'Sexiest Man Alive 2011': Which TV Stars Made the Cut?

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 17th 2011 6:05AM
Bradley Cooper, People's 'Sexiest Man Alive 2011'Bradley Cooper's been celebrating being named as 'People' magazine's 'Sexiest Man Alive 2011.' After saying his first thought on hearing the news was, "My mother is going to be so happy," the buff 'Hangover' star joked "I'm waiting for Dax Shepard to come out, and that it's an episode of 'Punk'd.'"

Cooper added: "I think it's really cool that a guy who doesn't look like a model can have this. ... I think I'm a decent-looking guy. Sometimes I can look great, and other times I look horrifying."

So which TV stars have been deemed hot enough to join Cooper on the list? Well, there are some conventional hotties like 'Luther' star Idris Elba, 'Community's Joel McHale and 'Game of Thrones' glowering Horse Lord Jason Momoa, but there are also a few guys who are, well, perhaps less obviously hot in the conventional sense.

Emmys Reveal Lots of New, But Familiar, Faces at 'The Office' (VIDEO)

Jason Momoa, 'The 2011 Emmy Awards'By now, everyone knows that Steve Carell has left the building, and James Spader has joined the cast of 'The Office,' but as we saw on 'The 2011 Emmy Awards' (Sun., 8PM ET on FOX), Spader isn't the only new person getting face time at Dunder-Mifflin.

In a very fun video, we got to see a who's who of television in that familiar office chair where the castmembers from the show do their confessionals.

They were all talking about what they hated about their jobs, like Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) hating rapists, sex trafficking and crimes against children -- this is a much darker take for 'The Office.'

Jason Momoa Says 'Game of Thrones' Helped Land Him 'Conan' Title Role (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Aug 16th 2011 3:00PM
Jason Momoa, aka Khal Drogo on 'Game of Thrones' and 'Conan the Barbarian,' on 'Access Hollywood Live'Playing a muscle-bound TV warrior gave Jason Momoa the opportunity to play a muscle-bound warrior on the big-screen. The actor told Kit Hoover Tuesday on 'Access Hollywood Live' (weekdays, syndicate on NBC) that his intimidating performance as Khal Drogo on HBO's 'Game of Thrones' landed him the starring role in the movie reboot of 'Conan the Barbarian,' which opens Friday.

On 'Thrones,' Drogo is a chieftan who leads his hordes into battle. Momoa said his performance impressed the 'Conan' people. "I did the haka," said Momoa, "which is like this Maori war dance, war chant, and it's very intimidating and scary, and obviously the same casting director was there for Conan.

HBO Ready To Play 'Game of Thrones'

by Mike Moody, posted Mar 2nd 2010 5:15PM
game of thronesSick of waiting for Guillermo Del Toro to adapt 'The Hobbit' for the big screen? This news might help tide you over: HBO has officially picked up fantasy series 'Game of Thrones' for a 10-episode season.

The show is based on George R. R. Martin's best-selling 'A Song of Ice and Fire' novels, which, admittedly, I have never read. Still, I'm excited about the possibilities for this series. HBO did family drama right ('Six Feet Under'), reinvented the Western ('Deadwood'), gave us a wonderfully quirky vampire show ('True Blood'), and the greatest police drama of all time ('The Wire'). I can't wait to see what an epic HBO fantasy series will look like.

Former Baywatch star is Conan the Barbarian

by Brad Trechak, posted Jan 22nd 2010 10:00AM
Conan the BarbarianYes, I know what you're thinking... David Hasselhoff, right? No, I'm sorry. That is incorrect. The actor playing the title role in the upcoming Conan the Barbarian remake is television actor Jason Momoa, best known for his roles on Baywatch Hawaii and Stargate Atlantis.

If Momoa's most visible roles involve a franchise name followed by a location, then perhaps a better title for the flick would be Conan the Barbarian: Middle Earth. Even better, they could have Conan the Barbarian: New Jersey. I'm just saying.

Mind you, there have been rumors for years about a remake or continuation of the Conan movies. If I recall correctly, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was attached to the lead role at one point.

One can only wonder if the recent controversy surrounding another guy named Conan sparked this particular announcement at this time. Or maybe, as Doc Brown says, it could just be an amazing coincidence.

Stargate vet joins HBO fantasy pilot

jason momoa game of thrones stargate atlantis HBO has added another cast member to its upcoming Game of Thrones pilot, based on George R.R. Martin's fantasy book series A Song of Ice and Fire. Stargate Atlantis alum Jason Momoa has been cast as Drogo, a powerful warlord who has never been defeated in battle.

This sounds like the perfect role for the hulking 6' 4" actor, best known as SGA's resident Wraith killin' badass, Ronon Dex. Hopefully, Momoa's potential Game of Thrones schedule won't keep him from appearing in the proposed Stargate Atlantis DVD movie/telefilm.

Stargate Atlantis: The Queen

Christopher Heyerdahl - Stargate Atlantis
(S05E08) On paper, "The Queen" looked to have a lot of potential. The team was back together and off on an adventure. Even better, this wasn't some standalone excursion to an unknown planet that we wouldn't be seeing again. The story was set to tie the research that was recently discovered in Michael's lab in with the ongoing story of Todd. For the most part, all of that added up to a very good episode.

(S05E06) The folks over at Atlantis had quite a week, even before we got to the new episode. Knowing that the countdown to the end of the series has now begun made it feel just a little different tuning in on Friday night. The plans for a movie lessen the gravity of the news, as the show won't have to build to its final climactic moment, but there is still something to knowing its all ending. To take our minds off of that news, the crew checks in with a solid stand-alone episode that really stood out thanks to the performance of David Hewlett.

Stargate Atlantis: Ghost In The Machine

(S05E05) It's a strange week for Stargate Atlantis. Normally we talk about the episodes of various shows, be they good or bad, based on what was on the screen that week. Behind the scenes goings on occasionally come into play, but rarely to the extent that they do for "Ghost In The Machine." There's a lot of back story to this one, and now that I've seen it I find myself thinking as much about what could have been, as what it is we actually saw. And really, I'm not sure whether or not that's a good thing.

Stargate Atlantis: The Daedalus Variations

Stargate Atlantis
(S05E04) Big things are on the horizon for our friends in Atlantis. Episode five brings with it a big picture episode that will take us back to a host of things that happened in season four. With a slot to fill before that, it was time for another stand alone episode. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Some of my favorite Atlantis episodes have been of the stand alone variety. And luckily for us, this is another of the really good stand alone entries.

(S05E03) I have to admit, when I saw in the previews last week that we were getting a Ronon episode, I wasn't exactly excited. I figured it would be another stand alone episode, probably ok, but I don't usually think of Ronon as a character to carry the big load. Having now watched "Broken Ties," I'll say I was pleasantly surprised. Jason Momoa took advantage of being given the A-story and delivered his best performance to date. And along the way we got a little more background on Woolsey, and some answers to Teyla's burning question.

(S05E02) And with that, season five has begun. I've really been looking forward to this episode for the simple fact that it would give us our first look at just what kind of leader Woolsey is going to be. There are certainly a lot of things coming in season five, but that one, more than any other, has the ability to really affect how the season is ultimately received. We got that first look, and it was an interesting one. Along the way, we also caught up with our old friend Dr. Beckett. And Dr. Keller got to step out of the background (and climb into bed) for a pretty big story of her own. We'll get to all that, after the jump.

And just like that, our old friends from Atlantis are back... for a little while. I continue to be baffled by the scheduling department over at Sci Fi. My best guess is that all programming is set in place at the whim of a 16 year old intern suffering from a mind boggling case of unmedicated ADD. He's followed up the senseless Battlestar break by promising an equally annoying split in the Atlantis season. I never understood it when they were doing it to Farscape, and I still don't get it. Whatever the case, our half of a season kicked off by tying up those loose ends from the season four finale, and dropping the bomb that launches season five.

Stargate Atlantis season five - An early look

Stargate Atlantis cast
I was pretty excited when our friendly neighborhood FedEx guy dropped off the envelope with the promo package for season five of Atlantis. And I remained so even after my DVD player balked at reading the disk. It just served as a fine example as to why it's not geeky to have a computer connected to your television, it's just handy.

As the disk started up I was thinking it would be a good idea to do an early look post about where things look to be heading in season five. Unfortunately, Sci Fi only sent out the first episode of the season, and it's not telling us much of anything about season five, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The episode plays like S04E21 right up to the last scene, where season five begins to take over. Given where we last left our friends in Atlantis, that was probably to be expected. More, including some minor spoilers, after the jump.

Stargate Atlantis: Midway

(S04E17) First, my apologies for this being so late. Rich and I got some wires crossed and we both ended up pointing at each other saying, "Crap, I thought it was your turn!" Better late than never though, right? Anyway... "Midway" has been one of the brighter spots on the upcoming schedule all season simply because Teal'c was returning. I'm sure that for many fans, the return in and of itself was cause to celebrate the episode. I have no special preference for Teal'c myself, so that didn't totally sell me on the episode, but the story he brought along with him did. With a couple of nagging exceptions, it was very good.
