'Project Runway' Winner Season 6 Is Irina Shabayeva
by Kim Potts, posted Nov 20th 2009 10:43AM
In last night's season finale of 'Project Runway,' the show wrapped its first season in Los Angeles, wrapped its first season on Lifetime and, to pretty much no one's surprise, named New York designer Irina Shabayeva the season six winner.Shabayeva, who'd been portrayed as a hard-working, driven and, according to some of her fellow designers, sometimes less-than-friendly competitor, was the only designer to win three challenges during the season, and had wowed the judges and viewers with her slick, well-tailored looks, including what had become her signature, lavish coats and sweaters.
Shabayeva took time out from celebrating her victory to chat with AOL TV about her victory, about those fabulous hats that were a highlight of her winning collection, about the ever-changing line-up of judges the designers had to deal with this season, about what she's up to now (hint: lots of coats) and about how she feels about being portrayed as the designer who wasn't there to make friends ...
Review: Project Runway - Finale Part 2 (Season Finale)

(S06E14) It's finally the end of Project Runway season six, and Carol Hannah, Althea, and Irina get to show off their looks. The three were evenly matched with a solid concept, good models, and similar makeup consultations. I've been disappointed with the way this season turned out after its long hiatus, and I'm hoping that next season's return to New York will be better. In the end, I got the reunion show I was wondering about, in the form of Models of the Runway. It was the weirdest use of Project Runway's footage because the models didn't have any involvement in many of the videos.

(S06E13) Project Runway's part one of their finale episodes are always boring. This episode was no exception. We learn more about the hopefuls' backgrounds, peek at their final collection, Tim critiques them, they come to New York, and get some bombshell in one form or another.
This year's bomb is recycled from season two: a last minute thirteenth piece with the help of an eliminated contestant. This time, the muse model picks their final model.
The first half of the show was all about watching Tim in awkward situations: struggling to use a freight elevator, baking biscuits, and interacting with dogs.

(S06E12) It's the trend for most contestants on Project Runway to cave during the final challenge; this season was no exception. This season's final challenge was to be inspired by the Getty museum. The contestants had two days and $300 to design the dress.
Inspiration:
Althea - Overall Architecture
Christopher - Rock Fountain
Irina - Mischief and Repose by Godward.
Gordana - Rouen Cathedral by Monet
Carol Hannah - Bed - French, Paris (circa 1775 - 1780)
There was so much to be inspired by in the Getty Center, and I feel like the show rushed its way through.
Review: Project Runway - Best of the Best

(S06E11) Project Runway finally explained why different people won challenges this season instead of just Irina and Althea winning all of them. This week's challenge was to make a companion piece to the contestants' winning looks. Unfortunately, Logan has never won a challenge. With one day and $100, they had to make it work.
On paper, the challenge sounds like an interesting way of thinking of cohesive collections. Most of these designers have an aesthetic (Carol Hannah doesn't like pants, Christopher likes full skirts). For Gordana, Christopher, and Logan, the companion pieces that they made neither complimented, nor improved on their original outfits.
Meet the new Project Runway designers

I've been so busy feeling mildly annoyed and super-confused about Bravo's The Fashion Show, the "real" Project Runway has almost completely slipped my mind. Coverage has been shaky, and every time I try to find out something new, Isaac Mizrahi's hair obstructs my view and I give up. What I know is that the next season of the show will air on Lifetime and, thank whatever supernatural entity is responsible for reason and rhyme in fashion, Tim Gunn will be there. Oh, and Heidi Klum too.
Now, we can get to know some more faces in this new era for the program. Meet the new Project Runway designers.
