Music's Superstars Highlight '2011 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 30th 2011 12:30AM
Victoria's Secret Fashion Show'One of television's most unusual annual events returned as 'The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show' (Tue., 10PM ET on CBS) took over the airwaves with lots of underwear and wings. But Adriana Lima and the gang on the runway were joined by a bevy of superstar musicians as well, to make it more of a show for non-fashion fans.

Okay, we get that the fact that supermodels wearing nothing but lingerie is enough to draw in a lot of non-fashion enthusiasts, but for those who need more, they got Kanye West and Jay-Z performing together, along with performances by Adam Levine -- who planted a kiss on his surprised girlfriend Anne Vyalitsina -- and Nicki Minaj.

Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Beyonce and Cloris Leachman Highlight the 2011 VMAs (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 29th 2011 3:21AM
Britney Spears & Lady Gaga, '2011 MTV Video Music Awards'As always, the 'MTV Video Music Awards' (Sun., 9PM ET on MTV) was a spectacle of sight and sound, filled with the hottest faces and voices in popular music. Jay-Z and Kany West lit up the stage with a duet, while Mrs. Jay-Z, Beyonce, performed and revealed that the couple was expecting.

Lady Gaga presented yet another crazy costume, only this time the craziest thing about it was that she was portraying a man -- her own lover, no less. She stayed in character to present Britney Spears with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, where the pair almost kissed, but Spears said, "I've done that already."

Jay-Z on Growing Up in the Projects -- and Selling Drugs (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Nov 17th 2010 2:45AM
Jay-Z on Growing Up in the Projects -- and Selling DrugsRapper Jay-Z is one of the ten most successful recording artists of the past decade. But on the new 'Late Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), he discussed his very humble upbringing.

Jay-Z (real name: Shawn Carter) was born in the Marcy Projects in Brooklyn, NY, and he went through some tough times. Shawn was abandoned by his father when he was 12. Without a man in the house, he had to find a way to support himself -- which led to some very questionable decisions.

David Letterman asked about life in the projects: "What was that like for a kid?" Jay-Z said sometimes there were "great days ... fun and ice cream." "But then, some days it would turn super-violent." Asked about the source of the violence, Jay-Z said it was caused by "little guys with big guns."

Chris Brown Tries for Redemption at the 'BET Awards 2010' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jun 28th 2010 2:40AM
Chris Brown Tries for Redemption at the 'BET Awards 2010'The 'BET Awards 2010' (Sun., 8PM ET on BET) took place tonight. The show featured performances by Alicia Keys, Enimem, and Drake. Among the nominees for awards were Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Jay-Z, as well as many others.

Kanye West also showed up to perform -- in one of his first high-profile events since notoriously interrupting Taylor Swift at the 'MTV Video Music Awards.'

But the highlight of the show was an performance by Chris Brown, who paid tribute to Michael Jackson. Brown famously pled guilty last year for assaulting his girlfriend Rihanna, and ever since then, his sales and reputation have suffered. But he appeared to make a stab at redemption with his emotional rendition of several of Michael Jackson's hit songs -- including 'Billie Jean' and 'Man in the Mirror.' At the close of his performance, Brown broke down into tears. Were they tears of remorse for what he had done to Rihanna?

Betty White Talks 'SNL', Jay-ZDoes Betty White owe David Matthews a big "thanks"? He's the guy who started the FaceBook group that helped get the actress a gig hosting 'Saturday Night Live' this weekend.

But, as she told Jimmy Fallon on 'Late Night' (weeknights, 12:37AM ET on NBC), David will get a different response if they ever meet. "I have not met him. And when I do, I'm gonna kill him! ... I am scared to death [about doing the show]," said White.

"Are you going to do any sketches with Jay-Z?" asked Fallon. She had a quick-witted response. Oh, she'll be fine this Saturday.

TV Moment of 2009: Kanye Interrupts Taylor Swift at MTV Video Music Awards

by Chris O'Connell, posted Dec 28th 2009 8:00AM
Taylor Swift"Yo Taylor, I'm really happy for you, I'mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time."

Words that will live forever in infamy. Sort of. In one of the most baffling awards show moments ever, Kanye West stormed the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards just after Taylor Swift was awarded Best Female Video. Swift, and the rest of America, looked on awkwardly.

Was this really happening? Once everyone remembered who was doing the interrupting, it didn't seem so shocking. Kanye had pulled this sort of act before, once even a couple of years ago at the MTV Europe Music Awards when he crashed the stage after losing an award to French duo Justice.

Stephen Colbert Raps with Alicia Keys on 'Colbert Report' (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Dec 16th 2009 12:20PM
Stephen Colbert busted a rhyme during Alicia Keys' performance of 'Empire State of Mind' on last night's 'The Colbert Report,' replacing Jay-Z's rap with one that echoed his upper middle class lifestyle.

In stark contrast to Jay-Z's original rap on the single, Colbert got gangsta bourgeoisie with lyrics like, "Shopping mall is close. My community is gated. My shorties are all private school educated."

Jay-Z and Alicia Keys Will Perform at World Series Game 2

by Michael D. Ayers, posted Oct 28th 2009 1:26PM
Jay-ZAlthough he was originally scheduled to perform at tonight's opening World Series game, Jay-Z has been bumped to Game 2. R&B songstress Alicia Keys will perform the national anthem, and prior to that, she'll join New York's reigning rap king Jay-Z on his current single, 'Empire State of Mind.'

Because of the soggy weather that's soaked the New York area in the last 24 hours, the thought is that a stage on the field could affect the playing conditions in some form.

The Jay Leno Show: Jerry Seinfeld (series premiere)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 14th 2009 11:48PM
The Jay Leno Show
A lot is riding on this little NBC pet project. Like one-third of their primetime lineup. But despite all their promises and promotions that this was a comedy show, vastly different than Jay Leno's work on The Tonight Show, I saw virtually the same exact show on a different set. That's not necessarily a bad thing if you're NBC. Leno was incredibly successful for a long time on that show. Just call it what it is.

The promise that it would stay topical was brought to fruition. In the opening monologue, just like those Tonight Show monologues of yore, he drops a joke right away about the situation last night at the Video Music Awards involving Kanye West and Taylor Swift. Conveniently, Kanye was a booked guest tonight, as well, so with a little shuffling, he wound up on the chair next to Leno to talk about it.
