Idol for instrumentalists

Sure you can sing, but can you play the trombone?
America's Hot Musician, a new reality series set to air in early 2007 through a "coordinated cable network/paid programming schedule," is planned as an instrumental version of American Idol (though it has no relation to the show). The American Youth Symphony and its artistic director, Gregory Charles Royal, are behind the show, which was created in response to what some feel is a rise in "sampling" (especially in hip-hop) and a lack of interest in real instrumental performance. Registration for the show kicks off later this month on the show's Web site.
