by Spinner Editors, posted Nov 24th 2011 2:00PM
From Spinner: We love a good crossover, especially when our favorite TV stars pick up a microphone and belt out some tunes.

The good folks over at Spinner have compiled a bunch of videos of TV celebs from Joey Lawrence to Zooey Deschanel as they showcase their vocal chops. Though a number of singers have moved from music to television, this list features stars who made it big on the small screen before picking up a microphone, to varying degrees of success.

'Torchwood' Returns With Immortality for Everyone Except Captain Jack (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 11th 2011 1:13AM
'Torchwood: Miracle Day' - 'The New World'After a two-year hiatus, another global incident means it's time to reassemble 'Torchwood' (Fri., 10PM ET on Starz) to figure out what's going on. This time, it looks like the gang is being forcibly relocated to the United States by a dead man.

But then again, that's the problem. 'Miracle Day' is the subtitle of this series of 'Torchwood.' Where 'Children of Earth' had every child on the planet impacted, this one affects every living person. And every living person is every person on the planet ... no matter what.

No one is dying, even the people who should be dying, including our friend who surrounds Gwen, Jack and Rhys at the close of this premiere. There's some strange connection to Torchwood and this global crisis.

EXCLUSIVE: 'Torchwood' Creator Russell T Davies on Captain Jack's Dangerous Secret and Much More

by Maureen Ryan, posted Jun 6th 2011 2:45PM
Some writers tinker around the edges with their shows, but Russell T Davies, the creator of 'Torchwood,' is not one to play it safe. For the acclaimed 'Torchwood: Children of Earth,' which aired in 2009, Davies redesigned the sci-fi thriller as a short-run miniseries to make it more accessible to newcomers. It worked: The propulsive 'Children of Earth' was a hit for the BBC worldwide.

This season, the drama will change networks in the U.S. -- it debuts on Starz July 8 -- and creatively speaking, Davies is not letting 'Torchwood' rest on its laurels. In the interview below, Davies speaks in depth about the changes he'll unveil in 'Torchwood: Miracle Day,' which stars John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Mekhi Phifer, Lauren Ambrose and Bill Pullman.

There's a doozy of a surprise involving Captain Jack Harkness, but don't worry, I've put that very spoilery stuff at the end of the interview, in case you don't want to see it. If you've never seen 'Torchwood' but want to know more about the show, or if you're a fan of past seasons, it's safe to read on.

Exclusive First Look: Captain Jack's 'Torchwood: Miracle Day' Makeover

by Maureen Ryan, posted May 25th 2011 11:00AM
When the new season of 'Torchwood' arrives on Starz July 8, Captain Jack Harkness will be sporting a new look.

Not only was most of the sci-fi show's new season filmed in the United States rather than the U.K., other aspects of the drama got a makeover as well.

Creator Russell T Davies commissioned the show's costume designer, Shawna Trpcic (a veteran of 'Dollhouse,' 'Firefly' and 'Angel') to make a new version of Jack's iconic coat. We've exclusively got the first photo of Jack in the new season of 'Torchwood,' wearing his new and improved greatcoat.

Mekhi Phifer to Star in 'Doctor Who' Spinoff, 'Torchwood: The New World'

by Catherine Lawson, posted Dec 14th 2010 7:45AM
Mekhi PhiferAfter a tumultuous year of rumors about remakes and reboots, cancelations and crazy casting ideas, it seems as though things are finally coming together for Starz's 'Doctor Who' spinoff, 'Torchwood.'

First, it got a new name. To differentiate it from the first three, BBC-produced, seasons, Season 4 -- which is a joint production between Starz and the BBC -- will henceforth be known as 'Torchwood: The New World.'

Now we hear that 'ER' alum Mekhi Phifer has signed on to star as C.I.A. agent Rex Matheson. According to deadline.com, Matheson is "a fast-tracked high-flyer with a lethal sense of humor who starts to feel his mortality when his life is put in danger." So, a possible replacement for previous 'Torchwood' fan favorite, mild-mannered Welsh police officer PC Andy Davidson, then?

'Desperate Housewives' - 'A Little Night Music' Recap

Desperate Housewives
(S06E21) "I really need to surprise my audience." - Patrick

'Desperate Housewives' writers should have followed the dialog they wrote for Patrick and try to surprise us because 'A little Night Music' was anything but surprising. I expected much better this week since this is, after all, one of the last three episodes of the season.

Even if the episode was a let down, it did push the storylines a bit further and reminded us that you can't run from your past and lies all your life as they will catch you sooner or later.

Short-Lived Shows: 'Central Park West'

by Bob Sassone, posted Apr 28th 2010 7:20PM
Central Park West
I'll admit it, I like soap operas. I don't watch a lot of them, unless you count 'Lost' as a soap opera. It has a continuing storyline over many years with many characters, it just happens to include time travel and monsters.

Wait...daytime soaps have had those too.... But I did watch 'Guiding Light' for 30 years and 'Knots Landing' for whatever number of years that show was on -- it was better than 'Dallas' -- and now I've found myself hooked on 'The Young & The Restless' because one day I was too lazy to reach for the remote control after my local noon news was over. That's how addiction happens sometimes.

There was another soap I liked too, back in the 1995. It was called 'Central Park West,' and considering the ratings the show got, I think I'm one of the very few people in the country who can say I watched it and liked it.

U.S. 'Torchwood' Not a Threat -- For Now

by Harley W. Lond, posted Apr 21st 2010 9:36PM
'Torchwood' fans leery of seeing their fav series Americanized can rest easy -- for now.

Fox has given up on developing a U.S. version of the UK cult hit series about a criminal investigation group that battles hostile extraterrestrial threats, according to a report in The Hollywood Reporter.

"BBC Worldwide Productions and the Fox Broadcasting Company have mutually agreed not to progress together with a 13-episode serialized 'Torchwood' format," the BBC Worldwide said in a statement.

'Desperate Housewives' - 'We All Deserve to Die' Recap

by Isabelle Carreau, posted Apr 18th 2010 11:11PM
Desperate Housewives(S06E19) "Sometimes ... we let it in." - Mary Alice about "Evil"

After months without mentioning the strangler storyline, 'Desperate Housewives' finally let "Evil" back in and treated us not only with hints and, sadly, a new killing, but also with the identity of the culprit!!!

We first saw the person in the second episode of the season. My immediate instinct was that the strangled was a young man with whom Julie may have had a complicated "thing" with and that I didn't think it was Julie's ex (played by Steven Weber). In comments TV Squad readers left to my review of that episode, most fingers were pointed at Danny, McCluskey, Ana, Angie, Roy, and Katherine. Of course, as more episodes aired, people were added to the list while others were removed. Did you guess right? The answer coming up!

'Desperate Housewives' - 'My Two Young Men' Recap

Desperate Housewives(S06E18) "You should never trust family photos. They are designed to be deceiving." - Mary Alice when describing the Van De Kamp's photos

Last week's episode set a lot of storylines in motion: Preston and Irina's upcoming wedding, Sam becoming a part of Bree's life, Katherine and Robin potentially becoming a couple, and Patrick eventually finding the Bolens. This week, these four storylines continued to be developed and questions were raised as we fast approach the final episodes of this season of 'Desperate Housewives.'

Before I comment on these four storylines and the fact that Preston still has the worst fake mustache in TV history, I must warn you that the next new episode will air on April 18. That means we will have to wait close to a month before getting new dish on our favorite Wisteria Lane residents!

Who's Coming and Going on 'Desperate Housewives'?

by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 6th 2010 9:55AM
desperate_housewives_cast_white_setMarc Cherry, the creator of 'Desperate Housewives,' would probably appreciate this reference. In the 1932 Oscar-winning movie 'Grand Hotel' -- which became a Tony-winning musical on Broadway -- one character, Dr. Otternschlag, who lives at the hotel and observes the action, comments wryly, "People come and go. Nothing ever happens." Of course, a zillion things happen; he's just unaware from his perch in the lobby.

Wisteria Lane is like that. From some neighbor's point of view, nothing happens. However, as viewers, we know better! And as for the people come and go, well, that's abundantly clear with the news this week.

Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello had two major casting items about the ABC drama. Emmy-winner Drea de Matteo is leaving 'Desperate Housewives' and Dana Delany might be out, too.

Drea de Matteo to Leave 'Desperate Housewives'

by Jane Murphy, posted Mar 4th 2010 2:15PM
Drea de MatteoDrea de Matteo will forever be remembered for her shocking exit from 'The Sopranos' in 2004, when Adriana was rubbed out by Silvio.

Now comes word that Marc Cherry will try to top it, as it's being reported that de Matteo's current stint on 'Desperate Housewives' will end in May.

In an exclusive interview with the Ausiello Files, Cherry promises an "explosive finale" and said that, despite rumors, de Matteo only planned on doing one season of the show. "She has a baby and is eager to get back to her life in New York," he said.

Captain Jack coming to Wisteria Lane

by Allison Waldman, posted Jan 30th 2010 1:00PM
john_barrowman_torchwood_headshotRemember way back in July 2009? Of course you don't, but thank goodness for search engines. You see, on July 31st of last year, Bob wrote about a Torchwood character going to Wisteria Lane. Now, it's happening. John Barrowman will be appearing on Desperate Housewives. Captain Jack Harkness will be playing a villain, stirring up trouble for the ladies of the neighborhood.

Barrowman is expected to leave England in March to come to Los Angeles to begin filming. He'll appear on screen in April, and he's there for a mini-arc, at least five episodes. And he will be playing a malevolent man, i.e. a villain.

Ausiello reports that he's going to be involved with Angie's story. How will he impact on the Bolens, who are already brimming with angst and drama? Doesn't sound like it will be a positive impact.
