It's official: Kathie Lee joins Today
by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 31st 2008 10:04AM
Three weeks ago it was a hot rumor. Now it's a fact. NBC announced that Kathie Lee Gifford will co-host the fourth hour of Today beginning Monday, April 7th. She'll be teaming up with Hoda Kotb for an hour of chit-chat, info, interviews and what have you. I doubt she'll be singing, but then again, if Kathie Lee can cajole them into rolling a piano onto the set, watch out."I am truly honored to join the Today show family, many of whom have been friends and colleagues of mine for years," said Kathie Lee via release. "And I'm especially looking forward to working with Hoda, a bright and beautiful woman I admire very much. Together I hope we will bring a fresh and fun perspective to the topics that affect all of our daily lives."
A fourth hour of Today, and Meredith keeps me from falling - TCA Report
by Joel Keller, posted Jan 18th 2007 10:17AM
Probably the least-surprising news to come out of yesterday's NBC sessions was that the network is going to expand Today to a fourth hour. NBC News president Steve Capus and Today executive producer Jim Bell paneled with Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira, Al Roker, and Ann Curry to discuss the move as well as the show's year of transition.Of course, the show's signature easy-going goofiness was in evidence. Matt Lauer: "I see you all typing away on your laptops, and I'm not going to tell you what your headline should be. But the headline we think should be 'Today show crew boringly happy.'" Meredith joked about kissing a monkey on the show earlier that morning: "I can't get over the fact I kissed a monkey this morning. I initiated it, and quite frankly, I can't stop thinking about it."
Vieira's transition to Today "seamless," according to producer
by Joel Keller, posted Dec 4th 2006 8:04PM
Meredith Vieira has been on the Today show for almost three months now. And, I don't know what you folks think, but to me it looks like the show has barely skipped a beat. We all knew that Vieira was a pro with an easygoing, self-effacing manner and a good ability to deal with hard news as well as soft subjects. But it seems like, since she replaced Katie Couric, the show has been clicking along without much disruption.Jim Bell, the show's executive producer, feels the same way, as he told David Bauder of the AP. "It's been too smooth. It's been too good. As great a story as it has been for us, it's just been seamless and that may be why it hasn't drawn as much attention."
