NBC is Spending Money on TV Shows Again!

by Bob Sassone, posted May 3rd 2010 11:28AM
NBC logoNBC has just realized something: you have to spend money if you want good TV shows.

OK, maybe "realized" isn't the best word to use. More like "remembered." NBC chairman Jeff Gaspin tells The New York Times that the network is changing its strategy and will pay to get some good shows on the network.

For starters, they've ordered almost 20 new pilots this season -- scripted dramas and comedies -- up from ten last season. Instead of strictly going by the numbers and looking for a big profit margin and trying to cut costs in every way possible, they're looking for good shows they can stick with.

Conan O'Brien Talks About Jay Leno on '60 Minutes' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted May 2nd 2010 11:45PM
Conan O'Brien Talks About Jay Leno on '60 Minutes'Conan O'Brien appeared on '60 Minutes' (Sun., 7PM ET on CBS) to discuss the late night wars and rival host Jay Leno. The conversation focused on his abrupt departure from 'The Tonight Show.' Interviewer Steve Kroft offered his opinion that O'Brien had been "screwed" by Leno. At first, O'Brien joked about the situation, saying that he was laughing "because crying would be sad."

Late Night Wars on '30 Rock' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Apr 23rd 2010 4:05AM
Late Night Wars on '30 Rock'Tina Fey is the star and producer of '30 Rock' (Thu., 9:30PM ET on NBC). She's also a friend of Conan O'Brien. But that probably had nothing to do with the current episode of the show. Although the latest episode did oddly parody the late night wars between O'Brien and his rival Jay Leno. Maybe it's just all a coincidence?

Conan O'Brien Is Surprised on 'TMZ' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Apr 14th 2010 10:35PM
Conan O'Brien Is Surprised on 'TMZ'Conan O'Brien is back! It's official -- after leaving "The Tonight Show," the comedy star will be hosting a new late-night show at 11PM on TBS. A 'TMZ' reporter surprised O'Brien with a question related to that news. In fact, 'TMZ' (weekdays, syndicated) managed to "zing" O'Brien. "Did you hear the news?" the reporter said to O'Brien. "TBS signed Jay Leno! 10:30 program every night!"

Betty White May Host 'Saturday Night Live' Solo After All

by Gary Susman, posted Mar 3rd 2010 2:30PM
Good news, bad news: The bad news is, while 'Saturday Night Live' will indeed have a "Women in Comedy" special in April, Betty White won't be part of it. The good news is, 'SNL' producers are still in talks with her about the solo hosting gig that her nearly half a million Facebook fans have been clamoring for.

The news came from a panel discussion in New York on Tuesday night about 'SNL,' whose attendees included longtime 'SNL' executive producer Lorne Michaels and 'SNL' head writer/'Weekend Update' anchor Seth Meyers. "I think it's happening," Meyers told Jezebel.com, about a White hosting gig. "We would love to have her."

Here's the New Promo for Leno's 'Tonight Show' Return

by Bob Sassone, posted Feb 18th 2010 1:34PM
Did you see the first promo for Jay Leno's return to 'The Tonight Show?' It aired during the Olympics last night, and here it is if you missed it. It's a take-off on the promo NBC had for 'The Jay Leno Show,' only this time the "10" is replaced.

In related news, USA Today is reporting that NBC said no to another promo idea. It would have shown Jay in the shower, talking to Victoria Principal, a la Bobby Ewing on 'Dallas,' saying that the last year didn't really happen. That would have been funny (if a bit cruel to Conan).

'The Late Shift 2': Who Should Play Whom?

by Danny Gallagher, posted Feb 15th 2010 11:06AM
News that New York Times reporter Bill Carter is working on a pseudo-sequel to his groundbreaking book The Late Shift' made a smile creep across my face. I haven't yet read the book, but the buzz it caused and the weird stories that came out of it just by word of mouth gave it an aura of mysterious wonder that made the television industry infinitely more fascinating than it already was.

It also spawned a pretty decent made-for-TV HBO movie. Now I don't know what kind of craziness "Round Two" has to offer, but the players involved are definitely going to have all sorts of wild secrets revealed from Carter's work and when it does, HBO is going to want the movie rights. So here's who should play who in this new tragic merry-go-round of television programming hilarity that shall be called 'The Late Shift 2'.

What You Missed Last Night: The Last 'Jay Leno Show'

by Bob Sassone, posted Feb 10th 2010 11:29AM
If you missed the very last episode of 'The Jay Leno Show' last night, here are the "highlights."

Because Leno is going back to 'The Tonight Show,' this wasn't a big farewell. It was more like "yeah, this is the last episode, see ya later" (Leno returns to late night after the Olympics).

Ashton Kutcher told Jay the whole 'Jay Leno Show'/'Tonight Show' plot was one of his punks, Bob Costas made a joke comparing Jay to the L.A. Clippers, Jay showed some "best" moments from the show, and Donald Trump told Jay "You're Fired" (which continues to be annoying - Leno wasn't fired, he's simply getting another multi-million dollar position in the same company).

Here's the whole episode:
