Jack Hanna and Friends Stink Up the Joint on 'The Talk' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted May 16th 2011 5:15PM
A monkey on 'The Talk'Anything can happen when animal expert Jack Hanna shows off his friends in a television studio. Today on 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS), Hanna brought along a miniature horse, some armadillos and marmosets, among others. He explained the origin of the miniature horses (it was bred to pull carts in mines) and that armadillos used to carry leprosy (when leprosy was prevalent).

But he didn't explain something very important to Holly Robinson Peete, which was why the marmoset on her shoulder smelled a little funky. "Uh, Jack, he has a little interesting odor," said Peete with the marmoset perched on her shoulder. Hanna acknowledged the smell and tried to brush it off.

Julie Chen asked if the little critter had had an accident on Peete. "Is there something you want to tell me?" asked Peete. "Well, it's too late now," replied Hanna. Peete may lose a shirt, but hey, it's better than contracting leprosy.

Letterman and Jack Hanna Feed a Dead Mouse to an Owl (VIDEO)

Owl Eats Mice on 'Late Show'A barn owl made itself comfortable on David Letterman's desk, thanks to zookeeper Jack Hanna. The surprisingly fluffy animal contentedly perused the studio audience as Hanna pulled out a plastic bag with "Biohazard" emblazoned on it. Inside were several dead mice.

"Watch how they eat 'em -- they eat a whole one," he said giddily on 'Late Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS). Sure enough, the bird swallowed the mouse whole (and headfirst).

Betty White Reprimands Sharon Osbourne for Scaring a Spider Monkey (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jan 26th 2011 5:30PM
Betty White, Jack Hanna, The TalkWhen Jack Hanna brings his animals onto a talk show, hijinks almost always ensue. Why should 'The Talk' (syndicated on CBS) be any different?

On today's show, Hanna handed Sharon Osbourne an animal called a zorilla, which looks a bit like a skunk and, Hanna promised, would smell awful when it grew to be an adult. The creature immediately climbed into Osbourne's jacket, which made the crowd coo, until Osbourne gave a shout as if she'd been bitten. Hanna leapt up from his seat, at which point Osbourne said she was only joking.

David Letterman Meets a Cheetah - and Learns What Cheetahs are Scared of (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Sep 10th 2010 6:30AM
David Letterman Meets a Cheetah - and Learns What Cheetahs Are Scared ofJack Hanna is a famous wildlife expert, and a longtime friend of David Letterman. He appears on Letterman's show several times a year, always bringing a random exotic animal along with him. Tonight on the 'Late Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), Jack arrives with a one-year-old cheetah, and plops the enormous creature right on top of Dave's desk.

Jack also brings along a type of animal that cheetahs are "deadly afraid of," but you might have a hard time guessing what that animal is. Cheetahs can reach speeds in excess of 70 miles per hour; they kill their pray by snapping their throats. The big cats are fairly deadly. So what would scare a cheetah? A lion? A crocodile? A blue whale?

David Letterman Intimidated by a Woodpecker on 'Late Show' (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted May 6th 2010 5:00AM
David Letterman Versus WoodpeckerDavid Letterman seemed fascinated by the Woody Woodpecker lookalike that Jack Hanna brought to the 'Late Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS) -- until Hanna expected him to get so close to it.

The animal expert asked Letterman to open his mouth toward the bird. "No, I'm not opening my mouth! You open your mouth!"

Hanna led by example, and the bird stuck out its tongue. The host suddenly got brave and let the woodpecker close to his face. The bird didn't peck -- he touched Letterman's face with his long tongue. Suddenly the 63-year-old turned into a giddy, hooting schoolboy.

Rabbit Attacks Jack Hanna on 'Good Morning America' (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Mar 24th 2010 12:00PM
Sure, rabbits may be cute and cuddly, but they can't be trusted. Just ask Jack Hanna, who found himself at the business end of a rabbit's powerful hindquarters during a segment on 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM ET on ABC).

While holding a monstrous rabbit in his lap and urging people not to adopt the animals as pets during Easter, Hanna is kicked repeatedly and yelps loudly in pain. "You just don't have a rabbit as a pet, is what the bottom story is," Hanna said. Thanks, Jack. Point taken.

Last week's Late Show in less than ten minutes

by Bob Sassone, posted Jun 8th 2009 12:29PM
All the talk last week was about Conan O'Brien's first week at The Tonight Show (and rightfully so), but let's not forget that David Letterman had new episodes too. The CBS site offers a recap of the best moments from The Late Show and I've posted it below. It features comments about Jay Leno and Conan, Bill Cosby, John Krasinski, Paris Hilton, Paula Abdul, Jessica Biel, a cranky new neighbor, and a giant bird flying around the studio audience.
