Check out Hawaiian filming locations of Lost
Here's a vacation idea that will have your family planning an intervention and your internet friends jealous: Go to Hawaii. But, don't just go to the beach. Follow the Lost trail. You can visit most Hawaiian filming locations for Lost, thanks to this nifty little website created by some uber-fans.For example, check out Hurley's golf course from Season 1 Episode 9. The fans are nice enough to take a whole slew of photos, and compare them to screen grabs from various episodes to prove that, yes, they did find the spot. They also write up a little bit about the location and about other films that were made there (Pearl Harbor, Jurassic Park and Godzilla share settings), as well as directions to the spot. Other cool locations include the place where Ana Lucia killed Goodwin, the rickety bridge in "Numbers", the waterfall where Michael goes after Walt, and the beach where Kate strips down to her bra and undies. You can search by episode or by geographical location. The guys behind the website have done a heck of a lot of scouting around and really know their episodes in order to take the photos they take. I dare you not to waste an entire afternoon on Lost Virtual Tour!
Ask TV Squad: Where can you find a list of shows with geographic names?
TV Squad reader Kat Griffith asks us this interesting question:
I am trying to find a list of TV shows that have geographic names in their titles, I know of a few but was wondering if there is a list of shows out there somewhere.
Kat, we spent many hours on Google trying to find such a list, but no luck. However, if you are interested in a list of TV show settings you may want to order a copy of TV Land: A Guide to America's Television Shrines, Sets, and Sites, which is available for sale on amazon.com.
But, you're not looking for that type of information. So, as a public service to you, and our other rabid readers, here is a list of geographically-named shows that was compiled by the equally rabid staff of TV Squad writers. The list can be found after the jump.
Evangeline Lilly's home burns down
Evangeline Lilly's rental home is a total loss. A fire gutted her home early Wednesday morning in Kailua, Hawaii. Luckily, neither Evangeline nor her two roommates were at home. Evangeline was already on the set for her last day of shooting Lost before the Christmas break.According to newspaper reports in Hawaii, neighbors heard "electrical popping sounds" just before seven this morning. Then they saw flames and the fire quickly engulfed the entire house before firefighters arrived. One neighbor even rushed into the house to see if anyone was inside, but was pushed back by black smoke (the black smoke?).
That just plain sucks. I hope A) she had insurance and B) she didn't lose anything important. I'm sure people in Hawaii are lining up to offer her a place to sleep!
*Update: Here's a photo of the burned home.
Military man is the next Bachelor
U.S. Navy Lieutenant Andy Baldwin, 30, is the next contestant on The Bachelor. It is a game show of sorts, right? For the gals who like men in uniforms, Baldwin is an "undersea medical officer for a special operations dive unit" stationed in Hawaii. Reading the press release that ABC sent us, I'm shocked that he's not taken. He probably sounds better than he is, but still. The guy saved up $25,000 for college, did his undergrad at Duke and went to medical school in California. He's a tri-athlete who competes in honor of his uncle, who died of pancreatic cancer. ABC is all excited about this new guy, dubbing the season "An Officer and a Gentleman". Sorry, no picture yet.Maybe he's just looking for a girl who can keep up with him. Hopefully they'll cast some athletic women and not just all wanna-be princesses. We'll meet Andy on the 10th season of The Bachelor on ABC next spring.
Tim Minear's Drive coming in March
Tim Minear has had a rough go of it with his post Whedonverse career. Wonderfalls and The Inside were both shut down early in the going, which is a shame because Wonderfalls was a fantastic show. I don't have a lot of hope for his current gig as Consulting Producer for Standoff either. The show just doesn't seem to be able to find an audience. But you know what they say... try try again.USA Today's Coming Attractions has a little blurb about Minear's latest project, Drive, that says it is coming in March. They refer to it as "Amazing Race meets 24." Minear adds, "There's a giant purse of money at the end, but they don't know where the end is." Other than that, most things about the show remain up in the air. Early reports had Nick Lea (X-Files, Whistler) and Ivan Sergei (Hawaii, Jack & Jill) starring in the show. However, a recent post on nicklea.com reveals that many of the roles are being recast, including Lea's and Sergei's. Even with all the confusion, it's still a Minear show. That makes it worth watching.
Lost: The Cost of Living

(S03E05) Now there's only one new episode of Lost left before a 13-week hiatus until February. The writers have answered quite a few questions in the last two episodes, but you know we're going to be left with a big, fat cliffhanger one week from tonight.
This episode had a heavy religious theme that ran through all of the storylines. In Eko's story, we come to understand how he interprets his life and that he does not see himself as a sinner, despite all the people he has killed. Eko spends the episode chasing his brother, Yemi, around the island. I think that Yemi was the black smoke, either actually taking the form of a man or causing Eko's hallucinations (he also saw the people he killed and the altar boy). During season two, in the "23rd Psalm" episode, the black smoke scans Eko and we see scenes from his life in the smoke. So, the question is: did the smoke take on alternate physical form or did it cause him to hallucinate? It did seem to admit to him that it was his brother at the end, and it may have set the tent on fire at the beginning.
Lost set, stars not damaged by earthquake
When you heard about the earthquake yesterday, did you immediately think of the cast and crew of Lost and wonder if they're OK? Yeah, me either. I thought about the people, the tourist attractions, the beautiful coastline, and the bars I've hung out in and around Waikiki.
Boston.com assures us that everyone on the set is fine, and none of the sets were damaged.
How do we know this was a natural earthquake, or even an earthquake at all? Maybe someone in one of the hatches forget to type in all the numbers in time and one of those electro-magnetic mishaps occurred?
(Note: this might be one of the very few times that the post here is much longer than the actual article we're linking to, heh.)
Charges dropped in Lost actor's traffic case
Earlier this month, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who plays Mr. Ecko on Lost, was arrested in Hawaii on charges of disobeying a police officer and driving without a license. Yesterday, in Waikiki district court, the actor's lawyer was able to get the charges dropped after proving to the court that the actor does indeed have a driver's license. Adewale spent six hours in jail and paid five hundred dollars when he was arrested, so it's not like he got off scot-free.What I want to know is if he even showed up in court. I've been to traffic court before (don't ask... I blame overzealous suburban cops... anyway, it was ten years ago), and you basically have to stand in line with every speeder, stop-sign runner, and drunk driver that's been caught over the previous week. If he was there, I wonder if anyone recognized him; he's hard to miss, considering he's a pretty big guy.
Lost fan gets behind the scenes -- VIDEO
A Lost fan named Ryan who lives in Hawaii (and used to host The Transmission podcast) keeps hunting for good behind-the-scenes video with his camcorder. He has posted a few clips on YouTube, including the filming of a flashback scene where Boone appears to be pushing Locke in his wheelchair. He also shows a few filming locations and gives some pretty informative narration. No spoilers, though. If I lived in Hawaii, I would probably be doing the same thing. Oh, it would start out innocent enough but then I'd go off the deep end. I'd probably end up losing my job and Josh Holloway would have to get a restraining order against me.
Video is after the jump.
Another arrest: Lost tailies can't drive
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who plays Mr. Eko on ABC's Lost, was arrested early Saturday morning in Waikiki, Oahu. Police charged him with disobeying a police officer and driving without a license. He spent six hours in jail before posting $500 bail. This is the third new cast member to be arrested for traffic violations. Adewale's infractions don't seem as serious as last year's drunken driving arrests of Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Watros. The two actresses played 'Ana Lucia' and 'Libby' up until the season finale when the writers killed the pair off.
I guess Bernard is next. I'm thinking he'll be busted for indecent exposure. Or hit and run, since there seems to be a traffic theme.
Something really big is about to happen on Lost
At a Lost party to celebrate the release of the second season DVD set (September 5), cast members hinted that the third season of the show will have something big happening. Daniel Dae Kim says it might have something to do with that four-toed statue we saw in last season's finale, while Terry O'Quinn says that the producers want the first six episodes to set up something really big "to keep people hanging."
I wonder if Lost fans will be disappointed in this season's schedule. The show will come back with six new episodes, then take a two month break (yes, two months), then come back with 17 straight new episodes. I think this is a good idea. The first six will whet our appetites, and then for two months we can all go online and talk about what the hell's going on. Plus there will be a ton of other new shows to watch, so I think a two month break will be fine, especially when there will be 17 uninterrupted episodes til the end of the season.
Finally! Somebody organized all the Lost theories
There are all sorts of Lost forums out there that make it really hard to stay on top of all the theories, but the highly organized folks over at LOST-Theories.com have taken the time to sift through the mayhem. They're doing it methodically and diplomatically. The theories (minor and major) are organized by episode and broken down by characters, themes, locations, and events. But wait, there's more! You can also vote on the theories that are most likely, for instance, the highest rated theory on the site right now is that the Monster (aka Security System) can read a character's mind. There's also a category for Debunked theories which, so far, only includes the theory that it's all Hurley's dream.Police arrest man for robbing Lost's Josh Holloway
The man accused of robbing Josh Holloway and his wife at their Oahu home could be going to jail for a long time. A jury indicted Ruben E. Royce, 21, with 30 felony counts for a crime spree back in October that included holding Holloway and his wife at gunpoint while he robbed their home. The robber stole money, credit cards, and Holloway's Mercedes (which he ditched a short time later). Royce was arrested less than a week after the incident, following a stand-off near an elementary school that ended with the police shooting Royce with pepper spray and rubber bullets. Royce is also accused of breaking into an apartment near the University of Hawaii where, when tenants blocked the door, he shot into the apartment to get inside. Yikes! That's one bad dude.Wedding, funeral for Duane 'Dog' Chapman
Duane 'Dog' Chapman, star of A&E's Dog the Bounty Hunter, married his longtime companion yesterday on Hawaii's Big Island. The couple decided to go ahead with their planned nuptials despite the death of one of Chapman's daughters, Katy Chapman, who died the day before in a car crash in Fairbanks, Alaska. She was only 23 years old.Chapman says he gathered his remaining 10 children, including two he has with new wife Beth Smith, to discuss whether to go on with the wedding. They decided to go ahead- making the wedding a celebration of the couple and of Katy's life.
Making an awkward transition... 'Dog' wore white jeans to match his white vest and boots in the ceremony. The wedding airs August 8th on A&E.
Michelle Rodriguez freed from jail -- UPDATE
Michelle Rodriguez, aka 'Ana Lucia' on Lost,
was freed from a Honolulu women's jail on Friday. She spent most of this week there after pleading guilty to drunk
driving charges. Rodriguez opted for the jail time, rather than 240 hours of community service because, she said,
autograph hounds would hassle her if she did work hours. Did she mean 'taunt'? The warden of the women's prison said
she watched TV and read during her stay. Now, she went to jail on Tuesday. And she got out on Friday. If you're doing the math and wondering how that equals five days... stop counting on your fingers, because it doesn't. Honolulu police waived one day of incarceration for time already served. She was held in custody for a bit when she was originally arrested back in December and, apparently, that counted as one day served.
Next up for Michelle is a movie called Grapefruit Moon and (possibly) another season on Lost.
