'In Plain Sight' Gets Renewed for One More Season

by Maggie Furlong, posted Aug 11th 2011 7:30PM
Mary McCormack, 'In Plain Sight''In Plain Sight' will be back for more ... but not too much more. USA announced today that it has renewed the series for a fifth and final season.

Sound like good news? Well it sort of is, but if you think about it, it's really just a very nice way of saying the show has been canceled. Plus, since the network gave the show an additional two-season pick-up last year, this isn't exactly news either.

What is news is that Season 5 will be a shortened swan song for the show, with only eight episodes ordered to wrap up the series instead of the usual 13. Season 5 is set to air next spring.

The news comes just days after the show's Season 4 finale aired earlier this week.

Freeze! Order in the Court! Our 11 Favorite Legal Ladies on TV

by Maggie Furlong, posted Jul 7th 2011 12:30PM
Rizzoli & IslesThere are plenty of law-abiding characters on TV, but we're particularly fond of the ladies who wield badges and shout "objection!" in courtrooms to keep our airwaves safe.

With the return of 'Rizzoli & Isles' (Season 2 premieres Mon., July 11, 10PM ET on TNT) -- where stars Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander battle Boston bad guys as a detective and medical examiner team -- we salute those cops and lawyers who help maintain law and order (some of them are even on 'Law & Order') on TV.

Of course, all of the current TV cops on our list have some iconic legal ladies to thank, including 'Police Woman''s Pepper Anderson (Angie Dickinson); Claudette Wyms (CCH Pounder) on 'The Shield'; and the dynamic duo of 'Cagney & Lacey' (Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly), just to name a few.

And we can't forget their legal counterparts either, with beloved barristers like Susan Dey's Grace van Owen on 'L.A. Law'; Sarah McKenzie (Catherine Bell) on 'JAG'; the ladies of 'Boston Legal,' 'The Practice' and 'Ally McBeal'; Markie Post's Christine Sullivan on 'Night Court'; and Harmon herself, as 'Law & Order''s ADA Abbie Carmichael.

These pros all helped pave the moral way for what's now one of the most popular professions for women on TV. Here, 11 of our current favorite female TV cops and lawyers.

Mary Reconnects, All the Way, With Her Ex-Husband on 'In Plain Sight' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 6th 2011 5:31AM
'In Plain Sight' - 'Second Crime Around'If Marshall's into Mary, as we all know he is on 'In Plain Sight' (Sun., 10PM ET on USA), he might be second-guessing his desire to meet her five-day husband from high school. That "double date" dinner led to Mark and Mary rekindling at least the physical part of their relationship back at her place.

Unfortunately for Mark, though, physical is all it was for Mary. She's just not ready to jump back into something more real, even if she is just the kind of amazing woman he'd love to rekindle things with.

Mark was a lot of fun as their tryst unfolded. We loved the bit where he told her he still had a dancer's body ("You're welcome"), but the best was when he stopped and asked, "What if your mom busts in again?"

EXCLUSIVE Casting Scoop: Joel Gretsch Headed to 'In Plain Sight'

by Maggie Furlong, posted May 18th 2011 6:45PM
Joel GretschWe're OK with the passing of 'V,' but honestly, I'm not quite ready to lose Joel Gretsch on my TV.

I've loved him since 'The 4400' and every sci-fi fan will agree that he deserves another great show.

Luckily, he won't be gone too long -- while Gretsch hasn't been snagged for any new series (yet), he has booked a guest spot on USA's 'In Plain Sight,' and AOL TV has the exclusive details on his sexy new role.

Later this summer, on Sunday, July 10 (10PM ET on USA), Gretsch will appear as Provo in an episode titled 'Provo-cation.' No aliens to be found and not a priest collar in sight, but it sounds steamy, doesn't it?

Brandi Struggles to Gain the Trust of Peter's Parents on 'In Plain Sight' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 2nd 2011 4:56AM
'In Plain Sight' - 'The Art of the Steal'There's bad timing and then there's what happened on to Peter on the season premiere of 'In Plain Sight' (Sun., 10PM ET on USA). After his parents tried to present Brandi with a pre-nuptial agreement to protect the family assets, Peter got indignant and started speech-ifying.

The parents tried to argue it wasn't personal. It was just business. And after all, she does have that shady past.

"it's not just about business when you say you don't trust my fiance," Peter said. "And by extension you don't trust me."

"Brandy's never done anything to betray your trust," he said later in the speech, and that's when it all went awry, as the police showed up to take Brandi into custody regarding a case of stolen cars.

Ryan Murphy, GleeThem's fightin' words: 'Glee' creator Ryan Murphy and Kings of Leon drummer Nathan Followill got into a war of words today after Murphy made like Cee Lo and said "Forget you" (the unedited version) to the band for not allowing 'Glee' to use their music on the show.

"Dear Ryan Murphy, let it go. See a therapist, get a manicure, buy a new bra," tweeted the drummer, according to Vulture.

Mary's Shocking Hotel Romp on 'In Plain Sight' Season 3 Finale (VIDEO)

Mary's Hotel Romp on 'In Plain Sight' Season 3 FinaleSteven Weber's FBI Agent Mike Faber returned to 'In Plain Sight' (Wed., 10PM ET on USA) for the season 3 finale -- in a most unexpected way.

[Spoiler alert.]

As Mary settles into a hotel room in Mexico, she flirts with the cute room-service guy. He asks, "May I interest you in a drink before dinner -- champagne or a sex on the beach?" She's intrigued by the innuendo but replies, "Get back to me when you've taken your SATs." She looks him up and down.

As he leaves, Faber walks out of the bathroom in a towel. He chides her for flirting with the "cabana boy" and picks up the bottle of wine, saying, "I think this has had enough time to breathe, don't you?"

"I can't believe I'm in Mexico with a guy who lets his drinks breathe." Neither can we.

Eight TV Characters Who Should be Dads

Chuck Bartowski of 'Chuck' -- one of 8 TV characters whou should be a father. In the years of TV Squad's existence, we have covered a number television dad categories for Father's Day. Including good dads, bad dads, single dads, cartoon dads, dads that should be women and TV dads that should be in porn.

One thing we haven't covered is TV characters that actually should be dads, but aren't. Though nary a son or daughter among them -- that they know of -- there are a number of characters in various shows who would make better fathers than the already established patriarchs. In alphabetical order, here are a few potential dads of note.

Five Troubled TV Moms

by Allison Waldman, posted May 8th 2010 11:04AM
united_states_of_tara_family_portrait_showtimeRemember how good things were for June Cleaver and Harriet Nelson? Yes, those TV moms had the good life, and troubles were easily solved without much muss or fuss. Sure, that was another century, and the mothers on today's television shows, even the sitcoms, don't have all the answers. Some, in fact, are quite troubled. Here's a look at a few current TV moms who definitely can be called troubled. Troubled in their daily lives with themselves and their families. For these five ladies, Mother's Day may be the one day of the year when things go right. Maybe ...

1. Tara Gregson, 'United States of Tara' There is no more trouble mother on this list than Tara, and her united states are not particularly united at all. She suffers from dissociative identity disorder and has a group of altars who take over her life without warning. This makes it pretty hard for Tara to be the loving wife of Max and mom to Kate and Marshall. The fact that they all adore her and try to live with Tara and the others -- Alice, T, Buck, Gimme, Shoshana -- is a testament to the love that this family enjoys. But that doesn't mean they're not dysfunctional or that Tara's disease has taken its toll on all of them. There's no telling whether Mother's Day is even something the Gregsons can imagine in a traditional way.
