Things I Hate About TV: Designers' Challenge on HGTV
by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 22nd 2010 8:00PM
I went through a very long period when I was rather addicted to the design and makeover shows on HGTV. I loved shows like Design on a Dime and Divine Design and that show where the woman shows you how to take an old hobby horse and recondition it so it can be used as a wine rack. I don't watch them half as much as I used to, but I still like them. They're shows that actually show us how we can redo our rooms and homes easily and without spending a ton of money. I find shows like that useful. I might not do exactly what the hosts say, but they always give me ideas for something I might want to do in my own place.
I can't say that same about Designers' Challenge though. I think this might be the worst show on HGTV, and here's why.
TLC premieres Hope for Your Home
by Kristin Sample, posted Aug 3rd 2008 9:02AM
TLC is adding to their real estate reality slate once again with Hope for Your Home. The show, hosted by Kristen Kemp Becker (Property Ladder) will feature families who are trying unsuccessfully to sell their homes. Each half-hour episode will showcase one family facing tough financial circumstances. Kemp Becker will advise the family as to what improvements they can make, a contractor will help them make said improvements, and a real estate agent will come in after and assess the home's value and how quickly it could sell. While Hope for Your Home sounds informative (especially for families looking to make cost-efficient changes to their properties), it sounds really boring. I find Extreme Home Makeover annoying but at least we get a bunch of quirky personalities ("quirky" is probably the most generous adjective I could think of) and we get "extreme" changes to the homes. It's interesting to see how the team does a complete overhaul on the house. This show? I'm not so sure. What do you think?
Hope for Your Home premieres on Saturday August 9th, at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT.
Sears eyes Pennington
by Adam Finley, posted Mar 4th 2006 10:59AM
This should probably come as no surprise to anyone, but Sears is giving serious
consideration to kicking Bob Vila to the curb after sixteen years and bringing in magniloquent hugmonster Ty
Pennington. Chris, over at our pal Ad Jab,
picked up on this tidbit. The company and its Craftsman tools are already heavily associated with Pennington's
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. However, Sears has not made any definite plans to sign Pennington on as a
spokesman for their Craftsman line of tools. Speculation is that he may be a bit too "touchy-feely" for that
particular product line.
