'Hung' - 'Mind Bullets: Bang Bang Bang Bang ... ' Recap

by Dr. Ryan Vaughan, PhD (no, seriously), posted Jul 19th 2010 6:30AM
(S02E03) The latest installment of 'Hung' kept up the tradition of exploring the human condition through the complications that arise when the power struggle within the world's oldest profession is turned on its ear and dropped on its head. Basically, what happens to people -- more psychologically than physically -- when they enter into the flesh trade to rebuild their house that burned down and/or give themselves a smidgen of self-worth. You know: Every kid's dream.

Ray and Jessica's kids (Darby and Damon) emerge again to shine a light onto their parents' shortcomings as people. Despite the weird "if you weren't my sister, I'd try to get to third base with you ... but what the hell, I still might" vibe that is developing between Darby and Damon, they are proving to be the conscience of the show, at least for their parents.

'Hung' - 'Great Sausage or Can I Call You Dick?' Recap

by Dr. Ryan Vaughan, PhD (no, seriously), posted Jul 12th 2010 2:40PM
Hung(S02E02) Before I even get started, I feel the need to state that 'Hung' deserves bonus points for setting the show in Detroit. It's fittingly ballsy.

This week's episode delves deeper into the male psyche than I think most people are comfortable with, only because we're not used to delving into the male psyche. Most of us assume men don't think about anything outside of food, sex, trucks and Seagal movies, but Ray (Thomas Jane) has been doing a lot more thinking than laying pipe.

(Side note: my biggest challenge with these recaps is to find new and exciting euphemisms for the F-bomb.)

Ray Lies About Pregnancy Sex on 'Hung' (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Jun 28th 2010 8:00AM
Lies About Pregnancy Sex on 'Hung'Ray's acting (and lying) abilities are in full force on 'Hung' (Sun., 10:30PM ET on HBO) when his very pregnant client looks to him for some self-assurance. "Are you somehow like freaked out by me -- I mean the pregnant aspect of things?" she asks.

"No, no, that's ... cool," he says calmly. He assures her he's slept with "a lot" of pregnant women before, and liked it "a lot."

OK, so he's not exactly verbose in his praise of her and the situation at hand. But it does the trick. "OK, well that makes me feel better about it," she says. "Maybe it was all in my head. Because in your head ... it's all clear?"

"Totally, totally clear," says Ray. But that's not at all what is going through his head...

'Hung' - 'Just the Tip' Recap (Season Premiere)

Hung: Just the Tip
(S02E01) "Not to be mean, mom, but you just seem like a totally lost person to me." - Darby to Jessica

I was just about to say that things are looking pretty bleak for everyone in Ray's world -- including Ray. But maybe I'm looking at things the wrong way. Maybe we just need to see the good things happening here. Yeah, things aren't so bad, after all.

'Hung' is the Best Show on Television ... About Dicks

by Dr. Ryan Vaughan, PhD (no, seriously), posted Jun 25th 2010 5:00PM
Hung
With so many shows about male genitalia ('The Bachelorette,' 'Entourage,' 'Cake Boss') it's difficult to sift through them all and find the cream of the crop. Well, sift no longer because HBO's 'Hung' blows them all away ... and if you're waiting for a third penis pun, here it is: The show is kind of weird when you first see it, but when you realize what it's trying to do, it feels good.

HBO Sets Return Dates for 'Hung,' 'Entourage'

by Mike Moody, posted Apr 23rd 2010 4:00PM
hbo hungHBO has announced return premiere dates for two of its popular dude-friendly shows. Both 'Hung' and 'Entourage' are slated to return Jun. 27, following vamp camp fest 'True Blood,' which heads back to the cable network on Jun. 13, according to the Live Feed.

The shows will fill the Sunday 10PM time slot now occupied by David Simon's 'Treme,' which wraps its first season this summer.

'Hung' season 2 is expected to explore the new dynamic between Ray (Thomas Jane), Tanya (Jane Adams) and Lenore (Rebecca Creskoff).

'Entourage' star Adrian Grenier recently promised that fans would see a different side of Hollywood pretty boy Vinnie Chase in the show's upcoming seventh season.

"They're going to get a whole new Vince this year," Grenier told the Hollywood Reporter earlier this month. "He's grappling with life and death circumstances."

Sounds like a big change from the character's previous dilemmas, which usually involved choosing between the blonde or the brunette.

MTV Makes a Date with 'The Hard Times of RJ Berger'

by Jason Hughes, posted Mar 16th 2010 9:00PM
'The Hard Times of RJ Berger'
Now that MTV has rebranded their network, losing the "Music" in their name and ditching "Gen-Xers" for good (it still stings ... we made you, MTV! We made you!), they're ready to start expanding their roster to resemble the more traditional cable networks. First up, it's MTV's first single-camera comedy ... ever!

For this groundbreaking first, they're going with an all-original concept: 'Hung, Jr.' 'The Hard Times of RJ Berger.' Premiering June 6 at 11 PM ET, or whenever the 'MTV Movie Awards' wrap, 'Berger' tells the story of the titular character who has developed a rather impressive "gift," according to The Hollywood Reporter. After the premiere, the series will settle into its regular Mondays at 10 PM ET slot, beginning June 14.

Sons of Anarchy, Charlie Hunnam as Jax TellerThis year offered plenty of hot and steamy TV moments, but some of the best featured hunky, half-naked guys. It was like an instant party for all of us female viewers out here, whether you're into sexy vampires, rough-gem bikers, or scrappy high school football players.

But rather than savor these moments all by ourselves, we've put together a round-up to share them with the world. Although they're numbered from one to 10, we think all of these guys are equally sexy. See if you agree with our choices.

Most Improved TV Shows: 10 Bad Shows That Got Better

by Gary Susman, posted Oct 21st 2009 5:00PM
Amy Poehler When it debuted last spring, 'Parks and Recreation' already seemed in need of some urban renewal. Sure, Amy Poehler was funny, but the rest of the ensemble didn't gel around her, the plotting was listless and the jokes fell flat.

In its second season, however, the writing has become sharper, the pacing has gathered steam and Poehler's bureaucrat with delusions of grandeur has become someone to sympathize with and root for.

'Parks' deserves a ribbon for improving on a rocky start; after all, few shows that stumble out of the gate are able to recover their footing and race to the forefront. Here are nine more that did ...

Hung: "A Dick and a Dream" or "Fight the Honey" (season finale)

by Jonathan Toomey, posted Sep 14th 2009 1:20AM
Thomas Jane in the season one finale of 'Hung.'
(S01E10) "You're afraid of flies or something?" - Ray

All season long on Hung, there's been one lingering question. We knew it from the moment we met Tanya, and it was solidified in last night's season finale when she sat on her couch, in dirty sweat pants, reading The Power of Positive Thinking, only to run away terrified at the sight of numerous flies. One lingering question and finally, Ray is asking it too.

What the hell made Tanya think she'd make a good pimp?
