New TV on DVD Releases This Week

by Bob Sassone, posted Feb 1st 2010 6:03PM
The Price Is Right logoHere are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

It's not every week that you see four different DVD sets for game shows released, but that's what we have this week: "Best Of" sets for 'The Price is Right', 'Password', and 'Match Game '73', as well as a special set for the Richard Dawson 'Family Feud' episodes. I actually might buy the first three (not really a big 'Family Feud' guy). Having DVDs for classic episodes of those three game shows might be fun.

I'd like to see someone come out with a sampler DVD set of short-lived game shows or even well-known game shows that will never get their own full sets.

  • 'Batman: The Brave and the Bold' - Vol. 3
  • 'Beverly Hills, 90210' - Season 9
  • 'Doctor Who' - The End of Time, The Waters of Mars, and The Complete Specials
  • 'Dynasty' - Season 4, Vol. 2

What to Watch Friday, April 24

Ghost Whisperer'Ghost Whisperer'
(8PM, CBS)
The show has been quite the soap opera itself this season, but Melinda gets a more direct link to the young and the restless – and 'The Young and the Restless' – when a soap opera shoot hits Grandview.

When one of the show's former stars haunts the taping and wreaks havoc on the production, Melinda has to intervene, providing assistance to the ghost and a bit of corporate synergy for CBS, as 'Y&R' stars Thad Luckinbill and Amelia Heinle (real-life marrieds whose 'Y&R' characters are also married to each other) guest star.

Meanwhile, in the sudsy drama that is Melinda's own life, she gets a sweet little bundle of news that will lead to a big event for her and Jim.

Friday Night Lights'Friday Night Lights'
(9PM, NBC)
Several dramas that have been brewing for weeks explode in yet another smartly written, superbly acted episode of 'FNL': An accident with his grandma forces Matt to admit he needs his mom's help in caring for his granny, while Riggins is uncharacteristically unselfish in order to help Lyla snap out of her self-destructive funk and Tyra gets some much-needed confidence boosting from her mom.

But it's beleaguered J.D. McCoy whose situation takes a turn for the worse.

The QB's dad has belittled his beaten down son all season, and when the teen finally stands up to the old man, the senior McCoy crosses the line from screaming creep to physical abuser.

Battlestar Galactica'Battlestar Galactica'
(9PM, Sci Fi) series finale
Is the end of the series the end for the humans and Cylons? Mmmm, could be, as 'BSG' creator Ron Moore has promised that the finale of his instant classic sci-fi remake will leave fans reeling.

We know from last week's part one of the finale that Adama (Edward James Olmos) had rounded up volunteers for what he warned was likely a one-way mission: Taking the failing Galactica to Cavil's hangout to try and bring back young Hera.

Moore and several series stars have also said the finale focuses on the beloved 'BSG' characters, and that the episode won't end with all their stories tied up neatly. As if we'd expect anything less from the Peabody and Emmy Award-winning drama.

The Simpsons season eight out August 15

by Adam Finley, posted May 12th 2006 12:06PM

homer simpsonWell, it's time to start shifting all my DVDs over again to make room for yet another Simpsons collection. According to TVShowsOnDVD (via ToonZone), the eighth season of the show will be out on August 15. Like the last two sets, this one will also come in a "head case," this time shaped like Maggie's head. If you're like me and prefer something more "shelf friendly" you can also purchase the less fancy regular-shaped box.
