TV Funnyman Ross Mathews Talks Shedding Pounds for His New Gig with Jenny Craig
Ross Mathews has gone from Jay Leno's jolly intern, to a jolly 'Tonight Show' correspondent, to 'Chelsea Lately''s jolly roundtable guest, but recently, he's been dropping the jolly. Although he'll never lose his smile or that signature sing-songy voice, he has lost quite a few pounds thanks to Jenny Craig. If you follow Ross at all -- on his blog, on Twitter or on any of his TV gigs -- you know all about his struggle with weight, and (hello!) his new slimmer physique of late. Obviously someone at Jenny Craig noticed as well, because he's been crowned their latest spokesperson.
I caught up with the funnyman to find out all about how much he's lost so far, and how much he's got to reach his goal, and he shared stories about his weight loss struggles and what a difference this program has finally made.
He also dished about the company he's now in -- with the likes of Valerie Bertinelli, Carrie Fisher and his good pal Sara Rue -- and what his version of the "bikini reveal" will be when he reaches his goal. "I don't know what the male equivalent is. I guess a G-string? A thong? Let me just tell you right now: not happening."
And for you fans of Chelsea Handler's late-night show, he also teased a bit about the pilot he shot for E! with 'Chelsea' staffer Heather McDonald. The series has gotten some good buzz ... despite its lack of anyone with the last name Kardashian.
So if you're pleased with your own appearance, enjoy this for the giggle-filled stories of a truly happy man. And if you feel like you're getting a little too jolly yourself, Ross' words of wisdom are nothing if not realistic: "I'm not the only one. I think the majority of us struggle with weight." Kirstie Alley Returns to Television to Lose Weight
Losing weight has become a full-time job for Kirstie Alley. She was a spokesperson for Jenny Craig for a while and lost a ton of weight, so much that she even showed up on 'Oprah' in a bikini to show how much weight she had lost. She even had an overweight-themed show for a while, the one with the subtle title 'Fat Actress.' Of course, Alley gained the weight back (and more, if some pictures were to be believed), so it seems like this is going to be a life-long thing for her.And us, because Alley has yet another reality show coming up that's going to focus on her weight and health. A&E's 'Kirstie Alley's Big Life' will follow the actress as she tries to lose weight. Of course, ther's more to it than that. The show will also chronicle her duties as a single mom to two teenagers (Alley is divorced from actor Parker Stevenson).
The show starts on March 21 at 10PM. So who's going to watch?
Weight Watchers suing Jenny Craig over Valerie Bertinelli commercial
I hate ads that show someone in a lab coat or standing in front of a bunch of books. Ooooo, he's in front of a bookcase, he must know what he's talking about! [via Gawker]
Jason Alexander the latest Jenny Craig pitch man
Nobody can accuse Jason Alexander of not being honest about himself. The actor has not been happy with the way he's been looking of late and he's going to do something about it. Jason Alexander is the new spokesman for Jenny Craig. Not only is it "no soup for you," Jason, it's also no more big salad, too. (Unless the size of Jenny Craig meals have been supersized and nobody told me about it!)Jason is the latest Jenny Craig celebrity pitcher, joining Sara Rue and Valerie Bertinelli. I can't wait to see Jason in a Speedo like Valerie in the bikini! No, seriously, Jason's goal with the diet is clearly all about shrinkage. He wants his old waistline, the one that made George Costanza such a catch.

Oprah makes a deal with Kirstie Alley
Kirstie Alley is coming back to the small screen and Oprah's got her. Harpo Productions has signed Alley for future TV projects. It could be a sitcom like Fat Actress, it could be a talk show, like the one she shopped around last year, but in whatever format, Harpo will be behind it. One definite possibility would be for Kirstie to appear in a show on OWN, the new Oprah Winfrey Network, which used to be Discovery Health Channel.Least surprising news of the day: Valerie Bertinelli gets a talk show
We seem to be in the middle of a Valerie Bertinelli renaissance.
First Bertinelli signed up with Jenny Craig and is the new spokesperson (bye-bye Kirstie Alley), then she became a correspondent for Rachael Ray, then she released a memoir, and then she made the inevitable appearance on Oprah. She was also on Larry King Live earlier this week and when he asked her if she would like to do a talk show, she didn't say "hey, I already have one!" but that must have been the case, because she has one. Bertinelli has signed with CBS to develop a new talk show for the 2009-10 season.
Valerie Bertinelli joins Rachael Ray's show
First she lost all that weight on Jenny Craig, and now she might gain it all back.
Actress Valerie Bertinelli is joining Rachael Ray. She'll be a celebrity content buddy, doing stories about food and family and being a working mom. Her first show will be tomorrow, October 23. Bertinelli will report from New Orleans, where she'll give women a guide to Monday Night Football and cook gumbo.
I've always liked Bertinelli. It's about time she's back on television in some way. I hope she gets her own series. Something tells me that she'll be more likable than Ray on her appearances on the show, though "celebrity content buddy" has to be one of the most annoying titles I've ever heard.
Kirstie Alley cast as minister
It looks like Kirstie Alley may have a post-Jenny Craig career after all. The Emmy Award-winning actress will head the cast of Fox's comedic pilot The Minister of Divine. Alley will play a renegade-turned-preacher who returns to her small hometown as a woman of the cloth. The show is based on BBC series The Vicar of Dibley.Feel free to insert your own joke about ministers counseling the faithful on the caloric content of the Saturday night fish fry, but I've got faith in Alley. She came back from Look Who's Talking. She can come back from the Oprah tankini dance. I feel like Alley may age into one of my favorite female archetypes - the "I don't care what you think of me," "seen it all" dames of the Elaine Stritch, Kathleen Turner and Kiki and Herb mold. Technically, Kiki's a drag queen, but you know what I mean.
Kirstie Alley dons a bikini on Oprah today
About a year ago, Kirstie Alley went on Oprah to tell her and the audience why she had ballooned to over 220 pounds and how she managed to drop 55 pounds. Remember that at the same time she decided to become a spokeswoman for Jenny Craig and start losing the weight, she starred in a self-parodying Showtime series Fat Actress, so her chubbiness ended up being quite profitable for her.Now she's lost a total of 75 pounds, and is so proud of her new figure, the 55-year-old Alley is going to appear on the show again this afternoon... in a bikini. Think about this: not many 55-year-olds would appear on a national TV show in a bikini to begin with, much less one that has just lost the equivalent of a 25-inch TV off their bodies. I'm sure some of the leftover flab has been nipped and tucked by talented doctors, but going out there in a bikini is pretty brave, even for a ballsy woman like Alley.
Alley talks about her weight gain and loss, and her Oprah appearance, in this Life magazine inteview. The details of what she ate to get to her maximum density is pretty scary, even to a hefty eater like myself.
