Charlie Rose and Gayle King to Host 'The Early Show'

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 11th 2011 7:40AM
Gayle KingLast December there was a veritable bloodbath over at CBS when 'The Early Show' axed anchors Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez, plus meteorologist Dave Price, in a major reshuffle of CBS News on-air talent. Now it's been reported that early 2012 will see the show receive another makeover including a new set, maybe a new name, and two new hosts: PBS veteran Charlie Rose and Oprah's BFF Gayle King.

According to 'The New York Times' CBS will announce the planned revamp in New York on Tuesday. The network is expected to reveal a shift in direction away from the coffee klatch feel of most morning talk shows and towards a focus on hard news with the panel format of shows like MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' and ABC's 'The View.'

Current co-host Chris Wragge will reportedly lose his job in the reshuffle, but Erica Hill and Jeff Glor will keep theirs. Hill -- who was promoted when Smith et al. were fired -- will anchor the 7-8AM hour with '60 Minutes' contributor Rose. Meanwhile King will take on the 8--9AM slot with the aid of featured correspondents and contributors.

Marvel Comics EIC Axel Alonso Looks at the History and Future of Comics on 'The Early Show' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jul 21st 2011 2:15PM
Axel Alonso of Marvel Comics talks 'Captain America' and other comics on 'The Early Show'Marvel Comics superheroes have never had a higher profile than they have this summer. 'Captain America: The First Avenger' is about to hit theaters Friday, joining releases of 'Thor' and 'X-Men: First Class' from earlier this year, a popular 'Iron Man' series, and an upcoming 'Spider-man' reboot. 'The Early Show' (weekdays, 7AM on CBS) caught up with Axel Alonso, named editor-in-chief of Marvel in January, to talk about Marvel and the future of comics.

They began in a comic book shop, where Alonso handed anchor Jeff Glor a few books. "These are all little pieces of history you hold in your hands," he said. Captain America, it was noted, debuted in the spring of 1941. At that time, no one could have imagined such a full-color, live action, CGI-enhanced version of Joe Simon and Jack Kirby's creation coming to the big screen.

Chef Katie Lee Gets Distracted by Jeff Glor's Nuts During French Toast Competition (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Feb 10th 2011 2:50PM
Jeff Glor and Katie Lee cooking on 'The Early Show'Another week, another food competition on 'The Early Show' (Weekdays, 7AM on CBS). Today the competition centered around french toast, which led to a spontaneous double entendre (which we suspect may be the reason they keep doing these food competitions to begin with).

Celebrity Chef Katie Lee was on hand to give everyone tips. Host Jeff Glor was making his with apples, when Lee encouraged him to add more. "Don't be skimpy with them," she said. "I like a lot of food."

Then she pointed at a dish on the table and said, "And what about your nuts? Are you going to toast those or anything?" When the studio broke out in Beavis and Butthead-like laughter, Lee rolled her eyes. "This crew, I tell you what," she said.

For the record, they were walnuts, if that makes it any better.

Craig Ferguson Introduces the New 'Early Show' Team, Complete With Awkward Pauses (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Dec 14th 2010 9:01AM
Craig Ferguson Introduces the New 'Early Show' Team, Complete With Awkward Pauses Well, tomorrow is another day. Unless you're the hosts of 'The Early Show,' that is. Two weeks ago, CBS fired every single member of the perennially-last-place morning talk show. 'Early Show' hosts Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez are out. CBS even fired weatherman Dave Price. (Which seems a little unfair to us. What did the weatherman do wrong? Did he miss predicting a tsunami or something?)

In place of the former team, CBS brought in an entirely new crew. Shockingly, they are a bunch of good-looking young people -- the guys wear suits, the women wear short skirts. (Unexpected!) But who are these young kids? On 'The Late Late Show' (weeknights, 12:37AM ET on CBS), Craig Ferguson tried to figure it all out.

They are: Erica Hill, co-anchor; Marysol Castro, weather anchor; Jeff Glor, news-reader; and Chris Ragge, co-anchor. Nifty! Next, Craig tries to puzzle out how this actually changes anything for the show. "So what new stuff is gonna be happening?" he asks. "Are you gonna have new weather?"

Yes
, says Marysol. "Somewhere, it's be gonna sunny; and somewhere, it's gonna be ... not sunny." Fantastic. Please, say no more.

CBS Anchor Is Smitten with Carrie Underwood (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Mar 30th 2010 12:20PM
CBS Anchor Is Smitten with Carrie UnderwoodJeff Glor, co-host of 'The Early Show' (weekdays, 7AM ET on CBS), seems to have a bit of a crush on singer Carrie Underwood. In fact, he makes a special request: can he sit next to her? "I know you want to sit next to Carrie..." says co-host Maggie Rodriguez. Mr. Glor plops down next to Carrie Underwood, and then they all discuss Underwood's new fiancee: hockey player Mike Fisher.

So we've already got Glor flirting with Underwood. But then, Rodriguez asks to see Underwood's engagement ring, and her fingers caress Underwood's hand for an... oddly long time. Are both CBS anchors flirting with Ms. Underwood? Judge for yourself.

Watch the video after the jump.

Harry Smith wasn't on The CBS Early Show this morning. Well, he was, but via webcam from his house. Why? He may have H1N1! But he got to appear on the show and wear a comfy t-shirt!

By the way, H1N1 & Harry is a new show this fall on CBS.
