EXCLUSIVE: 'Battlestar's' Jamie Bamber Nabs TNT Role, 'Caprica' Vet Invades 'Alphas' & Intel on 'Blood and Chrome'

by Maureen Ryan, posted Aug 22nd 2011 5:00PM
Jamie BamberTwo veterans of the 'Battlestar Galactica' universe have landed upcoming guest roles on very different shows.

Jamie Bamber, who played Lee "Apollo" Adama on 'Battlestar Galactica' and went on to appear in 'Law & Order: UK,' will have a recurring role on the new TNT series 'Perception,' which stars Eric McCormack as Dr. Daniel Pierce, an odd neuroscience professor who helps the FBI crack cases.

Bamber will guest at least twice on 'Perception' as a new professor who catches the eye of Kate Moretti (Rachel Leigh Cook), Pierce's FBI handler and former student.

'Perception,' which also stars Kelly Rowan and Arjay Smith, premieres in the summer of 2012. And no doubt Bamber fans are aware that Bamber was also recently cast in a guest role on 'CSI: Miami.' (More nerd-bait casting: 'Star Trek' actor LeVar Burton will recur as a dean at Pierce's university.)

Another veteran of the 'BSG' universe, 'Caprica' actor John Pyper-Ferguson, will have a key role in the season finale of Syfy's 'Alphas,' a drama about people with extraordinary abilities.

Jamie Bamber Talks 'Battlestar Galactica,' 'Outcasts' and 'Law & Order: UK'

by Maureen Ryan, posted Jun 17th 2011 2:30PM
It should be clear by now that I just can't quit 'Battlestar Galactica.'

On June 11, BBC America began re-airing the acclaimed Syfy series, and there's still time to get on board. The entire four-hour miniseries that kicks off 'Battlestar' airs starting at 5PM ET Saturday, so if you've never seen this thought-provoking drama, now's your chance.

Last week, I talked to 'The Closer' and 'Battlestar' actress Mary McDonnell about working on the Syfy show, and I also recently chatted with Jamie Bamber, another member of the 'Battlestar' cast who also appears in 'Outcasts,' a sci-fi drama that debuts on BBC America 9PM ET Saturday.

Tricia Helfer Joins '17th Precinct' Pilot-Turned-'Battlestar Galactica' Reunion, TV Squad Staffers Shriek in Excitement (Frak Yeah!)

by Jean Bentley, posted Mar 4th 2011 12:15PM
Tricia HelferRemember yesterday, when James Callis was cast alongside Jamie Bamber in Ron Moore's "magical cops" pilot '17th Precinct' and we were all like "AWESOME! 'Battlestar Galactica' reunion"?

Well, take that joy and multiply it by six because another 'BSG' alum has joined the cast: Tricia Helfer. That's right -- Number 6 herself (see what we did there) will star in the NBC series.

Helfer will play Morgana, whom Deadline describes as "a necromancer, the magical equivalent of a coroner, who is an expert at manipulating the potions, tools, herbs and spells of her trade."

London Calling: 'Law & Order: UK' Premiere Review

by Maureen Ryan, posted Oct 8th 2010 11:45AM
The 'Law & Order' mothership may have been canceled by NBC last season, but the hardy procedural refuses to die. The curious thing is, the show's London incarnation is even better than the competent but stiff Los Angeles spinoff that recently debuted.

The cast of 'Law & Order: UK' (9PM ET Friday, BBC America) is so terrific that it recalls classic 'L&O' lineups (think Jerry Orbach, Stephen Hill, Sam Waterston). You may well wonder if our nation needs yet another incarnation of 'Law & Order.' But if it's this solid and satisfying, why not?

Dollhouse: Vows (season premiere)

by Brad Trechak, posted Sep 25th 2009 10:00PM
Dollhouse(S02E01) For those who have seen the DVD-and-iTunes-only episode of Dollhouse ("Epitaph One") which deals with an apocalyptic future, we're not there yet. Instead, this episode (written and directed by Joss Whedon) deals with Paul Ballard using his connections to the Dollhouse to go after an arms dealer that he couldn't put away as a simple FBI agent.

We see the beginnings of the Boyd Langton/Doctor Saunders relationship hinted at in "Epitaph One," but once again, considering that Amy Acker has a limited appearance this season in order to go to Happy Town, she was the highlight of this episode. I honestly hope that show fails, so that Amy will be around this one more for next season. Is that wrong?

First pics of Battlestar's Jamie Bamber on Dollhouse

dollhouse vows bamberApollo has landed ... in Joss Whedon's Dollhouse. The first (very tiny) promo pics of the season premiere of Dollhouse, "Vows," have popped up online. The pics feature former Battlestar Galactica cast member Jamie Bamber apparently tying the knot with Eliza Dushku's Echo.

The ep follows Echo on her latest engagement as the bride of a wealthy financier who might be involved in arms trafficking. The engagement is set up by do-gooder and former FBI agent Paul, played by Bamber's former Battlestar co-star Tahmoh Penikett, who wants to use the Dollhouse to do some good for the world.

batlestar michael hogan dollhouseMichael Hogan isn't done with Battlestar Galactica just yet. The actor who played the show's hardest drinking toaster will appear in the upcoming BSG TV movie The Plan, directed by Edward James Olmos. Hogan will join former BSG actor and Dollhouse cast member Tahmoh Penikett in a season two episode of Dollhouse. He won't be the only BSG alum guest starring on Dollhouse this year. Jamie Bamber, who played Apollo, will show up in the season premiere, set to air September 25.

Battlestar vet snags role on new Law & Order

by Kona Gallagher, posted Jul 21st 2008 5:41PM
jamie bamberI'm a huge Law & Order fan, and as such, I am quite jealous of the Brits today. Not only are they getting their very own Law & Order, called Law & Order: UK, but Battlestar Galactica's Jamie Bamber is set to star. Bamber, who just ended his role as Apollo on the Sci Fi Network series, is playing one of the main detectives, along with fellow Englander, Bradley Walsh.

According to Bamber, L&O's UK edition is just like the American version, but will be about "London judiciary and London cops. It's got the same premise as the original American Law & Order, same everything, just with a UK production company and UK actors."

The series is slated to begin production in August and will air on the UK channel ITV. There's no word as to whether or not it will jump the pond and be available to American audiences, but I'd definitely be interested to see how this long-running series translates overseas.

The Excellence in Outsourcing Award: Winner - VIDEO

by Allison Waldman, posted Jun 6th 2008 11:59PM
hugh laurieAttention, TV Squad readers, my friends and fellow television fans, it's time to announce the winner for The Excellence in Outsourcing Award, that is, the foreign actor who possesses the best American accent. There were many worthy nominees, but the overwhelming winner was House, MD himself, actor Hugh Laurie. That Englishman, one of her majesty's loyal subjects, has been making us all believe that he's just a Jersey boy. As Dr. Gregory House of Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, he sounds like he was born in south Jersey, spent his summers in Asbury Park, and is as much a Garden Stater as Bruce Springsteen and Tony Soprano.
