Zooey Deschanel, Rachel Bilson in Talks to Join Pilots, Tracy Morgan Back at '30 Rock' and More

by Jean Bentley, posted Feb 8th 2011 7:00PM
Zooey DeschanelZooey Deschanel might be a movie star already, but she could be following in her big sister's footsteps and joining a TV series full time.

TV Line reports that Deschanel is reportedly in talks to star in the Fox comedy pilot 'Chicks and Dicks,' from 'No Strings Attached' writer Liz Merriwether. The actress would play Jessica, an elementary school teacher who moves in with a group of immature guys after breaking up with her live-in boyfriend.

Nothing's set in stone yet, especially not the title of the show -- that'll probably change if the series ever makes it to air.

Deschanel's sister, Emily, stars on the Fox hit 'Bones.'

Also in contention to star in one of the season's biggest pilots is Rachel Bilson, who is in talks for a lead role in Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage's new show, 'Hart of Dixie.' Bilson would play a New York City doctor who inherits a small Southern medical practice, reports Deadline.

'Saturday Night Live' - Gwyneth Paltrow / Cee Lo Green Recap

by Dr. Ryan Vaughan, PhD (no, seriously), posted Jan 16th 2011 10:30AM
Gwyneth Paltrow, Cee Lo Green, Saturday Night Live['Saturday Night Live' - 'Season 36, Episode 12']

It's been almost ten years since Gwyneth Paltrow last hosted 'Saturday Night Live,' and a lot has happened since then. She married a pretentious rockstar, named a person "Apple," starred in a blockbuster superhero franchise, showed up on 'Glee' and kept her girlish figure. She has always fared well at Studio 8H, to an impressive degree. So much so that I can vividly recall having to fight the urge to laugh since I hated her for that brutal duet with Huey Lewis, only to be thwarted by her comedic overtures.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Cee Lo Green Get Close In This Week's 'Saturday Night Live' Promos

by Jean Bentley, posted Jan 14th 2011 3:30PM
Cee Lo Green, Gwyneth Paltrow, Saturday Night LiveWhile Gwyneth Paltrow was stuck in London earlier this week, Andy Samberg and Fred Armisen filmed a 'Saturday Night Live' promo without her. Since she's now safely in New York City, the 'SNL' gang decided to try again.

Things got pretty intimate between Paltrow and this week's musical guest, Cee Lo Green. They're rumored to have collaborated on a song, but could they be collaborating on more (if you know what we mean, wink wink)? Jason Sudekis, on the other hand, didn't have as much luck.

Will 'Glee' Really Do a Bieber Episode? Plus: Gwyneth Paltrow, Kristin Chenoweth Return

by Jean Bentley, posted Jan 10th 2011 10:45AM
Justin BieberSomeone in the 'Glee' cast has contracted a very serious case of Bieber Fever -- at least we think that's what happened.

Over the weekend, conflicting reports came out about whether or not the Fox show would dedicate an entire episode to Justin Bieber. While TVLine originally wrote that the boy with the bangs would be the latest recipient of a themed episode, creator Ryan Murphy told Perez Hilton that it would only be one song. Now, Deadline is reporting that it'll be three songs. So, which is it?

Here's what we know for sure: Sam is definitely singing at least one Bieber song in an upcoming episode, but it's unclear if there will be more.

"We are doing an episode where Sam sings a JB song to win Quinn back ... and copies his hairstyle, etc. But it's a small part of a big episode that has a LOT of other things going on," Murphy told Perez Hilton.

Fallon, Gwyneth Paltrow Feign Being R&B DuoEveryone knows Gwyneth Paltrow stars (and sings) in 'Country Strong.' But did you know she and Jimmy Fallon were an early '90s R&B duo? Fallon "revealed" the proof in a hilarious music video spoof on 'Late Night' (weeknights, 12:37AM ET on NBC).

Paltrow sported giant shoulder pads and big hair, while the host acquired a Milli Vanilli look. Surprisingly, Fallon stayed in character; it was Paltrow who couldn't keep a straight face when Fallon started dancing.

"We did iiit, we did it back theeeen," sang Fallon. Gwyneth regained composure and added a very deep, "Who thought doing it could be so fun."

The Best and Worst of TV in 2010: 'Breaking Bad,' 'Modern Family,' 'Glee' and More

by Joel Keller, posted Dec 22nd 2010 5:30PM
Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston of 'Breaking Bad'During every Festivus season, we here at TV Squad reflect on what's happened during the past year in the world of the boob tube (I'll keep calling it that because "boob flat screen" doesn't flow as well).

We're in the midst of giving you our "12 Days of Festivus," my fellow Squadders have given their best and worst picks, and Mo Ryan has given what she liked and disliked this year.

So, how much more can we talk about? Plenty. 2010 was an active year in the television universe and there is plenty to talk about. As I've done in the past, I'll dispense with the usual "best show/worst show" mishegas and just make up the categories as I go along.

THE GOOD

The best season of television that almost no one saw:
The heart-attack inducing third season of 'Breaking Bad.' I've already said that the season, which ended over the summer, was the best season of dramatic television in the past decade, and it seems even better than that in retrospect.

'Glee' Season 2, Episode 7 Recap

Matthew Morrison and Gwyenth Paltrow in 'Glee' - 'The Substitute'['Glee' - 'The Substitute']

OK, it's official: Gwyneth Paltrow can do no wrong. And I'm saying that only half-ironically.

Last week, Salon had an op-ed entitled "Why do so many people hate Gwyneth Paltrow?", citing the fact that there's a backlash against the Oscar-winning star because she's rich and pretty and talented and makes no excuses for her station in life. After reading the article, I was pretty annoyed with her myself.

But it took a Little Miss Perfect to redeem what was only a half-redeemable episode of 'Glee' this week. Don't get me wrong; it was a funny episode, with many of those funny instances coming from Paltrow. But it was dragged down yet again by what seems to be 'Glee's' Achilles' heel -- inconsistent character behavior.

What to Watch: November 15 - 21

by Stephanie Earp, posted Nov 15th 2010 2:30AM
Glee - Tuesday November 16, 8PM ET/PT, Global/Fox

Every week, 'Glee' tries to sell its latest episode as a 'television event.' I haven't been buying. But this week, Gwyneth Paltrow guest stars as a substitute teacher when Will is sick. Gwyneth has been trying to make a music career happen for a while now, but she approached the enterprise with her usual subtlety. I think most people don't realize she can sing at all -- and even if she can't, that hasn't stopped her friend Madonna form making a go of it. Should be fun, watching cold fish Paltrow up against Lea the Diva.

Gwyneth Paltrow Sings Cee Lo's 'Forget You' on 'Glee' (VIDEO)

Gwyneth PaltrowTired of Gwyneth Paltrow yet? Tough, because she's singing "Forget You," a very PG version of Cee Lo Green's "F--- You," on next week's 'Glee.'

Don't be alarmed if you find yourself hating this video at first, and then come to love it. At first, I was like, "What is this? This is lame." Then I noticed Rachel's face throughout the video and realized I wasn't alone.

Then, something happened. I watched it a second time. Then a third. I'm not sure what number I'm on now, but the song has seeped its way into my brain and I cannot stop watching. I'm even humming it as I write this.

Gwyneth busts out the sassy at about 20 seconds in, then she lets her charm take over. See for yourself below.
