The CW Renews 'One Tree Hill,' 'Nikita,' Cancels 'Hellcats'

by Jean Bentley, posted May 17th 2011 4:45PM
One Tree HillThe residents of Tree Hill will have one more season to wrap up their stories.

The CW has picked up veteran soap 'One Tree Hill' for a 13-episode ninth (and presumably final) season. The network has also given freshman drama 'Nikita' the green light for a second season. Unfortunately, that means The CW's other bubble show, 'Hellcats,' is no more.

With the exception of James Lafferty, the entire 'OTH' cast has signed on for next year, though a source told Zap2It that the actor will likely return for at least a few episodes in a guest-starring capacity.

'Nikita,' which saw a creative upswing toward the end of season 1, will get another year to tell the story of Nikita's quest to bring down Division.

EXCLUSIVE: 'Hellcats' Gets Anti-Bullying Message to Larger Audience (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Apr 25th 2011 3:15PM
Tyler Wilson on the set of 'Hellcats'11-year-old Ohio native Tyler Wilson became national news back in September when he was bullied at school for wanting to be a cheerleader. Apparently the other kids thought that was worthy of a beating that led to a broken arm for Tyler.

Bullying certainly isn't a new issue in schools, but it's getting more attention lately, as big-name celebrities are speaking out against it.

When Tyler's story made headlines, the cast of The CW's 'Hellcats' made a PSA reminding kids that it's their right to be whatever they want to be; they even invited Tyler to the show's set to see some tough TV cheerleaders, male and female, in action.

AOL TV is proud to share this exclusive behind-the-scenes video of Tyler's visit to Vancouver, including anti-bullying messages from stars Aly Michalka, Matt Barr, Heather Hemmens and Robbie Jones; Tyler learning some moves from the show's choreographer; and a sneak peek of the scenes he got to be a part of in this week's episode, 'Before I Was Caught' (airs Tuesday, April 26, 9PM ET on The CW).

Ashley Tisdale Tells Rachael Ray About 'Hellcats' Stunts (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Apr 19th 2011 5:40PM
Ashley Tisdale on 'Rachael Ray'Ashley Tisdale plays a cheerleader on CW's 'Hellcats,' which sometimes requires her to risk breaking a bone or two. On today's 'Rachael Ray' (weekdays, syndicated), Tisdale talked about doing some of her stunts, even if it scares both her and her producers.

Tisdale said she does have a double, but she tried to do as much as she can because she likes "to give it one hundred percent." One "Flying V" she did midseason did give her a bit of a fright. "It was pretty crazy," said Tisdale. "A base just through me up in the air, caught me by my feet, and then even pushed me up on one leg and I had my arms up. It was the scariest thing I've ever done."

Ray asked if Tisdale knew how many things she could break by doing that. Tisdale said she knew, and that her producers "were freaking out as well."

'Hellcats' Star Aly Michalka On Which Guy She'd Choose, Sister AJ Guest-Starring & More (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Jan 24th 2011 5:15PM
Aly Michalka, Hellcats'Hellcats' cheerleader Marti Perkins is the kind of character I often hate to love, but I just can't help myself, mostly because star Aly Michalka is so good playing her.

I caught up with Michalka to talk about this week's big return (Tues., Jan. 25, 9PM ET on The CW). After some major drama before the holidays, Marti's friendships and her more-than-friendships are in big trouble. So where do we find her? And how soon before she and Savannah (Ashley Tisdale) are back to normal?

And you superfans will be excited to know that Aly clearly chooses the guy she wants Marti to be with -- Dan or Lewis -- but do you agree with her choice? She also teases her sister AJ's guest stint on 'Hellcats,' why playing music toghether will make sense on the show and, yes, what songs we'll hear them singing.

Wendy Williams Is Very Impressed With Robbie Jones' Shoe Size (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Dec 8th 2010 2:35PM
Robbie Jones shows off his big feet to Wendy WilliamsRobbie Jones today helped demonstrate the old axiom of how the size of a man's foot relates to the size of the catcalls he receives from a studio audience. The actor, known for his work on the shows 'One Tree Hill' and 'Hellcats,' talked about how his feet grew quicker than the rest of him on 'The Wendy Williams Show' (Weekdays, Syndicated).

"I was the child with the huge feet," he said. "I was like ten years old wearing a size ten, eleven, twelve, all the way to fourteen." He then slapped his boot up on the table to show Williams and the audience, prompting cheers and an approving look from the host.

"That is a big foot, Robbie," said Williams, smiling. Jones asked her what she was trying to say. "Nothing," she said. "Just checking you out." Williams then revealed she also has gargantuan feet, saying she wears a size eleven/twelve, and asked Jones if he liked tall women.

Jones indicated he was also indeed impressed with Wendy's feet, and his being impressed then impressed the audience, who cheered again, creating a feedback loop that scientists are now working on harnessing to solve the oil crisis.

Matt Barr On His 'Hellcats' Character, Dan: 'He's a Good Ol' Salt-of-the-Earth Type of Guy'

by Jean Bentley, posted Nov 17th 2010 5:35PM
Matt Barr on 'Hellcats'As Dan, the everyman BFF of cheerleader Marti on The CW's 'Hellcats,' Matt Barr is finally playing a character his mother approves of.

After a stint on 'One Tree Hill' playing an attempted rapist who holds two high school girls hostage on prom night, Barr's family is happy to watch him play a normal character again. "My family likes 'Hellcats,'" Barr said when he phoned TV Squad last week during a break from filming his hit show. "They're like 'Oh, we can actually watch you.'"

Far from the heavy issues plaguing 'OTH''s "psycho" Derek, Dan's major problems on 'Hellcats' are mostly of the girl-related variety. Stuck in a juicy love triangle between his free-spirited childhood best friend, Marti, and her religious roommate, Savannah, Dan has some major decision-making to do.

Read on to find out who Barr's rooting for in the Marti-Savannah-Dan love triangle, his admiration for Bear Grylls, and why the name Matt Barr is now synonymous with "murderer rapist pedophile."

Aly MichalkaWhen you're one half of a Platinum-selling band (with your little sister, no less), the hilarious sidekick in the box office's hottest new comedy ('Easy A'), and star of a TV series that requires you to learn complex cheerleading routines every single week, there's not very much down time.

'Hellcats' Series Premiere - Marti Is Naked and Trapped, But Lewis Saves Her (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Sep 9th 2010 9:20AM
'Hellcats' Series Premiere - Marti Is Naked and Trapped, But Lewis Saves HerThe new series 'Hellcats' (Wed., 9PM ET on CW) is set in the world of collegiate cheerleading. Think of it as being like 'Glee' (but without the singing) mixed with 'Bring It On' (except that it takes place in college). On the first episode, Marti Perkins (Alyson Michalka) arrives for her freshman year at Lancer College. Marti has a pre-law scholarship -- but then, through a series of misfortunes, she loses her student funding.

Now, Marti needs to get a new scholarship ... and the only way to do that is to join the "Hellcats" -- the school's competitive cheerleading squad. While this might be bad news for Marti, it's good news for us viewers. Because without this little plot twist, we'd be stuck watching Marti take four years worth of legal training courses. But instead, we get a show about sexy, sexy cheerleaders. Yay!

[Spoiler alert.]
