'Harry Potter's' Daniel Radcliffe on the Weirdest Gift He's Ever Gotten (VIDEO)
by Oliver Miller, posted Nov 22nd 2010 4:20AM
As the star of the 'Harry Potter' film series, Daniel Radcliffe has no doubt received a bunch of odd presents from fans. ... Flowers, love letters, marriage proposals, and so forth. But on 'The Graham Norton Show' (Sat., 10PM ET on BBC America), the young actor discussed the weirdest gift he's ever gotten -- which came all the way from Japan. While talking with Graham Norton, Daniel mentioned the gift of an enormous plastic novelty ear -- he got it randomly in the mail, sent courtesy of an adoring Japanese fan. Unfortunately, Radcliffe didn't know what to do with it. At first he thought the present might be an odd insult, considering the fact that he has "quite small ears." But it wasn't an insult -- and the actor eventually got to the bottom of it.
After bringing up the "plastic novelty ear" in interviews, Daniel talked about it during a Japanese press conference. Here's what happened next: "The whole place just cracked up! It was just some great Japanese joke that I hadn't been let in on!" So what was the joke?
'Magical Law': It Can't Be Any Worse Than 'Outlaw'
by Joel Keller, posted Nov 17th 2010 5:10PM

Have you watched an episode of 'The Good Wife' or any of the myriad 'Law & Order' shows and thought, "Wow, if only Detective Benson could cast a spell on that pedophile so his peep falls off. Now that would be justice!"
Well, you may have your chance. According to Joe Adalian of the Vulture blog, there's a pilot script in development at Fox that's a cross between 'Law & Order' and 'Harry Potter.' Yes, you read that right.
Called 'Magical Law,' the show would take place in a wizarding world, where we'd examine how cops and lawyers are able to police and prosecute all of those magic-wielders who are using their powers for evil instead of good (or to conjure kittens from furniture... not sure what these wizards do on their time off). No word on if the cops and lawyers would have powers themselves, but the show would be a heck of a lot more interesting if they did.
Sounds like a silly premise, right? Lawyers and cops fighting crime in the magical realm? But think about it for a second: as much of a disaster than this show sounds like it could be, it can't be any worse than a lawyer show that's already come and gone this season: NBC's "Outlaw."
Daniel Radcliffe Talks 'Harry Potter' Ending, Keeping Props (VIDEO)
by Aimee Deeken, posted Nov 16th 2010 9:10AM
The 'Harry Potter' era is nearing its end, and Daniel Radcliffe and his costars have reacted in different ways. Some get a new hairstyle; Radcliffe cried when filming ended five months ago. "We all grew up together and, you know, it's 10 years of our lives that we spent together," he said on 'Late Night' (weeknights, 12:37AM ET on NBC). "So for it now to be over is very, very weird."The actor added that with the recent promotional blitz for 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,' the grieving phase is back. (Imagine how he'll feel next year, when they'll all be promoting the final book's second movie installment.)
And of all the many props from the set, Radcliffe said he took only two things. Check the clip for the objects that will surely spark plenty of memories.
Emma Watson on Her New Haircut, Breaking Up With 'Harry Potter' (VIDEO)
by Oliver Miller, posted Nov 16th 2010 7:30AM
On the new 'Late Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), 'Harry Potter' star Emma Watson showed up to discuss life in college, and her career. The young actress is appearing in the last 'Harry Potter' film (which is divided into two parts), but a lot of other changes are also happening for her. While talking to David Letterman, Emma revealed the reason for her drastic hair change (she's hacked off her long brown locks, choosing instead a short bob). Now that the fantasy film series is ending, Ms. Watson is at a bit of a loose end (unlike her hair).
Emma told Letterman that the end of the 'Potter' fantasy series felt like a break-up, and what many girls do during a break-up is change their hairstyle. "It was sad," she said.
Daniel Radcliffe Guest Stars, as 'The Simpsons' Takes on 'Twilight' (VIDEO)
by Oliver Miller, posted Nov 8th 2010 3:21AM
'Twilight' and the 'Harry Potter' series are two of the most popular fantasy franchises in the world. But on the new 'Simpsons' (Sun., 8PM ET on Fox), Lisa Simpson showed that she wasn't a fan. In the latest installment of the 'Treehouse of Horror' series, Daniel Radcliffe guest starred as "Edmund." The 'Harry Potter' star played a vampire ... whose name and attitude resembled a character from a very famous film and book series ... Maybe you can name the character we're thinking of?
After saving Lisa from a series of accidents (just like in 'Twilight'!), Edmund offered to bite her on the neck and make her immortal. To which Lisa promptly said: No thank you.

by Oliver Miller, posted Mar 31st 2010 4:59PM
Ellen DeGeneres has not yet appeared on 'Who Do You Think You Are?' But the talk-show host has been the recipient of some research into her genealogical background. According to Ancestry.com, DeGeneres is actually related to ... pop icon Madonna. So DeGeneres played up her family tree on the latest episode of 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' (weekdays, syndicated).Watch the video after the jump.

The folks at our sister site,Cinematical, are working hard to give you news and reviews of the best -- and worst -- the silver screen has to offer. Here are some of their musings on the latest blockbusters, indies, and everything in between:
- Rhys Ifans tells you exactly what it's like to be a part of the 'Harry Potter' series. It involves Johnny Rotten and Lady Di.
- I'm still not sure whether or not 'The Runaways' is going to be great or awful, but Joan Jett gives her take on the film.
- A documentary about Forks, Washington, where the 'Twilight' franchise takes place actually sounds interesting. Unfortunately, 'Twilight in Forks; the Saga of a Real Town' is pretty much just more 'Twilight' marketing materials.
- Blockbuster has just started putting out Redbox-like DVD kiosks in front of gas stations and the like. Is that all that's going to be left of the once-great video store chain?
- Cinematical discusses Robert Pattinson and Emile de Ravin's new film, 'Remember Me,' and says that it's actually a lot better than the public is giving it credit for.

- Duck Soup is my favorite Marx Brothers Film. Cinematical shares their favorite scene from the movie: where Groucho Marx, as Rufus T. Firefly insults everyone. Check it out; it's classic.
- Did you know that back in 1983, Disney attempted to do their own version of Where The Wild Things Are? It's classic Disney animation and Cinematical has a clip of it here.
- The most explosive summer movie ever: TerminEmpireTrekAliensFormers. Summer will never be the same again.
- I'm going to see Harry Potter tonight, so in honor of its release, we have Cinematical Seven: Elisabeth's favorite Harry Potter moments.
- I really should re-read the HP books before I go and see the movies, but I don't, so this article on how Half-Blood Prince changes the book for the better was quite helpful for me.
The Twilight guy reviews the new Harry Potter movie
by Bob Sassone, posted Jul 17th 2009 11:28AM
I'm not even going to pretend that this clip is particularly funny (though I did laugh at some of the inane names of magic spells that Jimmy Fallon comes up with), but I think it's worth watching to see some of the bizarre stuff that Fallon is doing on Late Night. I've seen some of the Harry Potter movies but I haven't seen Twilight, so I'm not sure if Fallon is making references to the movie or what ("bothered?").

Merlin: The Dragon's Call (series premiere) - open thread
by Bob Sassone, posted Jun 22nd 2009 2:04PM

So...who watched Merlin last night? Is it fair or unfair to say that this was a Harry Potter-ish version of the classic tale (or, at the very least, the reason this ran on BBC and now on NBC is because of the success of the Potter books)? It's the younger years of Merlin. What did everyone think of it?

Army Wives: The Messenger
by Allison Waldman, posted Jun 23rd 2008 10:46AM
(S02E03) Army Wives is the kind of show that's not afraid to wear its heart on its sleeve, metaphorically speaking. That's what this episode was in essence. The writers weren't afraid to deal with some core themes like faith, courage, fear and bravery.Time has passed since Amanda's death, but life is not returning to normal for the Holdens. Until Claudia Joy is able to begin to heal, Michael and Emmalin will be suffering, a point driven home in this episode by the messenger. In the guise of guest star Bill Cobbs, he's not real.
At least not real in human form; he's imaginary and only Claudia Joy can see and speak with him. This is very much a dramatic device to help her see that life goes on.
