Judd Apatow Discusses How Awesome He Is on 'Bill Maher' (VIDEO)

Judd Apatow Discusses How Awesome He Is on 'Bill Maher'Well, to be fair, the title of this column is slightly inaccurate. It's actually host Bill Maher who brings up the topic of the potential awesomeness of director Judd Apatow -- creator of such films as 'The 40-Year-Old Virgin' and 'Knocked Up.'

As it turns out, Bill and Judd are good friends. And on 'Real Time With Bill Maher' (Fri., 10PM ET on HBO), Bill does his friend the honor of comparing him to famed director John Hughes. We're a little uncomfortable with anyone being compared to the god among men who made 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off.' But Apatow's movies are pretty consistently funny, so we'll let it pass.

Psych: Murder? ...Anyone? ...Anyone? ...Bueller?

by Allison Waldman, posted Jul 26th 2008 10:02AM
Bueller Psych(S03E02) From the title, it was clear tonight's show was going to relate to Ferris Bueller's Day Off. In fact, in true Shawn and Gus fashion, the entire John Hughes' oeuvre was mined for comic gold, as Gus was hosting the 13th high school reunion -- that's right. Not 10, but 13 years. Ironically, in 1995 there was no John Hughes movie. Never mind, the references were more '80s than '90s anyway, including Milo and Otis, Karla DeVito, and all those Hughes movies.

Overall, there was something lacking tonight. The setting came first, Gus and Shawn's class reunion, then the case. It was like Murder She Wrote, where Jessica Fletcher just happens to stumble onto a murder wherever she is.

It seemed an awkward arrangement. The show is better when Shawn and Gus horn in on a Santa Barbara PD case.

A Dead Zone movie is possible

by Kristin Sample, posted Jun 21st 2008 11:19AM
Anthony Michael HallLooks like a Dead Zone movie is possible. Anthony Michael Hall, who starred in the USA network sci-fi show, told SCI-FI wire that he'd be interested in doing a Dead Zone movie. Hall, who played psychic Johnny Smith for the show's six-season run, reminds everyone that he's not optimistic a Dead Zone movie will be made. "I don't think we had the size of a cult following that, let's say, The X-Files did. You look at Sex and the City or The X-Files, these movies were done long after the shows pumped out their last episodes," says the actor. Also, The Dead Zone having a previous incarnation as a feature film might preclude any new attempts. (In the film, which was released in 1983, Christopher Walken starred as Johnny Smith.)

Whatever the case may be with the possible movie, Anthony Michael Hall remains grateful about the opportunity to star in The Dead Zone. "I would certainly be open to the potential for [a reunion feature]. I would never turn my back on what [the show's late producer] Michael Piller did for me. He gave me this incredible opportunity. When I look back at [my] career, I view him and John Hughes as almost guardian angels of my career," Hall says.
