'Dancing With the Stars' Week 6: Maks & Len Have a Major Fallout

by Crystal Bell, posted Oct 24th 2011 11:40PM
Oh Maks, sometimes you need to really hold in your feisty temper. Maks definitely brought the drama to 'Dancing With the Stars' this week -- but not in the way you're probably thinking. In fact, I don't think anyone saw this coming.

Maks and Len had a total fall-out in the ballroom this week, after Len criticized Hope, calling her rumba "her worst dance of the whole season." Well, Maks didn't quite like that and riled up the already cheering crowd, interrupting Len's critique. That's when Len snapped.

You see, Len gets the reputation for being the most critical judge for a reason. He actually judges for skill, and as he pointed out, he's been doing it for quite some time now. And that's where Maks decided to tell Len that maybe it was time for him to quit. His exact words: "Maybe it's time to go!" Oh snap.

'Dancing With the Stars' Week 5: Ricki's Roger Rabbit Flops, J.R. Shines

by Crystal Bell, posted Oct 17th 2011 11:20PM
Ricki Lake & Derek go '80sIt was '80s night on 'Dancing With the Stars' this week and that meant big hair, big shoulder pads, acid brights, a guest performance by The Bangles and ... Roger Rabbit?

The seemingly unstoppable Ricki Lake didn't look so smooth doing the Roger Rabbit this week, even after some encouragement from surprise guest, filmmaker John Waters, who gave Ricki her big break in 1988's 'Hairspray.'

Unfortunately, Ricki just couldn't find the beat this week, and that definitely hurt her scores. After scoring two 10s last week for her thrilling 'Psycho' tango and being atop the leaderboard for three weeks in a row, Ricki dropped the ball this week, only scoring a 24 and losing her top spot to J.R. Martinez.

J.R. Martinez Talks About What Happened in Iraq, and His Recovery (VIDEO)

Zooey Deschanel & J.R. Martinez, 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno'J.R. Martinez has managed to come back from a near-fatal explosion in Iraq and go on to star in a daytime soap opera and is now competing on 'Dancing With the Stars.' He talked about what happened to him in Iraq, and the two-and-a-half year recovery that came after, on 'The Tonight Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC).

One of the hardest things for him was coming out of the coma and seeing his body for the first time; he suffered severe burns on 40 percent of his body. Only 19 years old at the time, he recalled, "Coming out of a coma and seeing your body for the first time and thinking to myself, how am I ever gonna get a beautiful girl?"

Top 5 Clips of the Week: Rooney's Final 'Few Minutes,' Lilly's Gassy Past & More (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 8th 2011 12:30PM

Our favorite TV clips from this week ran the full gamut of emotions, and were filled with contradictions. J.R. Martinez's 'Dancing With the Stars' tribute to fallen soldiers was uplifting and emotional, a solid rebound after the horror of last week's Nancy Grace nip slip. Andy Rooney's '60 Minutes' sign-off was grumpily sincere, while Evangeline Lilly's story about farting on an airplane passenger was gross but oddly charming.

Meanwhile, Snooki throwing wine bottles at the Situation was, like most things that happen on 'Jersey Shore,' sadly entertaining. Finally, Hank Williams Jr. comparing President Obama to Hitler ... well, that was just absurd and unoriginal.

Check out the clips after the jump and vote for your personal favorite in our weekly poll.

J.R. Martinez's emotionally-charged 'Dancing With the Stars' routine was the highlight of the competition this week. Martinez, who was injured in a humvee accident while serving in Iraq, stopped by 'Access Hollywood Live' (weekdays, syndicated on NBC) to talk about what the performance, which he dedicated soldiers who didn't make it home from the war, meant to him.

"Everyone looks at me now and they say, 'he's doing so well, he's so positive and always smiling,' but they see a somewhat the finished product. A lot of people don't know about the regret, the anger, depression, and the 33 surgeries I went through," Martinez said. Explaining his tears, he said, "For me, it was sad to remember those days, but at the same time, it was tears of joy to be proud of how far I've come."

J.R. Martinez on 'Good Day LA'J.R. Martinez has traveled a long road in the past eight years. He's gone from suffering major burns on his body and face as a U.S. Army soldier serving in Iraq to acting on 'All My Children' and then, to 'Dancing With the Stars.' Martinez stopped by 'Good Day LA' (weekdays, 9AM PT on Fox) to talk about how he wound up on the dance competition show and how he thinks he'll do.

Martinez had considered 'Dancing With the Stars' before 'All My Children' was canceled in April, and after the cancelation, he made a few phone calls. "I talked to a couple of friends of mine and they said, no, it really would be a great opportunity for you, and we think you'd do great on it," he said.

Kathie Lee and Hoda Talk About the New 'Dancing With the Stars' Cast (VIDEO)

The cast of 'Dancing With the Stars' on 'Today'Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb followed the buzz about the new cast of 'Dancing With the Stars' by giving their own rundown on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC). Nancy Grace Explains How Michael Jackson Helped Her Say 'Yes' to 'Dancing With the Stars'

by Michael Maloney, posted Aug 30th 2011 7:00AM
'Dancing With the Stars' Season 13 cast

It remains to be seen who'll emerge as the front-runner on the 13th season of 'Dancing With the Stars,' which debuts Monday, Sept. 19 at 8PM ET on ABC. But, by early indications, contestant Nancy Grace is the one to beat on the press line.

The outspoken Grace didn't mince words as to why she came to L.A. to do the show. She's here anyway to cover the Michael Jackson murder case.

"I understand the defense attorney wants the jury sequestered from Nancy Grace," says the former prosecutor. "I can only say that his client is charged with standing by, talking on the phone to his girlfriend while the King of Pop, a music icon, lay on that bed and died ... I don't think it was altogether a bad thing that they asked the jury to be sequestered from me."

Grace is hoping that this trial sends a message that even rich celebrities accused of crimes deserve justice.

"Many people are still angry at Michael Jackson over the molestation charges. What many of them don't see is that Lady Justice is blind to the defendant and the victim. It doesn't matter what Jackson did or didn't do. It's a slippery slope to start judging victims."

J. R. Martinez on 'Dancing With the Stars': All About the 'All My Children' Actor

by Jean Bentley, posted Aug 29th 2011 9:50PM
JR MartinezJ. R. Martinez might be familiar to daytime TV fans, but chances are the rest of the world doesn't know much about the 28-year-old actor, who has signed on to compete during Season 13 of 'Dancing With the Stars.'

Martinez currently plays Brot Monroe, the presumed dead love of Lt. Taylor Thompson (Beth Ehlers), on ABC's soon-to-end soap opera 'All My Children.' (Good timing for the new gig, right?)

But before his life as a famous actor, Martinez served as a U.S. Army infantryman in Iraq, where he sustained burns over 40 percent of his body in 2003. After almost three years spent recovering from his injuries, the Louisiana native, who also grew up in Arizona and Georgia, began working as a motivational speaker.
