arizona. Yay.

Now, let's move on to why this may not get the reaction Shonda Rhimes wants.

Sara Ramirez Gives a Singing Preview of 'Grey's Anatomy' Musical Episode (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Mar 30th 2011 4:50PM
Sara Ramirez on 'Good Morning America'Sara Ramirez reminded 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM on ABC) viewers just why she's a Tony winner and blew the doors off Brandi Carlile's 'The Story.' Ramirez is bringing her musical expertise to 'Grey's Anatomy' in a brand new musical episode set for Thursday.

Ramirez broke through in musical theater, winning a Tony in 2005 for originating the role of the Lady of the Lake in the Broadway production of Eric Idle's 'Spamalot!', so a musical episode didn't worry her. Her fellow actors on 'Grey's Anatomy' might have less experience, but they impressed Ramirez. "We've got some singers in our cast," she said. "We've got some really great singers. I'm really proud of everybody and inspired."

Ramirez did allow that singing can be overwhelming and intimidating. But it didn't seem that way for her when she took the mic.

'Grey's Anatomy' Season 7, Episode 17 Recap

by Breia Brissey, posted Mar 25th 2011 6:50AM
'Grey's Anatomy' S07/E17['Grey's Anatomy' - 'This is How We Do It']

Last night's episode of 'Grey's Anatomy' had me at the opening bars of Adele's 'Rumor Has It.' As Meredith explained in her opening monologue, being a doctor is all about following protocol: "Because if we don't follow protocol, then our patients die. And then, we're no longer bad ass. We're just bad."

Derek and Meredith continued to work on their trial study with a woman named Sonya. Her son left London and broke up with his boyfriend to make sure she could participate. It was his way of repaying her for being so accepting when he came out.

Meanwhile, Chief Webber spent his time trying to convince Derek to break protocol and allow his wife, Adele, to join the Alzheimer's study. But the trial and the waiting list were already full. However, Derek's patient, Sonya, later found out what her son was giving up for her, and she immediately dropped out of the trial, thereby opening up a spot for Adele.

Ignoring Orders, a Patient Wins Big and Then Loses Bigger on 'Private Practice' (VIDEO)

'Private Practice' - 'A Step Too Far'Hey, Drs. Freedman and Bennett. It's TV Squad. Great call on that Tyler kid this week on 'Private Practice' (Thu., 10PM ET on ABC). He really shouldn't have been wrestling with that heart condition. But, you know what? You could have stopped it if you really wanted to.

It's a high school wrestling meet. It's not like he was wrestling the President of the United States. We applaud you for standing by the coach and telling him he needed to stop the match. But if it really mattered to you, you would have done more.

We suspect that two doctors running out there with their arms flailing around would have caused the officials to stop the match.

'Grey's Anatomy' Star Chyler Leigh Talks New Love, Old Flames, The Music Event & More

by Maggie Furlong, posted Mar 22nd 2011 9:15AM
'Grey's Anatomy' Star Chyler LeighI don't know a single 'Grey's Anatomy' fan that isn't going through withdrawal. We haven't had a new episode in a month, and the teases and scoops and sneak peek videos have been enough to drive anyone to a rage-filled Seattle Grace shoot-out. (Too soon?)

Never fear because there's finally a new episode this week (Thurs., March 24, 9PM ET on ABC). I caught up with star Chyler Leigh, the forever in flux Dr. Lexie Grey -- who was last seen showering with sexy Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) -- to find out what's coming next.

First up, there's this week's big baby shower episode for Callie, complete with the typical shower games and, in true 'Grey's' fashion, some major drama.

Then next week we'll finally see The Music Event, 'Grey's Anatomy''s much-anticipated 'Song Beneath the Song' musical episode, in which Leigh will be singing Anna Nalick's 'Breathe (2 AM),' alongside cast performances of The Fray's 'How to Save a Life,' Snow Patrol's 'Chasing Cars' and other songs that the show has helped make famous.

Leigh dished about Lexie's newfound relationship with Jackson, her ongoing flirtation with Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) and more. Then she tried her best not to spoil anything about the big music-filled extravaganza (Thurs., March 31, 9PM ET).

Which Shows are TV's Biggest Moneymakers?

by Catherine Lawson, posted Mar 17th 2011 9:20AM
'American Idol' judgesForbes has unveiled its annual list of TV's Biggest Moneymakers, and it contains some really good news for Chuck Lorre -- three of his shows are in the Top 10 -- and some really bad news for NBC: None of their shows made the cut.

The top spot goes yet again to Fox's ratings juggernaut 'American Idol'. Pulling in $7.11 million of advertising revenue for each half hour it's on the air, 'Idol' is way ahead of its closest competitor, CBS's hit comedy 'Two and a Half Men.'

'Men' has been hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons lately, and the future of the show is uncertain. Star Charlie Sheen's been fired, creator Chuck Lorre's said "I'm so outta here," and production's been stopped.

Ellen Pompeo Gets a Scare for the Second Time on 'Ellen' (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Mar 15th 2011 9:15AM
One of these days, Ellen DeGeneres is going to give someone a heart attack, and it might just be Ellen Pompeo of 'Grey's Anatomy.'

On 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' (weekdays, syndicated), DeGeneres scares yet another guest during an interview. This time, a man in a zebra costume slowly creeps up behind Pompeo and gives her a fright, causing the actress to shriek and recoil in her chair.
