Can Jeff Corwin Outsmart an Animal Without a Brain? (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Sep 2nd 2010 11:58PM
Can Jeff Corwin Outsmart an Animal Without a Brain?... And the short answer to the question posed in the headline is: No. And that's pretty sad. On the new 'Extreme Cuisine' (Thu., 8PM ET on Food Network), host Jeff Corwin travels to the United Kingdom to sample some of the local dishes. The food enjoyed by the natives there includes jellied eels, stuffed sheep's stomach and saltwater snails. Gee, maybe this is the reason that some people aren't that "into" British food.

The saltwater snails that Jeff hunts for are called "limpets," and they aren't that hard to track down. Mainly because they live on rocks, and almost never move -- sometimes a limpet will stay on a single rock for its entire life. Removing the creature from its rock proves to be more problematic, though.

Dropping Into a Cave to Chase Angry Eels on 'Extreme Cuisine' (VIDEO)

Dropping Into a Cave to Chase Angry Eels on 'Extreme Cuisine'The word "extreme" seems to get thrown around a lot these days. We have extreme sodas, extreme sporting events, and so on and so forth. And we're a little skeptical about some of these things, to be honest. So we'll just actually have to tune in to the show 'Extreme Cuisine With Jeff Corwin' (Thu., 8PM ET on Food Network) -- in order to learn if it's really EXTREME TO THE MAX.

On the latest episode of the show, host (and "food anthropologist") Jeff Corwin travels to New Zealand, where he hunts down an obscure species of eel. Supposedly, these eels are good eating, but in order to reach them, you have to rappel down into a cave. Also, the cave is pitch black, and is filled with waist-deep, freezing cold water.

Jeff Corwin attacked by elephant - VIDEO

by Anna Johns, posted Mar 24th 2007 7:40AM
jeff corwin; anderson cooper; elephantAnimal Planet host Jeff Corwin was tossed by an elephant while filming a segment with CNN's Anderson Cooper. Corwin is a regular correspondent for Cooper's show, Anderson Cooper 360, for a segment called "Planet in Peril". The duo was in Cambodia at the Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center when one elephant put Corwin's arm in his mouth and shook him. On his blog, Cooper describes what happened to Corwin as being "tossed like a ragdoll". Corwin also posted on the blog, and describes the incident in very little detail and a non-alarmist way. It's apparent from his post that he's more concerned with the plight of the Cambodian elephants than with what happened.

The video is on Cooper's blog (and on YouTube) right now, and once you watch it, you'll be amazed to know that Corwin was generally okay. His arm wasn't even broken, just badly twisted and bruised. After the incident, Corwin continued filming with Cooper and then went to get checked out by a doctor, who put him in a sling. He may have some ligament damage, but will have to wait to know for sure when he returns to the U.S. I was actually very impressed with Cooper's reporting because he didn't let the incident overshadow the real reason for being with the elephants.

Video after the jump (the attack happens at 2:40 into the video):

[Thanks, Tim UF!]
